    The way you showed the water containers at different heights relative to the plant answered my question! Probably gonna get these for a 5 week out of town job training.

      Me too!! I had the water container up at a sharp slope so it was watering my moss pole a little too fast. I rearranged and moved the water jar down, and now it's working great! My plant says thank you! 🎉

      I left for 3 months and most if not all of the 39 Blumats I had inserted in my 29 plants (I used 2 on a couple of my large plants) and I think all but one plant survived. I think that one the hose on the Blumat might have been clogged or something. I'm getting ready to go on another 3 month trip and setting them all up again. (I came here to see if anyone answered a Q that I had about, can or should I top off (aka water) my plants manually after I add the carrot to the soil or will that be an excess water amount and the syphoning won't ever start up) (but no one has confronted that issue and saw your comment so I thought I'd answer your question. I used collapsible 5 Gallon water jugs I got on Amazon as my reservoir. Not the prettiest solution but they lasted! @@horshodg

    Am keen to try this out, only concern is overwatering and root rot, where can I read customer reviews ? Looks like a good way to manage watering a few, I have 134 and counting indoor plants, this just might lighten my load.

    Will top dressing require hand watering to push the nutrients down to root level? Or will moisture doled out by blumat be adequate for the feeding times.

    • @HappyHydro
      @HappyHydro  2 роки тому +4

      Hey! From what I understand, the moisture provided from the blumat system would be enough to percolate the nutrients to the roots. Or you can always add your nutrients to the water reservoir and apply nutrients that way. If you add the nutrients directly to the reservoir, it is recommended to start with 25%-50% less than recommend amount of nutrients because there is virtually no run off with blumat system. Hope that helps!

    Would it be possible to extend the hose with a longer one? I am wondering if it would be possible to use it outdoor maybe 10 feet away from the water tank

    • @HappyHydro
      @HappyHydro  3 роки тому +5

      Yes, you can definitely use a longer hose if you want. Just grab yourself some 3mm hose and a couple of 3mm unions to extend the hose. If the Blumat is over-watering your plant, you can place the reservoir lower (relative to the Blumat). The reservoir can be as far as 12″ below the Blumat while still watering your plant, albeit slowly.
      If the Blumat is under-watering your plant, you can raise the reservoir relative to the Blumat. The higher the reservoir, the faster the flow rate.

      @@HappyHydro I am in the desert where it gets around 110 degrees so maybe higher flow with the hoses buried in the ground might be best because they would be cooking out in the sun.

    Can you use water soluble nutes in the classic? Its porous enough or not? I am talking water soluble at 1/4 strength. Maybe with a smaller resevoir so its never sitting long?

    • @HappyHydro
      @HappyHydro  2 роки тому +1

      Hey! Sorry for the delay but yes you can use water-soluble nutrients. Also, a good idea to do 1/4 strength. You will also want to keep some drip clean on hand to be able to flush out any debris.

      In the Blumat Classic, the water comes from the semipermeable clay carrot

    • @dandana4647
      @dandana4647 11 місяців тому

      in fact if you do it the way he does it you will end up with the pipe and the carrot full of water .when the carrot is stuck into the ground as it is made of a porous clay the water will flow from the carrot to the soil creating thus a depression that as a result makes the water flow from the bowl to the carrot through the pipe .hope it’s clear .it is very important to see the bubbles in the bowl prior to placing the carrot into the ground .

    how much can the classic release? in an hour?

    • @HappyHydro

      If the reservoir and the plant are at the same level. Then it would be 75ml/24h or 125ml/24h (XL) ...Raising the reservoir will allow more water to the plant while lowering the reservoir would result in less water. Hope that helps!

    Can I run my nutrients through it?

    • @HappyHydro
      @HappyHydro  2 роки тому +1

      I would say generally no. If you were to get some type of build up in there it would be really tough to find. I talked to the people at Blumat and they mentioned top dressing would work best and that there is enough moisture to percolate the nutrients down to the roots. Hope that helps!
