I'm gonna learn this wonderful language and keep it alive.
That's exactly the attitude we need, go n-éirí leat 👍
Watch the hanging gale or Ross nahrune
Great stuff Dane. Short, sharp and useful. Keep up the good work.
Thank you, I'll certainly try and keep them going 🙂
You have excellent pronunciation sir.
So I've been told, thank you. It's tough at the top.
I'm currently on a mission to learn Welsh, and so I got curious about this, too!
All part of the Celtic family, good luck with your journey.
Welsh or cymraeg as it’s known colloquially is another beautiful Celtic language it’s simply in another group there are two distinct groups goidelic which includes Irish , gaidhlig ( Scottish Gaelic ) and Manx Gaelic and the other is Brythonic and this is where welsh fits into the other two in that group are Cornish ( from Cornwall ) and Breton .if you’re interested there’s a channel made by a welsh guy called Gareth called welsh shark or something similar been a while since I watched . Just be aware it’s a tough language to learn as it’s got lots of mutation in verbs and words and double consonants which are aspirated but like any language once you understand the fundamental grammar rules and get them down then you’re on your way .
De réir a chéile a thógtar na caisleáin
Does anyone else feel like when he speaks Irish it looks like the audio is backwards? (no offenses)
Tranonach maith Dane, I thought ''I think" was '' Caipaim ''..
Tráthnóna maybe 😊
Really enjoying the online lessons. I am preparing for an Irish oral exam and this is refreshing what I learnt in school. Great work. Very grateful.
Nice to hear, thank you very much and good luck with the oral exam
The way the Jewish community recreated Hebrew from scratch starts with their reciting Torah and the Homesh Megillot in Hebrew every year. Most of Torah is stories. Most of the Homesh is stories. Romance stories like in Ruth and Song of Songs, Tragedies include Esther, Lamentations, and Ecclesiastes. They were read at the story level. You heard them pronounced as you imagined them being carried into the present time. They were not meant to convert people to their faith, just keep the faith, the community, and the language alive.
So, why are no fluent speakers reading the Bible or basic Irish stories and posting them on UA-cam. Teach us the stories in English and then teach them to us in Gaelic. It would be fun to here and easier to learn the words.
Good idea, The rebirth of Hebrew certainly offers a lot of hope.
Interesting information
@@LearnIrishreally, it's true! If we can bring a dead language back. We can too with a language that still is alive, we can save Irish Gaelic! Or gaeilge
You need the will to do something like that, would never happen here as its just easier to blame the Brits and bad teachers.
I know that I will be speaking good Gaelge (spelling correct?) in good time. Thanks Dane!! Your videos really help a lot. Writing Gaelic will be another task I take on, once I can get the letters and word combinations down. I have a notebook started with the various letters and combos written for sounds and I know eventually I will get them into written words and sentences. Keep up the great work!!--Tess
Gaeilge.
Thank you Tess, I would encourage you to try and pick up new words and phrases each day/week and learn just like a child would. The writing and grammar can follow later.
I’ve just discovered your channel now. It looks fantastic!
Thank you ❤️
You make a Good Job with promoting your Language. Like it.
Djenki bardzo 👌
Came looking for how to say Congratulations in Irish and this video came up. Even though it wasn’t included I really enjoyed the video. I lived in Ireland for 8 years but didn’t learn much Irish, the only thing I remember is “Is maith liom é” (I like it) and “Cen tam é?” (What time is it?”. The best Irish word I learnt though - which I don’t know if it’s really used - is “asclán” which means the amount of stuff you can carry under an arm. Really useful when bringing the messages home from the shop - “Do you need help unloading anything?” “Bah sure it’s only one asclán”
Very good, nice to have random words like that 😁
I've recently learned that a friend's husband speaks Gaelige so I'm subscribing to your channel so I take him by surprise with my knowledge of Irish phrases. Diolch yn fawr iawn!
I am so grateful for the captions being correct so I can pause to test and compare my pronunciations and then unpause and compare with yours. GRMA
The most interesting language, but will I ever be able to speak it/?
The answer to that depends on you.
Hi Dane... could you do a video some day of, like how to say two glasses of wine, one packet of this, 4 boxes of that, 5 bags of something and so on, that would be great.
Great idea, I'll try and get round to that in the future
Must say you're looking well, such a really good video, thank youuuuu
Glad to hear that, best wishes
Great work. I miss the subtitles for the sentences that aren't in the box.
Brian - all my videos are subtitled but you have to switch on the subtitles on your own settings.
@@LearnIrish LOL! Thanks! For some reason I didn't think it was that simple, but there it is.
Keep up the good work!
Míle buíochas as ár dteanga a chur chun cinn, Dane!
Míle fáilte, tír gan teanga tír gan anam
Tá sé seo uamhnach. Is é seo an ceacht is cuimsithí a mhúin tú go dtí seo! This is awesome. It's the most comprehensive lesson youve taught so far! ...Irish learners keep in mind that Dane's pronunciation is in HIS dialect. (A version of the Munster dialect, I guess) It might be useful for one to research Connacht and Ulster dialects and An Caighdeán Oifigiúil as well when learning Irish.
@Michael MacFaden Go hiontach. Go raibh maith agat. Is maith liom Siobhán. Is cainteoir laethúil í más Gaeilge í.
Foirfe! Go raibh míle maith agat do físeáin seo!
Míle fáilte romhat agus beannachtaí
Very good channel, need to learn à bit of irish as our daughter will begin irish school in September. Slan

Excellent video. Múinteoir maith.
Go raibh maith agat 🙌
Dane...is it acceptable to translate phrases we usually use in the North as Gaeilge or does it sound stupid.
Mar shampla.......Tabhair siochain do mo cheann.......Cibe deir tú, na h-abair Rudd ar bith.
I don't see any problem with an attempt at translating but a direct translation might not make sense
Go raibh maith agat a chara. I’m really enjoying your lessons. I only wish you were an Ulsterman......lol. Hard to get my head around the difference in pronunciation especially words like maith and raibh. We say 'moy' and 'ro' as opposed to 'ma' and 'riv'. Ah well....with three different dialects it just makes Gaeilge more special. Really love that the videos are so short and full of really useful words and phrases. It means I can watch one or two at a time and try and get something from them. Brilliant stuff and one the best on the net. My other favourite is being a friend of mine from Strabane. You should check him out. Look for Sean Mór on UA-cam. You’ll enjoy if you can follow the Tyrone accent....lol
Tá aithne agam ar Síle. Níl sí sásta ar cur ar bith!
Maith thú 😂
your great
That's why they call me the Great Dane.
brilliant thank you
Best wishes
Hi Dane! I am Syd. My grandmother spoke Irish. I want to also. For 18 months I have been waiting for my documents from the US and Ireland to be reviewed by the FBR offices north of Dublin. I hope to travel with my wife to Ireland in 2023. My grandmother was from Kinvara, Galway. My Great Aunt lived in Sligo. I was so saddened to hear that Ireland legalized abortion in late 2017. I was born Catholic.
Syd, I hope you can make it to the Motherland 🍀 you sound like a character.
Please put up the whole sentence!
