Why is bird ("Tori") pronounced and written (in English) with R sound but the hiragana don't have R sound? I see the same with Arigatou -- written in hiragana without an R sound. Should you still pronounce with the R?

Hmm the Hiragana is "ri り" in both of these tho, written and pronounced with R . Maybe you thought it was only "i い", since they look very similar? いり

for me r in japanese is pronounced more as an L sound
