From the “account” page of your Google settings, you can transfer an entire account’s drive and Gmail to another. This might depend on organization settings and on your personal needs, but works well!
Oh MY YES!! THIS IS EXACTLY what i was wondering about and NEEDING!! I work SO hard to make material and it is in my current drive, but I need to transfer it. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Love you
I absolutely love this video. I was in this situation two years ago when I switched districts. You can also make a Shared Drive and drag the files in there to another Drive to avoid making copies. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you. This is so helpful! It also explains some problems I’ve had this year. I took over certain responsibilities from a retiring colleague. Last summer, she shared several necessary documents and folders with me, then deleted all her files. When I tried to open them during the school year, I couldn’t access them. Now I understand why.
Thanks for all you do. You have definitely had a crazy year. I hope you take time this summer to do what makes you happy. You have saved so many educators and non-educators with your videos. You put in so much time helping others, learning more tech strategies, and everything else that we don't see behind the scenes. Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.
I just realized, I have been watching your channel for years, and around the same time I found you,, I had the idea to become a teacher. Now with that thought being in my head for years, I want to become specifically a 4th grade teacher. Without realizing, you have become a huge part in deciding what I want to do when I get older.
Happy End of the school year!!!! Michelle thank you sooo much for all the help you have given us educators who needed a little extra help! You are an AWESOME teacher! I have learned soooo much from your videos. We appreciate you! 📚 👩🏻🏫
Your video helped me transfer my files with ease!! A project I have been putting off for some time, but once I watched your video, it was easy to accomplish. Thanks so much!
PERFECT timing with this! My husband (PK-3 Principal) is moving to a new district in July (Pk-6! New adventures!) and was wondering the best way to transfer all of his files. Thanks as always
This is so good! I love your tech tips! My dad would be smiling right now if he we still working!! Google pay attention! Make it easier for teachers to transfer folders!
This is incredibly helpful and helped put my mind at ease. One anxiety I have remaining is that my lesson plans include many hyperlinks to other materials on Drive, that once that are copied into a new drive will no longer activate (I am assuming my account will be deactivated if I leave my place of employment). Another thought I had is that my personal/free Google account does not have the storage required and I will need to upgrade it!
This is so helpful. I followed your instructions but I get a message that says ownership cannot be transferred. Ownership can only be transferred to another user in the same organization as the current owner. Can you explain and tell me how I get around this. Thanks
Great stuff ,,, had much frustration trying to figure this out,,, google help forget it,,,, had to subscribe and sit before the teacher see what else you can teach me.,,
Does Michelle ever answer our questions? I have asked questions & it’s always viewers responding . She’s a teacher /coach, so not sure why she doesn’t respond to her viewer questions ?
@@karinaochoa1396 You said it. She's a teacher. She's crazy busy. This video is a few days old and it's the end of the school year. Give her some time. Also, she's got hundreds of thousands or subscribers. She can't respond to everyobody.
If I followed you correctly, the new files are ones with "Copy of". So, do they need to be renamed to remove the "copy of"? Then the original files that were transferred would be deleted - Yes?
Ok, but what if I want to just remove it (not delete it) from my drive but put it on a normal external hard drive or flash drive, how do I do that? (yes, I am old) thank you.
Great video! I actually did this last summer and your video would have been perfect. I have many files set to Google formatting (sheets etc) and didn't want to see that messed up by just downloading. I wasn't changing districts. I just wanted more control over my work. Once completed, I shared the main folder back to my school account.
This is a life-saver! It's like things that we knew but needed to be placed in one place. I appreciate it and so do my co-workers leaving the school district lol.
I cant thank you enough for this video. I was racking my brain because l had moved single files at a time, previously , mind you not remembering how l had did it. Now that I needed to move a hand full to a dozen it wasn't as easy. thnx again 5 thumbs up!!!
i've question, why after we make a copy of a file and the owner has changed but the amount of storage from my new gdrive account is not increase? is like the file is still in the older gdrive account :(
I tried this, but when I share the folder to my new email address and later go back in to the old address and right click to make the new address the owner, I receive the error message: "Sorry, cannot transfer ownership to (new email addy). Ownership can only be transferred to another user in the same organization as the current owner." Further more... there is no option to do it your second way advised here, as when I right cick on the folder to be shared.... there is no option for "Make a copy". I have "Share, Get link, Show the location, add short cut to drive, move to, add to starred, rename, change color, " however no option to make a copy. Any guidance much appreciated. TIA
I know this video is 2 years old but this is a lifesaver! Just to be clear, will the folders also still be on the original Google Drive? I'm trying to transfer a copy to share with iCloud. Once my current folders from Drive are on iCloud, is there a way to turn on iCloud to sync things back to Google Drive if need be? Thanks for your help!
As instructed at 7:00 mins. approx. on your recording, I am requested to make copies. However, I am not allowed to do this, i.e. the copy selection is not available on right clicking the mouse. Please advice? Thank you, Wynne
This is awesome info thank you so much! I am VA and I am helping someone rebrand so they had to switch their google drive. What would you suggest for old emails they want to keep?
This is an excellent video. Thank you so much! One follow up question for once this process has been completed. If a file was shared via a link created on the OLD drive..what happens when end users click on that link? Will the system automatically know to redirect the end user to the version of the file that resides on the NEW drive? Or do I have to comb through all of the links that were shared on the OLD drive and update those links to be associated with the files on the NEW drive? Sorry for being so wordy, I hope that this question makes sense. Thank you!
Hello and thank you for your videos! I follow your channel and tune in to new videos. :) When you are transferring the current drive (Drive 1) to your personal drive (Drive 2), do you change the general access from "restricted to anyone with the link". I'm not sure and from your video, it looks like, no changes were made to general access. As as I'm stuck on the this step, please could you help and thanks in advance.
Why google makes it so hard? In my case, the video wasn`t helpfull as I have many folders and subfolders and it would be insane to go folder by folder and copy each folder files.
So I create designs for shirts, cups etc. I want to start selling the Google access for customers to pay as membership lifetime access with new designs added every day. Should I make a whole new Google account for that so they don’t see anything personal ? Also how do I keep from someone accidentally deleting images from it
If you have the Google Drive app installed on your computer, you can copy a folder in Google Drive the same way you'd copy any other folder of files. Right-click on the folder, click Copy, then go wherever you want to copy the folder, right-click again, and click Paste. And that's how to duplicate a folder in Google Drive.
The problem with this method is that google doc and google sheet files are copied as .gdoc and .g sheet which are not files but shortcuts. If you try to copy these files back into another drive they wont be recognized.
This was the clearest and most straightforward tutorial I've seen. Thank you!
From the “account” page of your Google settings, you can transfer an entire account’s drive and Gmail to another. This might depend on organization settings and on your personal needs, but works well!

what if the previous account is being deleted?

Loved this one. Do you also have a video on how to move from Gmail to Google Workspace Mail?
I really wish we could copy folders, it would make things so much easier!
K but if we can’t share with an account out of our district, how can we move them to be able to make a copy of them. I’m still missing something. 🧐
THANK YOU SO MUCH 🙏🏼

Hi, you can copy the complete folder if you have Google Drive of both accounts sync to your computer! That's what I personally did and it worked 😉
