[ File.11 ] Learn Japanese Language With Subtitles - Convenience Store

  • Опубліковано 3 жов 2019
  • This video has been created for those who are learning Japanese language.
    It's only used hiragana and katakana.
    There is no kanji.
    So it's suitable for beginners and intermediate Japanese learners.
    I go to various places in Japan every time and talk with some people.
    You can learn Japanese that are actually used.
    Let's listen to real Japanese that is not in ordinary Japanese textbooks.
    I'm paying a lot of attention to Japanese subtitles. But I'm not good at writing English, so there may be some mistakes in English subtitles.
    Please consider English subtitles to be your help only if you don't understand my Japanese.

    The biggest thing which I'd need to get used to is that small-talk basically doesn't exist. In the Netherlands you'd say stuff like "Thank you, have a nice day!" to each other after paying and in Japan that just doesn't seem to happen.
    I would feel so rude if I just left even if it isn't rude at all, haha.

    • @moshimoshi.yusuke
      @moshimoshi.yusuke  3 роки тому +70

      For us, non-small talk doesn't feel rude, and most people don't mind it.
      But, to be honest, I feel convenience stores in Japan to be very mechanical. So I find it kind of lonely. I think it would be better to have that kind of communication in Japan as well.
      I guess it's a similar feeling to small talk in your country, we express our gratitude by bailing lightly rather than saying it out loud.
      It's interesting to see the differences in culture and customs.

    • @RiderOfTheRohirrim
      @RiderOfTheRohirrim 2 роки тому +53

      @@dotmerah6713 Yo calm down. This is called 'talking about cultural differences'. In no way was I saying that not having small talk is bad (if anything, it's amazing). I didn't even say I was surprised by it, I merely said I would need to get used to it. You know, cultural differences always take time to get used to.
      Of course I don't expect anything to be like my home country, it's a completely different continent lmao. Why would you even assume something that stupid.

      @moshimoshi.yusuke  2 роки тому +35

      Each country has its own culture. We all know that.
      But we seem to need more. We all need to be tolerant, understanding that verbal misunderstandings may also occur.

    • @scheimaa172
      @scheimaa172 2 роки тому +35

      @@moshimoshi.yusuke The Sad part is that even small talk becomes mechanical, it's just hard not to be mechanical if you're greeting a new customer every 30 seconds for 7 hours a day and then wishing them goodbye. Yusuke-san, this is epic! I've watched several videos about conbini vocab, but nothing beats the real thing. The small nuances and variations, the different accents are all lost when a teacher is presenting in a perfectly articulated Japanese, and here they are, all real as found in the wild!
    People on UA-cam are usually reluctant to shoot in Japanese shops, because fair use doesn't exist and the official approval takes weeks if not months. Glad you've found a way to circumvent these restrictions.
    I can't even imagine the amount of work you put into editing. Deciphering the mumbling, making subtitles, blurring the faces, finding the oden ingredients... Simply fantastic.

Das liegt vielleicht daran, dass das Volk in Deutschland moralisch, ethisch und kulturell nicht so homogen ist wie in Japan oder vielen anderen asiatischen Ländern. Du musst mal nach Pakistan, Afghanistan usw. Die Leute dort sind vielleicht nicht so extrem höflich oder professionell wie in Japan aber dafür großteils super gastfreundlich und fürsorglich, vor allem bei "kulturell Fremden Touristen". I have just discovered your videos - being able to hear natural Japanese phrases is so useful. I'm Scottish and my wife is Mexican, but we live in Tokyo. We can "get by" with our Japanese, but I'm sure we use many unnatural phrases without realizing it! 手伝ってくれてありがとうございます!

    Woah for the longest time I've been looking for a video like this! It really is easier to learn a language when you can hear examples of actual conversations~
    Also, it's really cool how interactive you are! I've seen you reply to recent comments even tho the video was uploaded one year ago. Your dedication is amazing! Thank you for your hard work!🙏

    Thank you! I have been searching for a video like this. I've seen videos where people explain convenience store vocabulary and phrases, but I still wasn't sure how it fit together. I also wasn't sure exactly what a "script" for a clerk looked like, but this video had plenty of examples.
    I work at a fast food store in the US, and there aren't many Japanese people in my area, but I wanted to know how to talk at the cash register if someone did happen to come. This video was perfect to give me an idea of the variations and help me not sound weird if I tried to talk to someone. XD

    I'm always fascinated to hear the kind of music they play in convenience stores in Japan too. Like at @20:45 I'm pretty sure that's a classical orchestra version of More Than a Feeling by Boston

    The curious thing to me is the lack of "thank you" at the end of each conversation at the convenience store. That is something that is quite common where I hail from in the US. It is expected that you thank someone...even as far as saying, "No, thank you," or "I don't need a receipt, but thank you anyway".

    Excellent learning resource. Thank you for taking the time to do this. As a beginner I also appreciate the use of hiragana/katakana over kanji. I am very early in my kanji learning and often stumble when hitting one I don’t know without furigana. I can read the Japanese text here and understand and then listen to the pronounciation when spoken.
    And you are correct, they speak very fast and mumble/skip/blend sounds that to a native speaker are fine. Tricky for me as a learner but I understand how this works in the real world and need to get as much real world immersion as possible.
