LUNA Moth at the LIGHT TRAP
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 чер 2021
- The illustrious luna moth is among one of our most common and beautiful silk moths here in the United States. These beautiful moths, like the vast majority of the silk moths, lead fleeting adult lives as they lack the means to procure food and nourish themselves as moths. Their one and only job as adults is to mate and ensure that they do their part to continue through their offspring! These luna moths also possess long tails as an adaptation to help prevent hungry bats from targeting their soft and nutritious bodies! Have you seen a luna moth before? Let me know in the comments!

#Luna #Moth - Домашні улюбленці та дикі тварини
It’s amazing to me how complex, dynamic and beautiful these creatures are. Even though insects usually don’t live long, they play a huge role and appreciate you highlighting the Luna.
Luna Moths are absolutely stunning, it’s impossible not to love them. Can’t wait to set up a light trap again, hopefully I can get some Saturniids like that guy in the right season.
Great video! The Luna moth is such an iconic moth, and they are very beautiful! They are definitely very fascinating organisms! As always you put a lot of great information in your videos, and awesome work!
What a magnificent creature
I remember I was scared of moths when I was a kid. Now I think they are more beautiful than butterflies
i’m so happy i found this video! i love luna moths and i love your videos!! ^_^
Thank you so much!!
Summer of 2023, I'll be able to drive and I'll drive myself to a nearby forest, "tools" in trunk, and get them out on a warm, wet, moonless night and get me some perfect pictures with them. I love bugs, bug photography, etc. so wish me luck! (also hoping to get a separate camera because my phone is great and advanced with EVERYTHING but the camera)
I will be watching this it's so crazy how diverse the colors and species of moths are
Saturniid gang represent
Only the best 💖
BART!
Luna moths are gorgeous creatures. Nice specimen for you to show us.
Hello great video Jack
Very cool. I’ve only ever seen them a couple of times, flying high. I’m gonna need a light setup!
Absolutely! Light trapping is one of the most fun things we get to do on Jack’s World of Wildlife! 😂 definitely beats hiking for 10 hours and not getting your target; your target comes right to you!
I found a Luna dieing on the ground I brought it home with me let it pass and now it's in a frame! Love love love it
I remember seeing one of these when I was in high school and was so freaked out by how big it was!!!! They are super cool though!!
She’s so pretty!!
Good year for Luna here in New Hampshire this spring, Thank you Jack... You should let her lay some ova for you and raise some fat cats.
Been meaning to try raising some Saturniids this year. I was hoping to get some Cecropia, there were reports a few miles from where we set up the light
Is it just me that likes moths better than butterflies- I mean they so cool my (for a few months) pet elephant hawk moth is in its cocoon
I’m definitely more partial to moths as well 😎👍
Same
very very pretty
Moths are my main area of interest! National Moth Week is only a week away, are you participating in it? This will be my 7th year!
Been adding my inat reports of moths all week! Got that head start 😎
@@JacksWorldofWildlife A discipline I lack, getting my reports in on things. I need to have a sit-and-upload day 😅
What type of light is that!
It’s a UV light
What brand of light are you using?
The light trap? It’s custom.
Oh thanks
Is there a specific brand of uv or black light that you recommend for light trapping?

Would have been way better to observe her than watch her be man-handled, dropped, pinned… was stressful to even watch, can’t imagine what it was like for the moth. For as much admiration conveyed, kind of disrespectful. Thumbs down.
