To copy text on macOS, you can select the text you want to copy and then drag it to the desktop. This will create a text clipping that you can use whenever you want. To paste the text, simply drag the text clipping from the desktop to the window where you want to paste it. This way, you do not need a multiple clipboard manager. In fact, this feature is very old, it is more than 30 years old.

Thank you - both for your kind words and for mentioning the update! Should've mentioned that, it's really a much easier way (if there aren't windows all over your screen).
Wow man, I'm struggling with MacOS for 3 months, seeing my windows disappear every time, every day, I'm a windows user of decades, I definitely agree that MacOs is drag and drop oriented, I call it mouse-oriented, and for this human that has been 20 years keyboard oriented, it's painful... [I've now realized that I do alt-tab each few seconds] your video has been a very useful, objective tutorial, all windows users need to find something equal or better when doing Mac. I also appreciate that the example content you're using is very sober, and helps learning by avoiding unnecessary distractions. and your name is Mac!
To maximize a window on macOS, Windows and Linux, you simply double click into the top border of the window (make sure to click into an empty area of the thick border where there are no buttons, usually top center). This has been a standard for over 20 years across all 3 major operating systems and I find it weird that most people don't know about it. Edit: The finder app is the only exception because Apple built in a max-content width based on the content view. All other apps that allow for resizing go full size. Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Preview, Mail, Facetime, Messages, AppStore, Calendar, Terminal, VLC, Quicktime, Photos, Photo Booth and many many more. They all work.
He showed how to maximize the whole window, like on Windows (to fill the whole screen), not just to maximize to fit the contents (like Mac does). If you double tap top border, it resizes the window to fit the contents😮. For example on Finder all the filenames, sizes etc. are then fully visible, but it doesn't maximize it any further as the rest of your screen would get filled by empty space.
@@eclipticpath Incorrect. It's a common misconception that this doesn't work in macOS. Finder is the exception out of 1000s of apps. Almost all apps on macOS go full width/length when double clicking into the border. Finder is the only app that only goes max-content when double clicking. Apps that don't allow for resizing of either the height or width (Calculator and Settings) are the other exceptions, but then again, you wouldn't be able to resize them with the keyboard shortcut either. All other apps go full size. I tested Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Preview, Mail, Facetime, Messages, AppStore, Calendar, Terminal, VLC, Quicktime, Photos, Photo Booth and many many more. They all work.

This is a particularly good video of yours. I got my first Mac in the early 1990s (I'm that old), when its System 7 interface was miles ahead of any other O/S. After that, Apple's sky-high prices drove me to Windows, which started to become OK to use as from Win 95. I've recently returned to Mac, now that the Mac Mini is such good value. But what a shock I got. Somewhere in those intervening decades Apple fell behind on the basic everyday interface of managing windows and files. The Mac was once supposed to be intuitive. It wasn't, but it did have an elegant simplicity. Now it's drifted a long way from that, but, hey, Apple's given you the opportunity to make a really good UA-cam channel. Congratulations!
Another fantastic concise video Vince. Although having a deep knowledge of macOS, some of the modifier keys options were unknown to me. And I'm an Apple customer since before you were born. All said. 😆 One of the best UA-cam channels for Apple related themes.

If you are a developer you own any OS and desktop by just using the keyboard and are able to remember all the different keyboard shortcuts under any circumstances to pull of exactly the things you want (and if they don't, you know how to hack them into submission). That is how I experience my colleagues. Really, there is no OS or desktop system (the differentiation being there as Linux has so many different desktop systems) causing troubles for a developer. We build them. They are as messed up as we are. But seriously, the thing is, Linux desktops and Windows most often do the same, whereas macOS has different concepts when it comes to interaction with the desktop, apps and windows - e.g. macOS has been developed with trackpads and multi-finger gestures in mind, neither Windows nor any Linux desktop has - that's why the Magic Mouse for Apple desktops has a swipe surface instead of multiple buttons. Once you learned the concepts of Mission Control, the dock, app expose and stuff, you may find that you are breezing through multi-tasking even better than using Windows concepts. I have a six button mouse here I used with all my PCs, and on macOS, I attached all the windows and multi-tasking management functions to this mouse utilizing a combination of some third-party apps. One is free, always available (i.e. for any mouse), called Mac Mouse Fix, and it gets you very far. You can put a lot of functions on just a three-button mouse with that software. Show Mission Control, Show desktop, show app-expose, slide to next, previous space, all just with the middle button (click, hold, double-click, hold and slide left or right). It supports up to five buttons on a mouse. As you see, I am not so much into keyboard shortcuts. But still a developer as you. I never use multiple desktops on Windows or Linux - but I learned to appreciate them on macOS, they are so easily created and accessible, it makes life much easier. Swiping my way through macOS since then. And I haven't even touched the shortcut app yet which is rumored to do real wonders.

It's 2024 and Apple is slowly learning - a lot of those "quality of life" things got added to *MacOS 15*. But yeah, a Mac is so much different if you are used to Windows since 30 years. For me it's definitely a learning curve even after 4 years of iPhone & iPad - I have my new Mac Mini M4 since Monday. 😎✌️

Im using both, windows and macos. Windows in general is far superior to macos; like multitasking, GAMING, productivity. MacOS have better power management, has better sleep mode (or standby), but its not really faster, at least on what I do. If I open a closed app, like ms word or even native macos app, it takes like 3-5 seconds (macbook m1) where on my i5 gen 7 or 8 it takes max 2 seconds (sad to say that some native apps of windows like store takes up to 10 seconds sometimes). Windows is better than macOS which likes to make something simple hard to use, like learning a lot of illogical shortcuts and extra clicks.
I love these fast tips, thanks. I have one more thing that annoys me about Mac vs windows. Say I’m looking at a fullscreen browser and I want to bring up the calculator to do some simple math based on the content of the webpage. Well, what happens is it won’t start the calculator on top of the webpage, but instead jumps it to a new space or desktop and then it’s really annoying to work out how to get the two apps to coexist on the same screen. In Windows, the calculated would just pop up in front of the browser window. Is there a way to accomplish this on the Mac?
Hey! Thank you! That's why I really dislike the full-screen view of apps, and I never use it. I'd always simply maximize the window on the desktop, so either by double-clicking a corner of the window while holding down the Option key, or simply resizing it. Then everything will stay on your one desktop space.
I know what you mean, and I am not aware of a solution. The calc app is even not full-screen capable at all (which makes sense from a design point of view). And you can't drag it onto a full screen app in Mission Control, like you can do with other apps to make them share the full screen with the app that is already there. So I am pretty sure that what you want isn't possible in macOS. Like macvince said, if you do not use full-screen mode for apps, it won't be an issue at all. But I find full-screen mode for apps very useful (as you seem to do), it is so much easier to switch context and app by sliding through open full-screen windows than finding them in the mess that develops as more and more windows are opened on your desktop.
This is good to know, because as much as I like Windows' usability, I'm really starting to dislike Microsoft and am considering switching to Mac when they end Win 10 support.
Thank you! I use Pixelmator Pro :) Such a great app, really easy to learn if you use a Mac because the design language is basically the same. It's like a native Apple app.

Is it Safe to Upgrade to Sonoma in terms of performance and Battery life? Just got my m1 MacBook Air and I love how fast it is and how long the battery life is. Dont want to miss a Single percent of it. Can anyone Share their experience?
Hi macvince, im not able to do the command shift 5 thing to select it to go to my clipboard. Its not a option, do you know a fix without using any third party softwares? Or maybe i just did it wrong lol. Thanks.
nice video, but you forgot the most important, as in macos latest versions one cannot float any more a window or app and pin it there on top of others. Lets say I want calculator sitting on top of my spreadsheet...can't be done, it has to be on the side of another window... Oh and if you minimize or press the X button on a browser with multiple tabs, good luck getting them back.
I personally prefer the Mac handling of window management. I would say with hot corners set I can do my file management task MUCH faster than on my pc. Windows can snap windows, but you have to constantly move them out the way. with Exposé or now known as Mission Control (mouth full) you have so much flexibility & speed! Very good vid with a great presentation!

Command - Tab then up arrow to see windows / Command - Tab then Q to Quit / Command -Tab forward then ~ to reverse / Drag then Command - Tab to drag into another app
Mac users have very flexible fingers, because of do so much gymnastics with their fingers with the keyboard shortcuts.
i am using macos for 2 months and it's one of the hardest OS i ever used, even though i am a developer
3:39 On Sonoma, simply click anywhere on the desktop to make the windows float away.
True - should've said that! Thank you for mentioning it!
@@macvince Really liked the video and editing - great job!
Your animations are amazing! May I ask what software you use?
Much appreciated! I use Final Cut Pro.
What is your tools editing videos like this? Really nice to watch
Final Cut Pro :) Thank you!!
truly love your videos!! :)
Another way to maximize a window without going full screen is by double tapping the window's title bar.
I really like the video style
Much appreciated!!
fully agree, btw i use arch
Hey I just a new macbook air m1 and I think I have a problem with the battery, today I noted the battery percentage, I was using Figma, Notion,Few tabs in arc and this is the battery percentage drop,
3:30pm - 55%
4:12pm - 48%
5:00pm - 38%
5:30pm - 33%
can anyone tell me if I should be worried about this?
Fenomenal as always
It's 2024 and Apple is slowly learning - a lot of those "quality of life" things got added to *MacOS 15*. But yeah, a Mac is so much different if you are used to Windows since 30 years. For me it's definitely a learning curve even after 4 years of iPhone & iPad - I have my new Mac Mini M4 since Monday. 😎✌️
I never comment but u made me. Awesome vid dude!
Thanks man! Much appreciated :)
Hi Vince, I can’t find the video where you mention about an app that allows us to jot down a note to be displayed in the menu bar. Can I have some answer from you? Thank you!
As always, your video is super helpful for new Mac user!
Hey, thank you for your kind words! Do you mean OneThing? It's from the Free Mac Apps video: ua-cam.com/video/z0f7Gfimk5w/v-deo.htmlsi=wNHJ8SORT74nbMYU
Hope this helps!
But I find full-screen mode for apps very useful (as you seem to do), it is so much easier to switch context and app by sliding through open full-screen windows than finding them in the mess that develops as more and more windows are opened on your desktop.
this would have been good during the Quadra days.
Fire video thanks 🙏
Thank you so much 😊
This is good to know, because as much as I like Windows' usability, I'm really starting to dislike Microsoft and am considering switching to Mac when they end Win 10 support.
This is useful but once you learn the Mac way sometimes it’s so fluid you don’t need some of these commands
True!
Great thumbnails. What app do you use to create them?
Thank you! I use Pixelmator Pro :) Such a great app, really easy to learn if you use a Mac because the design language is basically the same. It's like a native Apple app.
Can you hide the icons on the desktop? There is this no tool, but everytime I turn off the display of the icons on the desktop, they quickly show up and then disappear...
Thanks.
Hey, that's weird. Can you get up the Screenshot Toolbar with Command, Shift and 5? Or is there just no clipboard option?
@@macvince yea I got to the toolbar it's just that there's no clipboard option. Im on Ventura
nice video, but you forgot the most important, as in macos latest versions one cannot float any more a window or app and pin it there on top of others. Lets say I want calculator sitting on top of my spreadsheet...can't be done, it has to be on the side of another window... Oh and if you minimize or press the X button on a browser with multiple tabs, good luck getting them back.
Thank you - and you can't??? That sucks! Had no clue the option wasn't there anymore.
I've always said that Windows is better productivity system than MacOS.
Hi! first of all great content, Thanks for useful information. I was and still I am Samsung ecosystem user, but had to switch to mac for work. but I have problems connecting my galaxy buds 2 to my mac(M1 pro), it has awful sound quality with mac. So is there any way to somehow configure and make it work?
Short and concise, how it should be
Great job 🤩
you know how on windows you can have multiple apps open in one screen, how do I do that on mac? example on windows I can have a chrome tab open, settings window, files window all open sharing the same screen, but on mac if I have chrome open and I click settings app, it will remove chrome and only the settings window is on my screen. Its driving me crazy
You can resize the windows, and then put them next to each other.
What microphone du you use?
The link is linked to the camera but not to the microphone type
Hey, it's from Sure. Sorry about that, I didn't update the link yet - you'll now find the new link in my description (still underneath My Tools, Kit & Gear). Hope this helps!
Rectangle has always been on my Macs, but since Ventura it doesn't get along with the Visual Organizer. Any thoughts on that?
Hey, I've never used Rectangle, sorry... I use Magnet since I got my first Mac and never had any problems with it.
How do we make the lockscreen time in sonoma in 12hr format. My clock in settings is already set to 12hr format but the same doest reflect in the lockscreen in sonoma
Thanks you are brilliant 😂
another reason why is windows better
I have a mac. after watching this vid, makes me regret more having a mac
Dude you are amazing same as your videos.
Thank you so much 😊
The first 10 seconds of this video has convinced me to stay on windows
You can't right click on something on a Mac and get Cut and Copy immediately?
No
Dude, you just saved my career 😂
Haha glad to hear that!

For the screen recording, QuickTime. For my talking-head footage, a Canon (but just upgraded to a Sony a6700) :)
