Berkely Mice Tail is my GOAT lure for rainbow trout fishing in my local creek in Ketchikan, Alaska! I've even caught pink salmon on it. Fish can't resist them.
I use this method for stocked lake fishing with my kids..the pink and white power bait ones. I pinch a split shot about a foot up from the hook and a bobber about 1.5 feet above that. Great for kids' slow reaction time because the trout literally swallow this bait and hook themselves up.
I never knew those actually worked . I've been fishing quite a while in Arizona . I used mainly spinners/ Flys with bobbers , but never really any luck except for woods canyon lake. That place is insane for trout . Cool vid , learned quite a bit from these cool baits .
Yea that place is off the chain! These work really well on certain days. Trout are picky and this is something they don’t see often. Thank you for watching!
Hey new to fishing , I jsut had a question why was the yellow string for like why did you tie it to the pillar bcz u couldn’t get it out of his mouth ? What does it do?
Maybe it’s time to revisit these. I have a lot of success with spinners and trout magnets, but never any luck with these guys. Mostly fish the Salt River.
All by state and body of water. If you’re just getting into fishing I suggest reading the local regulations so you stay out of trouble. There are some small things that are laws now a days haha.
Great video! I love mice tails, I usually fish them under a slip float with a 1/4 oz weight, then a 3 ft leader of 4-pound floro. I've found that any current or even the wind moving your bobber is enough action for the trout. I always try to use size 6 or 8 mosquito hooks, so that the mice tails can float and not be dragged down by the weight of the line and hook. I've also heard that 18" is the best leader length if fishing on the bottom because supposedly that's how high off the bottom the stockers are used to swimming wherever they are raised.
Heck yea man they’re underrated! Yes I was hoping for a breeze this morning but no luck lol. Yes hooks size is more important than people think. 18 sounds about right. Sometimes I’ll go higher but never less than that. Thanks for watching!
Stocked fish will eat anything. Even if you was to just throw a hook , into a school of them they would eat it. Doesn’t take away the fun of getting them. We have many places that is just a stocking areas. It’s taken kids or new people out to dish for the first time that makes it exciting. We have fish hatchery’s everywhere in southern Idaho.
If they eat anything why don’t people fish with bare hooks? I’ve seen days here they only eat live worms, live minnows, only power eggs, sometimes only powerbait. Sometimes just jogs, sometimes a certain color etc. trout are different everywhere, and sure there are times where it seems they eat everything, but that’s not linear across the board. Some days the fly fisherman destroy the bait fisherman and vice versa. Depends on so many factors you can’t even count em
@@TheFishinMagician20 as I said they will. In a school of hatchery fish , they will eat just a hook. I done it plenty of times. Here they use hatchery fish for stocking ponds, lakes and rivers. The ponds are the easiest to hook them. They are feed all at once, they get uses to being feed that way so when stocked in a pond, anything that hits the water ( a bare hook) it’s first come first one gets the hook. That only downside is they always swallow it. So if your not eating them, they will die.
@TheFishinMagician20 I hit the Salt the other day with the fly rod and got them on the squirmy worm, black wooly bugger and a size 18 or 20 hares ear. It was awesome
Hook does matter wheb you are bottom fishing with a mouse tail. The hook must be lite enough for the hook to float. I test mine at home in a cup of water. Additionally I don't know why people are still using split shot as a bobber stop. I use a Carolina Keeper on everything super easy adjustment.
Yea I have seen the comparisons. I use a pre packaged string bobber stop for a bobber stop. The splitshot is for weight for it to sink to the stop. The way I see it is if I don’t need to add anything extra to complicate things I don’t
Amazing video i have tried this before with amazing results but i still have yet to catch something on the salt soooooo..... you should go fishing with me and help me bro ive spent hours and days with no bites even 😭😭😭😭
Salt can be tricky haha. I don’t really have the time to take anyone out. But just remember to get there early. Get a good spot, sink bait and float bait and you’ll get em
Then why don’t people use splitshots for bait then?🤔 definitely times they are less picky, but after being pressured they sometimes only bite on color or bait
Wow, use to live in Kingman, but all I got was stripers Smalley's cats and bluegill, but I'm in los Angeles CA now so it's limit five.but It doesn't matter if you love fishing and being outdoors I don't think it matters much, keep fishing my friend 😁
Pro tip. Dont buy those. Buy the eggs and worms separately and you can make all the color combos you want without buying 50 million different packs. With just three different cor eggs and 3 different color worms you cna make 9 different color combos.
@TheFishinMagician20 also buying the eggs and worms separately lets you rig the worm up wacky rig. Completely unrelated im pretty sure the mice tail was was invented at the lake i use to fish 10 years ago (shit happend and the lake got closed as a private busness then re opened a couple years later as a regular city park lake) irvine lake in Orange Ca. This was a hot bait their before Berkley started making the mice tail. We called it a power mouse. Berkeley would have staff at the lake every weekend. One weekend i was told that Marlon Meade seen one of the rgulars using the rig and told Berkley about it. The next trout season, Berkeley introduced the mice tail
That’s how I fish them too. Carolina Rig off the bottom, never fails! Great video.
I’m a believer now! An awesome effective technique
Just got schooled by my buddy . He got 4 on mice tails , I got 2 on powerbait .

I bought 6 pound line and rat tails for some rainbow trout season hope it works
How did u know what depth to set the bobber stop
educated guess, i play around with it alot tho until i start getting bites. 1-2 feet is a good start
I usually fish these on a carolina rig at woods canyon. Slays
Heck yea 🔥
Trying this weekend 🤙🏼
Heck yea good luck
I have used different Berklee products, but I have not tried these yet. Maybe soon.
I just used this yesterday and caught to nice size trout on the river.

Awesome videos man! I’m new to fishing and want to go trout fishing. What would I need in order to fish this rig?
slip bobber, splitshots, mosquito hooks and the mice tails! good luck!
@@TheFishinMagician20 thank you so much!
What size hooks did you use for the worm tail? & what’s the weight/size of the slip shot?
splitshot just enough to get it out. maybe 1/32 oz. hook is size 6 mosquito hook I say it in the video

I like how the video ends right before the guy says, "Wait! Why'd you throw him back!?" as they inevitably do whenever I'm fishing lol.

I thought mice tail float, how do u make it sink without weight
I find it crazy the colors they will bite! Nice demonstration.
Thank you! Cheers!
You’re making me want to go to the canals. I tried during the pandemic and couldn’t get anything but I don’t think they were stocking
They don’t regularly stock the canals, fish just make it in through the salt river
We’re I live we use the on a Carolina rig and a 15 inch leader
Heck yea I bet it’s deadly
Wow CLOSE!!!!! nice fish
Super close! Hora
Where in Arizona is this pond
Stocked trout lakes and rivers in virginia only allows you to use 1 rod at a time.
Nice catches, bro. I have mousetails in my my arsenal but haven't used them yet. Will have to try soon. Another awesome video
Heck yea man try em out! Thank you bro
do you know how long they stocked prior to you fishing there?
About a week and a half
I like to wacky rig the hook on a Carolina setup
I heard that works just as well also!
Also try using a water bobber. Fill it and it will slowly sink with the mouse tail.
Sounds like that defeats the purpose of a bobber… I use bubble bobbers to be able to cast flys out on my spinning rod. But they float though still.
Well, i guess i will be buying some mouse tails. Good job
hahaha good luck!

small spiltshots usually does the job

Mouse tails catch better than most other baits for stockers
Agreed they are one of the top
looks like you could probably do them on a jig head and fish them like you could a jig and plastic?
You definitely can! I’ve done that before, such a versatile bait
Took me a minute to recognize the lake at McQueen park lmao. There are some fat goldfish in there.
Are you in Calofornia?

Nice
Hey, they slay salmon too!
Is that right?
I use them in the Santa Cruz harbor for salmon, they work great!

Wheres this at?
i believe its called mcqueen pond or something like that its in gilbert
Are these tails almost like gulp?
Nah they’re not nearly as marinated. 90% of them literally just smell like plastic. I think the little bit of scent that’s infused does something tho
this would be nice for ice fishing, I might give theses a try
Heck yea!
Great video!
Thanks!
yeah, stockers will eat splitshot, so whatever bait doesn't matter
Then why don’t people use splitshots for bait then?🤔 definitely times they are less picky, but after being pressured they sometimes only bite on color or bait
I wacky rig mine on the bottom if the head of the mice tail gets punctured they won’t continue to float
