  • RIDE-CT dips into the archives for a story produced in 2018 about a one-owner 1966 Ford Fairlane 500. Bruce Martin of Goshen, CT got rid of a Ford Mustang to get a new Fairlane and never expected that he'd still own it for so long.

I have both 66 and 67 fairlanes. They are finally getting their appreciation after all these years.

I REALLY enjoyed your story! Thanks for posting. Most people 'our age' know of at least one car they wish they had kept!!

To Mr. Martin, You have a beautiful Fairlane so obviously well cared for. My Uncle and Aunt had one they bought used from another family member back in the early 1970's that was almost a twin to your car , there's being in dark blue not black. I do not believe that car had power steering or brakes. Unfortunately they went off the road during an Easter Sunday Ice storm here in Ct.. and although the car survived it was never the same due to body twisting and they traded it away for a 1969 Ford LTD four door hardtop.

Really wild! I like these "one owner" stories!

I remember this car from the Municipal Stadium show in Watertown, many years back. I've always loved it

I’m the third owner of a 4-door 66 Fairlane (dad was second owner and got it in 1988 with 43 000 miles on it) it now also has almost exactly 55 000 miles on it! The interior is like new, but the exterior looks nowhere near as nice as this one though unfortunately, the first owner was a local convenience store owner (it still has a metal plaque with the name of the store and town next to the steering wheel) and probably used it all year round and this is in south Sweden right next to the sea so it has seen some snow and salt to be sure. I’m never selling that car though.

You certainly have to keep it.

@@ride-ct-classiccarsI am, it has been in my life as long as I can remember and I’m keeping it safe and maintained at the moment, if I ever get the funds I’ll consider a full restoration, even if it’ll cost more than the car is worth, but for now I kinda like the patina.

I have an original 66 Fairlane 500 XL. Handed down from my parents. She does need work for sure but it’s great to get out to local car meets in her.
What is this airbag & fan set up you mention?? I’d like to find something like this as I do get heavy condensation in shop floor

I have a '67 Fairlane. I don't know who at Ford decided to put the gas filler where it is.

      Why?
He gets good gas mileage with the setup he has now and it's been around this long because it hasn't been dogged out.
