- A second trapping session from the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust's Misson Carr reserve and it didn't disappoint either, as moth numbers had increased since my first visit back in May.
another great video , thanks.Ifound a pupa a week ago but did'nt know what it was so i put it in a coffee jar, yesterday it turned into an old lady never seen one before , great so exiting.
So busy it looked like one of those videos you can find of trapping in tropical climes.😂
I thought it was going to get like that, but I like to pack up with at least an hour's darkness left, as it gives the moths chance to sort themselves out and find cover before dawn.
So beautiful to see so many moths around the light, I haven't seen that in years. Thanks for sharing Trevor 👍
Yes, a nice increase in numbers Andy.
those little flying mosquitoes and gnats are a real pain. they always fly into my eyes and up my nose
Had one in the ear, but luckily didn't go past where I could retrieve it.
Thanks very much for this video. Just a question: if one is travelling, is there any material that is easy to carry and nearly as effective?
The biggest item for which you could save weight, would be the generator. I've no experience of much else, other than the three generators I have used over the years. This current one is much lighter and easier to carry, but I wouldn't want to carry it very far from the car. There are other power supplies to get power to the light, but I have no experience of them. A portable lantern with a small flourescent bulb (or two) is one option, which is how I first started out trapping away from home.
Thanks!@@theramblingentomologist
Are you using a high pressure mercury lamp?
Yes, it's an MBFU high pressure 125W MV bulb, sat in a porcelain holder.
@@theramblingentomologist Thank you so much! Your experience is very helpful to me. I will keep following you
