- Lyta Alexander was a Human telepath, assigned by the Psi Corps to Babylon 5 to serve as the station's licensed commercial telepath. She was later physically altered by the Vorlons.

Of all the b5 characters, I feel that Lyta got the rawest deal (Except maybe Talia Winters). Without her, Sheridan's great plan to end the shadow wars forever doesn't work, they don't get rid of the Vorlon in their midst, Michael Garibaldi can never prove his innocence or save Sheridan, not to mention they'd ALL be dead at least a half dozen times without her. And my girl can't even get some free quarters?! WTF!!? You should all be lining up to give her whatever she needs after all she's done for y'all, at least on a personal level. Ok, freeing all the telepaths is a bit of a tall order, but paying for her quarters and food, probably clothes too, should go without even asking IMHO. I know this is more realistic but IDC. They did my girl dirty.
I agree 100%! That part never made too much sense to me. That she still had to make a living on top of saving the Galaxy LOL😎👍

I've always felt sorry for Lyta. She got a such raw deal from all sides.
I feel that Lyta got the short shift,especially all she did and risked for Babylon 5. She deserved better.

Felt too plot driven, I mean considering how close the rest of main characters were in dealing with each other and their other comrades. Never made sense that they kept ignoring Lyta unless they needed something and ending up driving her into a corner.
@@mr.s2005 Well, don't forget how they all felt about Telepaths in-general. They felt they could never fully trust her, especially after she became more independent and involved with Byron's group.
@@jedironin380 Yeah well the telepaths stopped the Shadows. These people were Bigots and Sheridan is portrayed as some big hero. What if all the teeps went on strike & demanded rights!!!

Not a mention of Lyta at the final meeting on Mimbar. They mention Lennier and Marcus but not Lyta; without whom they'd have been defeated many times.
For all those stuck on the idea that advanced aliens must of necessity be benevolent, consider what the Vorlons did to Lyta Alexander.

Imagine, being one of the most powerful telepaths in the galaxy at this point, if not the most powerful. You beat the shadows with Sheridan and Delenn, you're the key to the whole thing! Without your telepathic powers it can't happen! You saved the galaxy and the crew several times. And in the end, you gotta submit to the Corps. you hate, agree to give your body up after you're dead all so you can earn a living. And you still get evicted by the likes of Zach Allen, *TWICE.* Glad she at least gets everything she wanted in the end.

Even from the beginning I preferred Lyta's character to Talia's character. Lyta had a wry edge to her that I liked, and Talia always just seemed to be meh...

This video is quite thorough and the details are entertaining.
Lyta and the human telepaths was probably the strangest story because it didn’t fit. She’s central to the plot but not featured as a main character or on promotional material.
Why don’t the Minbari help them? Why doesn’t the B5 local government help? Why are telepaths treated like they are on earth? Why is the PsiCorp so rich but other Telepaths have to beg for scraps?! Why didn’t Sheridan fix the Telepath issue as soon as he was president!?
That is an awesome question. I believe Sheridan only had jurisdiction over the alliance. Earth government was still free to do their own policies. Not sure why the alliance couldn't have just given the telepaths and uninhabited world like they wanted. Maybe there weren't enough of them?😎👍
@@OmegaOrdained To inhabit a world, even a perfect biological match of a world would require an astronomical amount of transportation, food, water, medical supplies, and funds. No to even begin considering terraforming a planet for them. Plus they would have required protection from raiders, worlds seeking revenge, and even member worlds of the alliance themselves who would have wanted to control them. To do all this while still a fledgling nation state in it's infancy would have been completely unfeasible.

TOTALLY. The hypocrisy is staggering. Why didn't the more 'advanced' worlds say "look Earth, we're not dealing with you when you mistreat your Minority so badly."
@@Dang_Near_Fed_Up Supposedly there are abandoned colonies & suchlike, and that was what Byron wanted. As far as defending this telepath colony from Normals...I believe there was a teep with telekinetic powers, Jason Ironheart, so powerful he transformed into a God. Maybe he could zap raiders with his mind?

The treatment of Alexander after the war of the Old Ones is one of the big flaws in B5
She basically helped them win. And then she was treated as a vagrant.

the psycops kidnapped him and programmed him to be a sleeper to infiltrate edgar industries to find their weapon against the telepaths. While they were programming him, bester slipped in some additional programming that made it impossible for him to hurt bester. He called it "pulling an Asamov", referring to the three laws of robotics, the first of which is that a robot may not kill a person.

Yes she did, and he went to go hunt down Alfred bester. But he didn't kill him, threw him in jail the rest of his life.

What I gather from the novels, which I haven't read. Is the Psy core was abolished and bester went into hiding. Garibaldi may had been a bounty hunter. I'm not 100% on that
