Does the MSI GE76 Raider 12UGS Mini-Display Port output 4K at 144mhz onto an external monitor, and also if GSYNC works by using the Mini-Display Port. I have looked everywhere but cannot find a definite answer. Thank you.

Would you recommend this laptop with the i9 12-900H & RTX 3060 and the 144hz display? It's about half the price of the model shown here with the faster video card and higher end display. Could also go with the I7 12-700H processor for a couple hundred less. I'm not a gamer but will likely not buy a laptop again for 5-10 years so don't mind shelling out for the more expensive one if having the faster processor will be better long term.

Don't buy MSI products. You're left all alone when you get a defective product with issues. The company don't stand by their products. I'm stuck with a MSI GE76 12UHS top of the line model I bought two months ago from MSI India. Thermal throttles to a 100C and beyond under load and cuts down on performance. The intense battery drain caused a battery wear that is at 6 percent and it is irreversible. MSI India won't do RMA. MSI Taiwan doesn't respond to me. What a great way to bag $5660USD from customers by cheating and selling a defective laptop. I'm left abandoned by MSI and proceeding with legal options.
yea it kinda depend where you buying the guy above bought it in India and India produt is kinda well to known to have not of a good quality control at least my friend in mumbai said same thing
Always been impressed with the performance of the Raider series since they always have high power limits. Only issue I don't like is how they have a square power connectorr now versus normal barrel shaped ones. Lenovo uses square connectors and I've read threads online where a lot of people who owned the Y540/Y740 had their jacks loose/needed to be resoldered pretty ealry in the laptop's life. No way to test that as a reviewerr obviously, but something that I'd keep an eye on if I was buying it. Also, MSI laptops always seem to stay expensive and rarely go on sale here in the US compared to Dell, Alienware, Lenovo, HP, etc.

I have the quite a lot bad experience with (including 90-degree) barrel connectors where they would get pretty 'loose' and cause continuous connected/disconnect loops (and thus killing the battery) on several brands (HP, Lenovo, Sager). And my GFs Lenovo laptop is on her 3rd power-brick, but the square connector is still rock-solid. Also; the MSI Raider series is already on sale in the EU, with huge discounts on exact this QHD, i7, 3070Ti model; currently for 2100 euro; amazing value for money. Seems the game has really changed compared to last year, as they're hundreds and hundreds of euro's cheaper than the competition currently.
Has anyone been able to play a blu ray disc on this laptop? I have an external asus blu ray drive. I tried a bunch of free software players when i first got this and get the unable to play hdcp check your graphics card error code 0107. I just now spent 60 dollars on the latest cyberlink ultra player with same results. I can play dvds no problem. Others are playing blu rsys with no problem on other laptops that are not msi. Im looking to see if anyone with an msi raider is able to play blu rays not 4k just plain old blu rays. I dont like ripping and storing movies on my laptop's 2 hard drive as the drives get filled up and corupted. I have over 5000 blu rays. I just want to be able to put a blu ray in the asus external and play it on the laptop.
I personally tried out the MSI GE models in the store, now I don't know if they made significant changes with this 2022 version(probably not), but the keyboard and the palm rest areas felt like really cheap plastic. I felt the Alienware and Lenovo laptops had a very solid build, but the MSI felt like a cheap toy in build comparison.
interesting I am stuck between raider, legion 7 and gigabyte aero for content creation. what did you think about the screen? everyone seems to be amazed with this panel, but it is quite dim from what I understand, just around 300 nits... would you go with legion?
@@batmanonholiday4477 I have the legion 7 and the display is really nice that 500 nits really come in handy in daytime. 300 nits is way too dim when there is sunlight coming into the house. Granted if you want 240 hz then you go with the raider. But the Legion 7 provide the best bang per buck.
@@LordAshura yess, been thinking the same...the brightness is a big bonus for the legion and its matte screen...what is your use case, any heavy lifting jobs? the thing is raider has a better color range -- DCI P3 of around 100% vs Legion's 70% which is a bit of let down I feel... i don't know if this is noticeable much in everyday use... another thing, you can get raider ge77 17 inches with a matte 4k screen that is a bit brighter than ge 76, around 400 nits, and it costs the same as the fully spected legion...
Yeah I am a big alienware fan and cover all their laptops but this is mighty tempting to replace my x17! I can’t believe dell won’t include a qhd option on their 17” laptops! I am going to do a comparison video between the two laptops soon
@@MashITTech In the States. This config is well over 3k USD. Compared to the Omen 17 (2022) @ 1899 at the time of this comment [micro center]. The Omen has opt/mech switches, on top of per-key RGB, 32 GB of DDR5; 2 TB Gen 4 SSD; and the rest pretty much comparable to the Raider covered here. As usual, the Omen 17's aren't getting much review coverage. MSI builds good machines but not that much better in relation to the price delta.

What I don't like about MSI is the build quality. As a previous MSI owner I can say that I have broken two hinges and had no warranty. The hinges are too tight and are metal bolted to plastic that easily breaks. I prefer Alienware or The Razer blade due to this reason. MSI just feels cheap.
I've been against inter chips, since there thermal performance is much words than AMD chips. Some times it doesn't matter how good the chip is, if you have to pause every 2 hours to cool it down. As laptop, the first thing first shall be the thermal performance, it's the only constrain.

383 nits for the qhd screen is more than enough brightness for me using it 100 percent indoors. From just watching justin's review it looks like this is the only laptop that fully uses the i9 processor and makes it a full 10 percent faster than our i7 versions and having the 3080ti i already have the mamoth power brick that the i9 uses. I would recommend to people getting the i9 with 3080ti. Other laptops couldnt power it making it a waste of money but this one is the first to fully utilize it. The speakers sound great to me but i am only concerned with sharp crisp voices and am not a fan at all of very loud bass. I have 2 7.2 surround speakers in my house and have disconnected the sub wolfer on both of them as i prefer to just listen to the speakers for gaming and movies as i am just not into bass all that much. So playing games with just the laptop speakers on this laptop is very good sounding to me.

Question on your x17 r2. For power plans, do you have ultimate performance mode active? I've tried to get it to appear but I can only get balanced and high performance modes to do so.
It's in windows power plan. I tried seeing if it would show up plugged in, unplugged, and pushing the FN and F1 key for performance mode, but alas nothing!
What is your opinion about this models thermal results. Lots of people are complaining about 12700h getting too hot, and thermal throttle even undur mediun workload.
These 12th fens do run really hot and laptops really struggle to cool them. The ge76 does well and maintains 70-80w under full load so although that does not let it max out the boost it is well above the base frequency so not actually throttling

@@MashITTech agree but a 4k screen can be put in a qhd resolution at 120 hertz and since i have a lot of 4k movies..i am not sure i need more then 120 hertz.. i am already ok with my 60 hertz 4k from last year

I have the 12900hk variant. You're gonna love it. I recommend doing a clean install as soon as you get it. My GE76 had latency issues with the manufacturer Windows 11 install. It's a great machine - but it will run hot!

The 7i is a solid machine but I also prefer 17” especially for gaming. I just got the 2022 7i in with i9 12900hx and the performance is just incredible

Hiya Dave got the.Raidwe this morning,wow it's something else,it's not as easy to use as the Legion 7i but it's really powerful although I couldn't replicate your Cinebench or Geekbench scores mine were slightly lower I thought I could time with XTU bit the 12700h is locked?? I went thru the advanced bios but I couldn't see enable XTU anymore like last year's videos , did you tweak it in anyway to get 17+ in Cinebench or is it a variable thing ,or maybe a bit warm in my flat today ?🤣thanks again ..Jon, the Raider is awesome though

In the uk this cost me £2299, my x17 r2 4K with same cpu and gpu but less ram was also £2300 so very similar, I will be comparing them soon

What is the measured brightness of this screen?
Mine came in at 380nits but panels can vary a few nits either way
great revieuw as always.. Not sure it's a machine for me.. Still prefere the 4k 120 hertz screen.
yeah that's a tough call. I will be comparing it agains the 4k X17r2 later this week and I am still in two minds especially as the 4k scales so well
@@MashITTech agree but a 4k screen can be put in a qhd resolution at 120 hertz and since i have a lot of 4k movies..i am not sure i need more then 120 hertz.. i am already ok with my 60 hertz 4k from last year
I ordered one and it’s suppose for arrive on the 4th of July after my Alienware X17 failed me!!! I hope it serves me well cos my high hopes for gaming machines has dwindled given the esteem I gave to the AW….. good review Dav. 👍🏽👍🏽 mine is with the 3080ti, 4k, i7.

I have the 12900hk variant. You're gonna love it. I recommend doing a clean install as soon as you get it. My GE76 had latency issues with the manufacturer Windows 11 install. It's a great machine - but it will run hot!

Not really. Obviously the ge77 has slightly better cooling being larger but otherwise the ge66 is a solid machine too

Hi there just watched this again as I've just bought that exact model from Scan UK for £2199 that was a sale price I can't wait , have last year's Lenovo 7i gen 6 with a 3060 which is excellent,but this should be a.step up , and I'll have to sell that now ,how does this MSI compare to your favourite Alienware R17 ? The 7i is a solid machine but I also prefer 17” especially for gaming. I just got the 2022 7i in with i9 12900hx and the performance is just incredible

Hiya Dave got the.Raidwe this morning,wow it's something else,it's not as easy to use as the Legion 7i but it's really powerful although I couldn't replicate your Cinebench or Geekbench scores mine were slightly lower I thought I could time with XTU bit the 12700h is locked?? I went thru the advanced bios but I couldn't see enable XTU anymore like last year's videos , did you tweak it in anyway to get 17+ in Cinebench or is it a variable thing ,or maybe a bit warm in my flat today ?🤣thanks again ..Jon, the Raider is awesome though

Yes I always benchmark laptops in their highest profile. I didn’t enable the cooler boost max fans though

🤣 I have actually used the headphone cable to tie Gary to his computer chair so he is forced to do most of the editing 😁 I do a few of the videos but I must admit I spend more time writing scripts and recording these days, its surprising how long it all takes!
