    Well done Spencer! I’ve never been a fan of showing up to race only when I’m in the best shape ever to run a best time . . . “ Failure is the highway to success!” If the marathon master can have an off day at Boston and be okay with it then you are in great company because he’ll be back and you will too! The biggest difference I see is your attitude and perspective - so proud of you!

      Yes but also no. I am an amateur woman and go to races yes for improve myself but also to enjoy them, no one pays me to race. I run track but when i feel i can't compete at a decent level for my self i don't show up. It usually when my period start so knowing it i don't plan racing around that time.
      Don't bother bad weather, it is affect everyone in the race so..

    So awesome to have the Special cam to show you running the whole thing. It stinks when the person you’re interested in isn’t at the front and whoever is filming the event only gets the lead runner in frame. And you’re right, most epic performances are on the other side of a lot of 💩races and workouts. Be patient, do the work, results will come.

    It seems like you might have increased your threshold training which is lower intensity form of interval training but you didn't use this decrease in intensity to increase your volume. Renato Canova has some good ideas about building in progression into threshold based programs with techniques to lower threshold to get as close to race pace as possible i.e. the programming around threshold has to be built to express the principle of progressive overload in volume/duration/recovery/velocity of threshold. A simple substitution of threshold for v02 max training doesn't work. Threshold by itself is not a magic bullet. Basically it should enable greater volume. You need to be running about 130km a week as a miler.

    • @markeroon
      @markeroon Рік тому

      Good post. Also the milers that are having success with a lot of threshold work are still doing race pace weekly.

    I can relate. I did a 5k race yesterday when I wasn't in the mood. I decided not to race hard and do it as a training run, which was a good decision, but I hate my result and keep trying to guess what it would have been if I'd tried. I still felt sick from the level of exertion later that day and spent hours questioning everything about running afterwards. (Oh and traffic on the way home was terrible and it took way too long). Racing sucks and I can't wait to do it again.

    @markbateman9222 Рік тому

    Anyone who has trained and raced seriously for a prolonged period has completely c**p races. Inevitable. The key is to get over it and move on. If, as you say, you were ill when you raced no further explanation is necessary. You never know if you are slightly under the weather until the pressure comes on at the crucial stage of the race. You looked OK for 500m then things fell apart and the wheels came off,
    S**t happens. As soon as I stated running seriously (in the early 1970s!) the best advice I was given was "there's always another race". Don't get too emotionally carried away by really good or really bad races. Focus on the next race, work hard, move on, learn from the race but don't dwell on it too long..

    I'm a big fan of spence, I've been watching him since his running days back in Georgetown. I would say maybe move up to the 10k or even half marathon. I haven't been super consistent with his UA-cam channel for almost over a year, but I would say that would be a smart move to make. I feel like he would be much stronger at the longer distances. But hey what do I know about pro running.

    This might sound harsh but i think im on to something . I think i know why you suck at racing.
    Its not racing itself, its racing on the track and all that comes with it. From the moment you broke 4 in the mile you haven’t been the same. Ever since that race you have been scared to fail or disappoint your subscribers. And all you have been doing is failing as a result. I think you should move to the roads cause your last xc season in college was fantastic and every time you race the turkey trot in your hometown you crush it!
    Running fast on the track has become this all consuming fire that has been eating away at you for years and its simply not working.
    Obviously do what you want, but i think you should consider doing more road races cause your good at that. Also that might give you some more confidence to hit the track and do well later on.

    Change scenery--move away from Seattle. Just concentrate on the 800 for this year--trying to double major isn't working. Try increasing the low intensity volume stuff like Allie does with cross training to avoid injury--you really aren't doing enough low intenity volume to significantly upgrade your aerobic capcity vs what tou did at Gtwn and Beasts. Your 800 opener was good all things considered-build on that

    Granted, I know nothing and am not an expert in anything. But the first thought in my mind is - are you more interested in proving that you know more about racing than your father and that your "wisdom" and knowledge is greater than his? Or are you more interested in actually being competitive regardless of where you get your training advice from? It just seems as though you tend to disrespect and diminish your father and go out of your way to ignore and reject his advice.
