One of the most incredible, iconic voices of Australian music. I remember seeing him and The Copperwine at the Jannali community hall or arts centre (can't remember what it was called, waaay too many years ago), the place across the road from the station. They were awesome, Jeff's voice was amazing and the guitarist let me hold his guitar (a VERY generous thing to do. Both of these things had much to do with who I am as a performer). R.I.P. Jeff, you will be sorely missed.
what a beautiful guy I saw him at Bombay Rock Incredible . God strike me ,he went so far down on his wheelchair singing ,I was blown away ,Extraordinary singer I highly recommend ,do not arm wrestle him
Brilliant - longevity for this persona and VOICE of Jeff St John should never be forgotten and continually shared. He is a credit to his generation and an inspiration for generations to come. CUDOS and heartfelt thanks to Wrokdown!!! - LOVE your work!...
just picked up 'the jeff st john story'. great memories of a huge talent with one of the best voices i have heard after about 50 years of music trawling. thanks Anfuso's and jeff st john.
Just caught up with this great interview...well done Soozie. I was actually lucky enough to interview Jeff for an hour in 2006, on a show I used to do on WS FM in Sydney called The Classic Retrospective. He was the consummate entertainer, and a really good guy.
That is the second time l have heard Jeffrey recite one of his poems. They are so easy to listen too, plus make me want to hear more and more. He is so gifted with his knowledge of language, but also in the way he uses his voice. He should be world famous for that talent, teaching us all the beauty of language in poetry.
I hope it's not a regular state for the man. I hate to see folks battling with the bottle and selling ourselves short in what is a short stay on this planet. This may not be the case, but if it is, Phil, take care mate and git some healing if u need it.
Did he play at Led Zeppelin in Sydney in 1973 ? - I remember him being brought to the stage in a front end loader bucket from the back of the Showground Arena.
I expect when a person is born with spina bifida, and their whole life is spent managing the symptoms, one should be allowed a little self indulgence going into their older age. A little respect thanks Michael.
+Michael Carter How can you knock this man? Jeff has always had a self deprecating sense of humour and an intelligent man. He put himself out there and was accepted. Have some respect, if only for his fantastic singing voice. He has a good speaking voice as well. If you want to knock someone knock the crappy interviewer.
You know what until you walk in someone’s shoes how can you know! He pushed with confidence, all guns to his Mum who planted the seed that you can do this. As for 5he interviewer, she has exactly what is required to make the interviewee feel relaxed
Jeff St John is a true legend of Australian music thanks for doing this interview while he was still with us it is a great memory now for all of us.

Self indulgence takes on a whole new meaning
I expect when a person is born with spina bifida, and their whole life is spent managing the symptoms, one should be allowed a little self indulgence going into their older age. A little respect thanks Michael.

If you want to knock someone knock the crappy interviewer.
But praise God she went to the effort to catch up with this wonderful bit of Aussie music history, so we can too.
Is it Jeff's intelligence, or that he is articulate, and confident enough to express himself, that you are calling him self indulgent???????
He used to play at our high school dances way back in the 1960s, I wasn't impressed by him at all
