Thanks for taking the time to post the video. I have 4 inch Shark Roads (HD Electra Std). Been thinking about taking the baffles out. I can’t believe the folks who criticize the video bc you didn’t show this or that. Hey, he took the time to make a good video! Don’t be critical. Find the good and praise it - Alex Haley.
I have a set of shark road slip ons with baffles (pretty much the same as you have). I didn’t find them much louder. Just deeper sound. Yours are noticeably louder. You don’t have a catalytic converter?
I just recived my 4.5 units and even before i install them im going to pack them first and do some touch ups...how has your pipes and packing held up over time? Thxs
Great video. But I am not sure why you took off stock for louder pipes but then make them quiet like the originals? I did just wait a couple years to take my stock off to put these mufflers on 1st day I was followed by a cop but not stopped. So I am concerned for future travels.
Packing mine today.. hope it gets rid of some Of the ringing. Mine is a Vance&Hines complete system that was on the Electra Glide when I got her, packing was shot, I’m hoping this will calm things down for my ears.
Are the baffles two and a half inch baffles? I'm sure that at steady speeds of 80-95 mph the Shark Road mufflers with packing on both baffles are VERY deep and loud?
Hi - Could you answer a few questions? What were the before vs after decibel levels? What was the name of the packing material you used; where was it bought? Typically, how long will the packing material last before needing replaced? Your answers will help me decide on whether I should apply similar baffle packing. Tks.
Hey John, are the both sides different on the ceramic or are they the same where it doesn’t matter which side is on the baffle vs which side is facing up?
Hi! This type of buffle should be wrapped with fine stainless steel mesh first of fiberglass cloth. It should prevent blowing out. Короче, такой тип набивки вылетает в трубу, потому что очень мелкие волокна. Нужно обмотать мелкой сеткой из нержавейки, а потом уже керамическим одеялом.
If u actually pack them the right way and wrap as much as u can get it there reinforce it with muffler wrap then wrap again with more fiberglass tape it down tight with a roll of masking tape each pipe till its tight then slide em in it will actually give them a much deeper mellow tone instead of that clangy cheap ebay pipe sound u have

they are tight, just grab with a vice grip and wiggle, or use the slide hammer setup I show in the video.. next time I will try to video the actual process, but it wasnt too bad.
@@JohnVHLife Sorry but I can't see how packing the material tightly is going to help. the sound waves need to be absorbed so loosely packing the baffle should give a better result.
This was a horrible wrap job the proper way is to fully wrap it tight as possible wrap with some exhaust wrap then masking tape the whole wrap completely then just slide it in much easier and will last much longer

I used wood stove gasket rope (a.k.a "Stove Rope") to wrap my Vance & Hines baffles. It, too, made a great sound.
Did you pack it loose or tight and what did you use to secure it to the baffle?
this is exactly what i wanna do, like the slip on, but way too loud, my ears ring horribly. thanks for the awesome vid!!!
Awesome. Detail the steps and how to do the job. Great video!!! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you!
@@JohnVHLife That's my honor.

I don’t think it’s possible to make them as quiet as the stock ones. I just don’t want my ears ringing after riding it is all.
Who said they are quiet like the originals?

Of the ringing. Mine is a Vance&Hines complete system that was on the Electra Glide when I got her, packing was shot, I’m hoping this will calm things down for my ears.
Nice, it definitely takes some of the drone and bark out of them.
What would you say the decibel difference between the three. I purchased Shark Roads, and they are way too loud for the neighborhood.
Oh man, not sure, but stock is exhaust was super quiet, and unpacked they were too loud, packing them made them sound just right.
Thanks. Great video. Had no clue.
Are the baffles two and a half inch baffles? I'm sure that at steady speeds of 80-95 mph the Shark Road mufflers with packing on both baffles are VERY deep and loud?
I didn’t measure them sorry

Sorry, Im not sure, but the difference was very very noticable.
Hey John, are the both sides different on the ceramic or are they the same where it doesn’t matter which side is on the baffle vs which side is facing up?
Hmm, trying to remember, I dont remember a difference, but maybe some other brands are?
I tried the dna, but was disappointed in chrome bubbling and mismatched screws in endcap, tried nh from cobra and gonna try repacking to lower tone!
The DNA slip on's baffles are cheaply made , I just had to re-pack mine yesterday .. crap isn't even a baffle , they're more of a screen 😡
I packed my baffles for my scout and 300 miles later they were blown out. I did it again and same thing? Any solutions?

good video. where is the country of manufacture? thanks.
Im sure china or somewhere, is my guess.
communist china
Where did you find the packing?
Link in the description doesn’t work?
Where did you get your pin stripes?
The bike had that an a mural on it when I bought it, Im guessing someone near seattle did it.

The bike sounds great, I don’t get any “EBay” vibes whatsoever
of course the removal of the baffle wasn't shown
Yes it is, did you watch it?
@@JohnVHLife how did u get the baffle loose is what should have been shown to your viewers not just removing the baffle. That’s the easy part

What change? The baffles are designed wrong, and the packing too tight.
Those Mufflers rust really bad on the inside,,,try letting it run for a few minutes before you pull it apart
didnt notice any difference
It’s a substantial difference in person
@@JohnVHLife Sorry but I can't see how packing the material tightly is going to help. the sound waves need to be absorbed so loosely packing the baffle should give a better result.
If that was true. Then mufflers should get quieter. Not louder as they age? The difference was huge in person.
@@JohnVHLife I just repacked my pipe as you did, waiting for clamps and coupling to install it. tks
I was hoping for a how-to but you didn’t show anything. Change the title to “nothing to see here”.
Great idea!
Very loud, and not in a good way in my opinion. I don't like annoying harley riders. I have 3, but they aren't annoying like some people.
Not loud after packing, I ride it without earplugs, it sounds much better.
Masking tape?! Seriously?!
Haha, yes! Worked great!
