GORUCK Rucker 3.0 25L | Review & Plate Compatibility Test
In this video I show you and in depth look at the GORUCK Rucker 3.0 and explain why it's a superior rucksack than the cheap bag I've been using for the last year and a half. I compare the two bags, give you a look at how they fit differently, and show you how different ruck plates fit into the 35L Rucker 3.0.

Thanks for the video. I’m looking at getting the Rucker 3.0. I’m fine paying for the bag but not $110 for a single 35lb plate. Thanks for testing out the budget plate for us.
I agree completely. Invest in the ruck, the plates aren't priority. Thanks for checking out the video.
Agreed
Good video review - I have the black 3.0 and love it. Yes - only pack with 2 holders from GoRuck. Got a friend to get one as well and we meet up weekly. Great way to burn calories and get in the woods or walk the hood.
Ah man, that’s awesome. It’s a great activity to link up with friends on. And - good call on the black one. I had to really convince myself to step outside the black default haha
I just got mine today to replace my GR1. If you've EVER done any kind of aggressive ruck workout with a GR1 and a weight plate, then you too have probably had you bell rung by a sliding plate while doing push ups, LOL! Looking forward to this bad boy. Dedicated velcro plate pockets, side handles, and lumbar support are welcomed upgrades. Cheers!
Nooo that sliding plate is lethal haha. Enjoy the Rucker man, it’s an awesome tool. It won’t make the weight feel any lighter but they did a great job thinking through some of these features.
Hey brother, this is a great video, i'm hoping your channel grows much more, you deserve it!
Hey man, thanks for tuning in! YT is a lot of fun, both from a viewer and from the creator perspective.
Thanks for the review! I keep coming back to this video while making a decision. I am also 6'2, was wondering if you feel the 25L is tall enough for you, or if you would maybe prefer the Long Range variants (1/2" - 2" taller)?
I haven't tried the Long Range yet, but I haven't ever felt like mine was too small or fit awkwardly. I think this one is great.
Knowing FL's frequent hit-and-runs, I'd get some kind of light to put on there in addition to the reflector if I was walking around Tampa before sun up. Good video.
You’re not lying about that one! I’ve seen some other guys out with lights on, that’s a good call.
@@Levi.Jaeckel I'm just across the bay so I know that during any outdoor cardio in FL, you have to act like drivers are unstable, old or unfamiliar with the area because many are.
Hey thanks for putting this video together! I got the exact same set up now. It seems with the off brand plates you need to stabilize them a little more to keep them from sliding side to side, maybe with something like a cut up pool noodle. Also I noticed a 10 lb plate fits nice in the second pocket as well.
Wow, the pool noodle is an awesome idea. I have noticed a little slide with the off-brand plates, too. This weekend I used a water bladder on a long ruck for the first time, I could tell the bladder was helping keep the plates in place. A permanent noodle would definitely make a difference. Appreciate the share!
Yeah no problem! Have fun carrying a sack of weights around your neighborhood!
@@5justinleach haha! Exactly. Gotta love it.
New Rucker and subscriber. I dig your vibe. Much mahaloz 🤙
Great Review!! Do you think titan plate 20lb (13.5x7x0.99) would fit to the secondary pocket? goruck 20lb plate is (11.5x9x0.84) and they said that goruck plate will fit to the secondary pocket, but I am trying to save some money by buying alternative plates.. I am trying to ruck with 45lb in the main pocket and the 20lb in the secondary pocket, but the titan plate is 2" taller so that it might not fit to the secondary pocket?
I am exactly looking for the same model you had. goruck rucker 3.0 coyote brown😮😮.
It’s an awesome pack, you won’t be disappointed.
I don’t think the Titan Plate will fit in the secondary Velcro pocket. There’s a chance that both the 45lb plate and the 20lb plate could slide together in the big pocket, but I don’t have a 45lb plate to test that. Regardless, in that situation, a 20lb plate will still fit in the bag. It doesn’t have to go in the pocket at all. I’ve also seen people use the GORUCK sand bells as extra weight. That’s a cheaper option than their branded plate and may be more comfortable sitting freely in the ruck.
@@Levi.Jaeckel Thank you. I ended up buying 45lb from amazon and 20lb from goruck. Have a great weekend!
You sold me. I'm in the Tampa area also. Is there a good trail (with different elevations) to rucking in this area?
Nice man! Unfortunately, elevation is tough for us to come by here locally. Unless we are tackling some of the causeway bridges. Sometimes that’s accessible and sometimes it’s too much to coordinate.
If you specifically need to hit elevation gain and loss I would work that into some of your training in the gym. Work those single leg exercises, lunge variations, step-up variations. That will at least simulate some of the incline work we can’t practice on the trails.
Thanks for reaching out!
Question I'm getting the goruck 3.0 plate carrier, which plates outside of goruck can actually fit into the actual carrier because I'm trying to save money getting the 20 to 30 pounds plates
I've gotten this question a lot and unfortunately cheap +20lbs don't fit in the Plate Carrier. I have 20 and 30lbs that you can find here amzn.to/3z0aas0 but they are too tall for the Plate Carrier. Keep an eye on GORUCK's site, though. They'll frequently run a bundle deal for the Plate Carrier and a plate of your choice for like $150 shipped. Watch their site here. goruck.go2cloud.org/SH36L
Actually, here's an idea. Follow that GORUCK link above and then click their "closeout" tabs. They've got a 45lb Ruck Plate Carrier available for $80. That size of RPC should be able to hold the taller generic plates that I linked above. All-In that's around $100.
How did you hang your flags on the concrete wall?
Underrated question. I went through a few options. The ones that stuck were actually Command Strips. Command Strips also hold up the white board and the digital clock on the wall.
Enjoyed the video, and I've thought about giving rucking a try. Took a look at the Goruck bags and they are very expensive! Are they worth $200 more than a 5.11 bag?
That’s actually a good topic for another video. Personally, I looked at it like this. This will be an A+ training bag for as long as I could ever want to ruck with it. And, it can easily double as a travel bag and an outdoor adventure bag. It’s got a lifetime warranty so it’s a safe long term purchase. And… I spent a year and a half with a really cost effective bag first to make sure that rucking was something that was valuable to my training routine. Thanks for this question, this is a really practical topic
Nice looking ruck.
They make the best stuff 👌🏼
Is the hip belt detachable?
Yep! It comes included with the bigger 25L option, you have to buy separately with the smaller 20L size. It’s a MOLLE attachment, so it can be removed
Would you then be able to add a (3rd) plate to the second slot even after having two plates in the first or would that make it to tight to do so?
I didn’t test wether all three of those plates will fit, simply because going to 65lbs sounds awful haha. The two plates in the big pocket do bulge the sleeve just a touch, but I bet there’s enough room in the second slot. There’s definitely enough room to slide in those old ten pound iron plates that I have.
@@Levi.Jaeckel Ah ok, got my Rucker 3.0 yesterday and your review was very helpful. Thanks! 🤙🏾
@@305dave Nice! Enjoy it, it's an awesome addition to a training routine.
That is 100% accurate… only sac that has 2 plate holders.
Okay awesome, appreciate the confirmation!
Great vid. Can you fit 2 generic plates in the back pocket with the goruck plate in the front pocket? Thx
Yes, you can. I can fit a generic 20 and 25 in the back pocket and a 25lb GORUCK plate in the front.
Thank you so much for this review! Would you be able to fit that one 25 lbs goruck plate in the other pouch with the other 25 and 20 lbs plate in the other pouch already?
Yes, all three plates can fit in those two pouches together. That’s a bear of a load!
I have been rucking 2 weeks ago... With bag of rice
Love that.
