    Hello John! Thank you for your super practical advice.
    I'm having the domain issue you talked about. My IT guy is totally willing to open up the permissions for the transfer to "External co-teachers" but we can't seem to find the option on the administrative side. Do you know the steps of what the IT guy actually has to do to grant that permission to "External co-teachers"?

      Yes, it's in the Google classroom settings which you can access from the admin console. You will need to change the teacher permissions to "any Google account."

    When I went to an incognito window, my class did show up. However, when I click on the snowman, it only offers me the "unenroll" option. How do I get it to offer me a 'copy' option as shown in your video? Thank you so much.

      It sounds like you are a student in the class. Only teachers can make copies.

    Going to try google takeout for just my school G Class and see what comes across via email into my personal G Class space. Curious experiment. Not sure if its just the files behind, or will a nicely formatted class come across, IDK

      Takeout will download .JSON files...not really useful since you can't upload them to Classroom. 😥

    My results are very different- I get an invitation in Gmail to join as the coteacher but it brings me into the initial account- nothing happens in the receiving Classroom

      You will need to use an incognito window to prevent classroom from opening in your primary account.

    I'm working with a teacher on copying classes. After 3 hours the classes still say "creating". The class has a lot of assignments. Is the copying process similar to Google Take out and is dependent on the amount of data?

    • @jrsowash
      @jrsowash  3 роки тому

      Yes, it can take a while, although I have never waited three hours.
      You can always try making another copy. Sometimes they get "stuck"

    Hello John, I am having issues with copying my last years Google Classroom and almost all of my assignments failing to copy to my new Google Classroom. Do you any suggestions?

    • @jrsowash

      Can You confirm that the documents from last year's course are still in Google drive? If you deleted the files from drive, you will have trouble copying the course.

    Good to know. Unfortunately, I did not know that trick. So I am developing my GC with my personal gmail account. Instead of creating a new one with the new district email, Can I invite myself from my personal to the district email?

    • @jrsowash
      @jrsowash  Місяць тому

      Maybe...your new district determines sharing to/from external accounts

    Hi John,
    Thanks for your video.
    I have the domain problem, and when I ask the IT manager to allow sharing outside the domain, she sent me the following explanation, from google classroom forum for education (I cant copy the image to here):
    "you can transfer ownership to a co teacher that uses Google classroom with a personal Google Account."
    In my country we uses google classroom trough our ministry of education.

      Hi John, I manage to sent the invitation to my personal account, but I didn't receive the invitation in my personal account, how long should it take normally?

    • @jrsowash
      @jrsowash  2 роки тому

      It should be nearly instant.

      The course content will be available as long as they don't delete your account.

    Opening Google Classroom to users outside of the school domain seems risky. Is there a way to allow personal account access for teachers only (exclude students) to help mitigate that risk? If not, I can't imagine any IT admin who would be willing to make that change.

    • @jrsowash
      @jrsowash  3 роки тому

      Unfortunately the settings for Google Classroom are domain-only. You can't change them for a specific OU.
      It's not quite as bad as it might appear; The only way someone can join the class is by receiving an invitation from the teacher. A stranger can't "sneak in."
      You can also white-list a domain, if the teacher has an account in their new district.
      This setting only needs to be open long enough for the teacher to send an invite to their personal account. After that, the IT department can revert back to a closed system.

      @@jrsowash If the personal account get the invite and accepts, but the copy process hasnt started, If IT restores the restriction, willl my personal account lose that teacher access and the ability to copy the course?

    • @jrsowash
      @jrsowash  4 місяці тому

      Your IT director would need to change your school's domain setting so that you can join your personal account as a co-teacher.

    Can you transfer a student from one Google Classroom to another?

    • @jrsowash

      Not really. Students can leave one class and join another but their work does not follow them.
