As someone who worked in a small town video store in the 90’s, yay. That store is still open today renting movies, both VHS and DVD. He has the movies he got in 1983 still for rent.

The sounds of the tape player, the distorted images on screen as the tape rewound, watching back F1 races and episodes of Star Trek with my dad. Wonderful stuff.

Great movie so thanks again
This was so cozy and reminded me of our local video store growing up. It was a tiny little hole in the wall next to the supermarket where we shopped. It was such a treat to rent a VHS tape or an NES game. The trick was to rent it on Friday afternoon, so it wasn't due till Monday morning.
this takes me back to when i was in elementary school and my mom rented princess mononoke thinking it would be like kiki's delivery service, which was the previous movie we had rented. she put it on and left the room. it went about as well as you're probably imagining it did
I worked in a video store in '04. I was 17 and it was my first job. it was right when the store was switching from VHS to DVD, and most of the VHS tapes had been sold or donated. the ones that no one wanted, or we couldn't donate, I got tasked with junking. I vividly remember taking my time to throw them away on a warm September evening, smoking a cigarette and saying goodbye to what felt like a piece of my childhood. such bittersweet memories, and this brings back a lot of them.
Amy I love the character's subtle errors when they're describing the movies-it's so indicative of the era, back when people weren't as obsessed with every tiny detail ❤

Anyone remember the movie Small Soldiers? The one wherre the action figures came to life and attacked a house. That terrified me as a kid. Anyway i would like to rent that please.

But that movie is very easily forgettable and it’s not a lot of people’s favorites (including mine) so it’s totally understandable that it got mixed up with the third one lol
I remember living in a remote town without internet or cable in the early 2000s. My parents would take us to the rental store, grab snacks and we would have a "double feature" night every Saturday. In 2005, my Dad took me to my first theatrical release in a town a few hours from home. Cool stuff, reliving the VHS (and DVD) era.
