as a new player to the game I really appreciate the deep dives into each faction like in this video. I've been following you for a few weeks now and you're my top source for 40k tips and tricks. keep up the great videos.
As an imperial fist my play style is to endure a tough punches because I also get 2nd turn and hit back harder. I mostly enjoy shooting but sprinkle in melee when needed. Centurions are my melee.
Tyranids playstyle: trying to not be tabled by the end of round 5, being surprised whenever your unit DID NOT die, being disappointed because battleshock didn’t do sh!t again, dancing around tanks because you can’t dent them… sooo much fun.
Yeah, literally this. I feel like I'm playing hide and seek with lictors at the end because I'm just trying to avoid certain death. Nearly took out a land raider in one turn with the casino cannon last game though
It's baffling to me that half the faction identity seems to revolve around battle shock which is pretty much a nothing no impact mechanic even when it DOES activate. I've never had an opponent's battle shocked units be the reason the tide turned. And for how little it does proc, it genuinely makes me question what the point of the mechanic is. It's the one rule that everyone I play with near unanimously forgets exists, even when I'm bringing NIDS to the table. It makes me wish that it was either not in the game and all abilities revolving around it are completely re-worked (much more effort) or that battle shock itself gets re-worked. Talked about it with a friend and we homebrewed an alternative ruleset because we were both tired of our big tanky units getting one shot if we didn't win the dice roll to go first, so we decided to play with alternating move-shoot where each player does a single unit's move-shoot-charge-fight phase before passing it to the other person, and reworking battle shock into a morale system like in Total War where units who fail the check will fall back half their movement (disabled on Battle Round 1 because of things like AdMech Rad-Zone), and if they hit the edge of the board as a result, they'll flee to the reserves, allowing them to be deployed elsewhere. It's a lot more dynamic and fun in our opinion because he gets to actually use his Baneblade and it'll survive long enough to actually fire at least one time. Counter units live long enough to actually counter SOMETHING instead of being deleted because you rolled a 1 and your opponent rolled a 5, so they get to move and shoot before you even have a chance to respond. We're still tweaking it, but at least now battle shock does something more interesting. We even thought about changing it to a failed battle shock check rolls 1d6 and if it rolls a 6 it will retreat its full movement away from the closest enemy unit because we thought Deadly Demise was by far the most entertaining and hilariously fun ability. Always a good time when something explodes.
I’d add that the Hammerhead or Sky Ray are also pretty key units for the Tau. They are both absolutely savage long-range anti-tank vehicles with the ability to re-roll a hit and a wound roll, and the Hammerhead gets a Ballistics Skill bonus (stacking with the Guiding bonus) when attacking monsters and vehicles. The notorious Hammerhead railgun has 20 strength, -5AP, Dev wounds and D6+6 damage, making it able to dish out high damage fairly consistently. The Hammerhead Ion Cannon is less consistent than the one the Ghostkeel or Riptide get (being D6+3 attacks instead of a flat number) but can still dish out devastating damage against groups of heavy infantry. I’ve annihilated an entire squad if space marines with it in one go with it before.
Not listing Biovore as a key unit for the 'Nids when the Biomine strat is between 10-20% of their current winrate is laughable, not to mention they can do decent damage outside of that. Auto-include for virtually any list.
@@MrShukaku1991 I think GW knows we would be unplayable without it propping up our winrate and are too lazy to actually fix the codex in return for getting rid of them.
Wonderful video, thank you very much :) Side not from me: I would add the Biovore as the key unit for the tyranids. Without here it is very hard to score secondaries and win any games
-Adeptus Custodes : super elite soldiers that are really hard to ki...ah wait, no, not anymore they aren't. -Adeptus Custodes : super elite soldiers that are super good at punching above their weight...ah wait no, they took away our +1 to wound strat so we can't really kill tanks efficiently anymore...damn it, let's try again ! -Adeptus Custodes : super elite soldiers that are kinda cheap for what they d...what do you mean we're way more expensive than before the index??? ...Ok, just don't play custodes.
I saw people wining after codex, but the list was the worst part (canis rex + 3 calladius grav tanks + characters, how you said, If you want to play custodes, dont play them, use imperial knight with some random custodes characters to follow them xd

Great video as always. I'm tired of beating this drum, but until The Hive Mind can develop ways of dealing with armor and/or high toughness, i don't see their win rate improving much of at all this edition. I still love them though!
Only Grey Knights Strike Squads have the sticky objective ability. The Interceptor Squad can move far, up to 18” and 24” if using a strat, but do not have the sticky icky objective ability.
Man, I wish the CSM had more shooty options. Just to balance it out more. I kinda hate the idea that GW has decided Chaos = Melee. Though I guess I'm more appropriately asking for an updated Defiler, and/or a Predator refresh.
I like armies without too many models to pick from. I settled on the Votann because a) ROCK AND STONE and b)they have a decent range but not overwhelming. what other armies come into that category?
I really hate that GW didn't give Codex Compliant Chapters some kind of Chapter bonus. And I'm still scrathching my head why GW decided to make all Combi Weapons use the same characteristics, when every prior edition they were basically Bolters with a 2nd ranged weapon attached like a Flamer, Melta, Plasma, etc... and the Bolter still had access to Rapid Fire 1. You had the option to Fire both Combi weapons, but at the cost of -1 to Hit.
Love your information but if GW want each army to have 50/50 chance so it’s more like chess (this coming from someone who’s never played). You need a control army. So take one of the best armies. Keep it where it’s no changes. Then start calculating an actual power figure say 1-10. based on defence and offense and and how effective they actual are. So if top army say has a tank. Hard to kill and puts out loads of damage and very effective costs 200 to deploy. Compare that to say a tyronefex and norms and actual leaders in the Tyranid army and adjust those accordingly. So increase the range of a norm and decrease the price cost. Idea is to use the same formula for each unit to make not everything the same but level the playing field. You would also have to take in identity. Tyranid melee should be deadly but ranged fire like in the game and easy to kill but you should have better movement and be able to field enough mini units to swarm the enemy and win. Then you tailor the stratagems. Swarm Stamped one could be good. Sorry to be using Tyranids as an example but I’m thinking of investing of them for an army so there the only one I’ve researched . Just wondering if it’s possible?
My guess is that with 10th edition they are trying to prevent power creep. But since we have the indexes to compare to it leaves people with feels bad.
Dw knight terminators: weak damage for terminators which are already lacking damage 😅. The DA review is really tamed as the only way to play them is to forget their units besides Azrael and Darkshroud and play ironstorm like most of the SM armies.
The problem is that space marines is by far and away the most popular newbie faction. Which means all the inexperienced players bringing SM armies are hurting them. It also doesn’t help most experienced marine players are going into a divergent chapter this edition for Space Marine +
@@timunderbakke8756 I agree - I think it is just the high new player rate that is driving their numbers down. Any serious competitive player can take them all the way.
And again about the Death Guard,, why plugburst crawler if there is a defiler with a better gun and an excellent melee fight? Much better target for buffs, and much better for aggressive play to occupy central strategic points.
Indirect fire makes a big difference especially when combined with the lord of virulence, it’s easier to keep them safe/actually able to be hidden behind most terrain, their sponson weapons are generally better than the defiler’s, and arguably most importantly they are cheaper. Plus it’s pretty hard to really utilise the defiler’s melee given it’s basically got a giant ‘shoot me’ sign on it, and there isn’t much of a damage difference in their main gun… +1 damage vs lethal hits… so it’s a more expensive and risky unit for not all that much in the way of benefits (especially when if you want something to park on a middle objectives there’s better death guard units t which you where already prob gonna take).
@@Swampert919 But an enemy shooting at a defiler is wonderful. Stealth and cover behind the smoke stratagem. It is only 10(!) points more expensive, not 40 or 80. This is a ridiculous difference. The plugburst's sponson guns are weak, do not shoot far, and are quite comparable to one twin-linked defiler laser cannon. And what kind of threat is this that is scary to receive an indirect hit with damage 2? This is an anti-infantry profile. And, again, it is useless in close combat in an army about close combat and mid-range combat.
@@Wybrand418 What if he places three defilers, who will go under the smoke screen, which stacks with the disease at -1 to the ballistic skill? Which has more damage, better range, strong melee and a terrifying tank shock? Or do your armies somehow shoot at each other without entering the line of sight?
Just to point out on Death Guard that Purifier's foul infusion makes their meltas the strongest on table top for example they can make them ap-6 (ap-7 if you pick -1 to save spread the sickness) and ignore cover and they lethal hit on 5s for the entire plague marine unit is very terrifying for certain tanks like Rogal dorns who don't have a invuln. Not only that but their melee out does Khorne berserkers by a mile as you can give the plague marines 5 heavy plague weapons which is 4+ str 8 ap-2 d2 lethal on 5s can make them ap-3 or 4 possibly 5 because of spread the sickness while the khorne berserkers can only have two eviscerators. The purifier has his own tier in Death Guard because he turns your plague marines into easily the strongest marines in the game with the full lethal hits and crits on 5+ and comes strapped with grenades.
@@mouthwide0pen It means anything with a 2+ save can't save but ap -7 makes it so even with cover it can't save so the appeal of it is that it's insane tank killing when something only has a 2+ save.
Hi, Auspex! Thank you for your video! Just one comment on Space Marines: the Space Marines' biggest weakness is that they don't have enough Lieutenant models, lol. No ,I'm just kidding. Thank you, Auspex!
Meganobz lost Dev Wounds to get 4+ inv save (*on waaagh)? I don't see it as an improvement. Or do they have both abilities? My codex is still preordered.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. We will be releasing a 20ft model for the small fee of 100,000$. Might include everything you need or might not. Haven't figured out quite how we would like to go about raw dogging the customer yet. -Sincerely GW. I'm new here does GW stand for GET wrecked wallet?😂😂😂
How can you win vs Big demons with necrons? They destroy ctans and wraiths with precision shalaxi and belakor's lone operative dont let you shoot with heavy lokhust/Doomsday arks/doomstalkers.
I mean, lore-wise, at their peaks, Necrons>Aeldari>Humanity>Krorks>/=Tyranids>Chaos Space Marines>>>>Tau. Daemons as their own faction are hard because of the fluctuating nature of Chaos and the specific circumstances of their summoning into realspace directly affecting their power. Seeing anything close to that tiering reflected on the tabletop makes me happy, even if just for lore nerd reasons 😅😁😂 Also, as a side note... *Exodites:* "Again... seriously?! We HAVE to be a f*cking joke to you! 🤬"
I love how the 1st company detachment for space marines wasn't even mentioned. Its so garbage that I am sorta surprised GW gave it the thumbs up. Only being able to use most of your army rules ONCE for a minor buff and only having strategems that target elite units with exetremly situational buffs is a really easy way to have a bad game. I can only see it working as a one trick counter for a very specific list.
Drukhari poison was a 9th edition specialty, they did away with it in 10th edition. However they did make poison rather potent in the one page rules Grimdark Future, but for warhammer 40k poison is gone... Hopeful they bring in a detachment that revitalizes this if and when we get some codex love.
As a world eater player if it wasn’t already obvious because of my profile pic I tend to just smash my units into my enemy and use jackels to take points for me. My friend hates this because he uses a shooty necron army and if my boys get in close he struggles to do anything to me. He wins more than I do by a little bit but he hates the feeling of half his army not being able to do anything 🤣
I got some 3D printed "outriders" but I guess a Landraider would make more sense for keeping mobile + charging. I played my first match using my friend's Orks against another Ork player and basically this guy uses massive Ork vehicles to carry his Boys & Beast Nagas around- he destroyed my friend's units. It wasn't even close to a fair fight thanks to his vehicles, I'm wondering how I'm even going to be able to counter this with my Blood Ravens even if I get a Landraider.

Never played this game. Watched the whole thing love the rundown 😂
Their have always been Ork custodians.
@@tgr3423 it's called One Page Rules ;) look it up, many people love it
Sounds neat. How's that working for you now? @@tgr3423
I’ve annihilated an entire squad if space marines with it in one go with it before.
ah yes, my favorite ad mech playstyle: bad
How the hell you know what Im looking for and give it to me without asking?! Witchcraft and heresy!
Not listing Biovore as a key unit for the 'Nids when the Biomine strat is between 10-20% of their current winrate is laughable, not to mention they can do decent damage outside of that. Auto-include for virtually any list.
Yeah, I'm surprised the spore mines have still escaped being slapped with a "this unit cannot perform secondaries" nerf.
@@MrShukaku1991 I think GW knows we would be unplayable without it propping up our winrate and are too lazy to actually fix the codex in return for getting rid of them.
Wonderful video, thank you very much :)
Side not from me: I would add the Biovore as the key unit for the tyranids. Without here it is very hard to score secondaries and win any games
This is the video i needed when i started
-Adeptus Custodes : super elite soldiers that are really hard to ki...ah wait, no, not anymore they aren't.
-Adeptus Custodes : super elite soldiers that are super good at punching above their weight...ah wait no, they took away our +1 to wound strat so we can't really kill tanks efficiently anymore...damn it, let's try again !
-Adeptus Custodes : super elite soldiers that are kinda cheap for what they d...what do you mean we're way more expensive than before the index???
...Ok, just don't play custodes.
hehe sounds to me like karma...custodes was quite a meta whore army and now it seems the table has turned :D
I saw people wining after codex, but the list was the worst part (canis rex + 3 calladius grav tanks + characters, how you said, If you want to play custodes, dont play them, use imperial knight with some random custodes characters to follow them xd
We, admech players, stand by you. 💪See you in V11
Poor Henry Cavill.
Good video for players looking to play the game :D
I've been researching to see which army my 1st 40k purchase will go towards and this channel (along with a few others) have been excellent sources.
Blessed Be!!!!!
I am always happy that I have found this channel!!!
As a extreme-noob , I desperately need guidance in the WH40K Realm.
Suspect Tactics is hands on in learning the chapters/factions/armies/legions .
Keep up the awesome work!!!!!
Be well
Be safe
This was amazing, and a great recap for someone looking to get back into competitive play
I've never played Warhammer, but the Space Wolves look awesome, I wish I had the money to buy a Bjorn the Fell-Handed just because he looks so awesome. But even if I did, *YOU CAN'T FUCKING BUY HIM IN AUSTRALIA.*
Ebay could work
Great video as always. I'm tired of beating this drum, but until The Hive Mind can develop ways of dealing with armor and/or high toughness, i don't see their win rate improving much of at all this edition. I still love them though!
Chaos knights can literally knight's move, jumping horizontally over other models. Nice.
I'm really getting a lot of mileage with a Sons of Sanguinius detachment LR Crusader, 6 Aggressors, Grav Capt, and Biologis.
Yay for not forgetting grey knights!!!
Who'd have thought that the god types in the game have rules to match. It's not constant across the range.
The non-codex compliant can't take certain units though so there is a trade off. Like space wolves can't take a bunch of units including apothercaries
Only Grey Knights Strike Squads have the sticky objective ability. The Interceptor Squad can move far, up to 18” and 24” if using a strat, but do not have the sticky icky objective ability.
Love this video. A good way to know what everyone has and what to watch out for with my army.
Man, I wish the CSM had more shooty options. Just to balance it out more. I kinda hate the idea that GW has decided Chaos = Melee. Though I guess I'm more appropriately asking for an updated Defiler, and/or a Predator refresh.
Deathwatch is actually on 36:43
38:24 being Death Guard's review
I love that AT's videos cater for new and returning players as much as veterans, every one is useful.
PEDRO KANTOR MENTIONED 👊
I like armies without too many models to pick from. I settled on the Votann because a) ROCK AND STONE and b)they have a decent range but not overwhelming. what other armies come into that category?
Custodes for sure, idk about others.
Imperial/Chaos Knights, and from what I hear grey knights, custodes, thousand sons, death guard, and world eaters as well.
@@hardcorelace7565 if I picked up Custodes I'd need to come up with a new colour scheme as I really don't like gold
@@nunyabusiness7018 I love the idea of playing Chaos, TS would probably be my pick but I'm interested in Emperor's Children too
@@therobotFrom94 there's a couple of really cool non gold ones, like the shadowkeeper black/purple looks great!
Christ man, do you even sleep?
He’s the man!!!
when i hear necrons are the top faction in 40k it just sparks a smile in my face
Man you are puuumping out vids at the moment mate. Well in!
Deathwing termies are good. 5 more points than normal termies and you ignore hit modifiers and can run a plasma cannon!
Guys, ATTENTION!!!
AUSPEX FORGOT ABOUT HIS CHANNEL. *he probably didn't give us new video in 5 min*
It's amazing how Space marines have the lowest WR.
They're below *Ad-Mech*
Only for the generic no brand marines though. Take any legendary character or unique chapter and those rates go up
The problem is that space marines is by far and away the most popular newbie faction.
Plagueburst has indirect
I shudder when my opponent puts three plagueburst tanks on the field. They instantly become priority targets due to indirect fire.
Please let Night Lords get Raptors and Warp Talons as battleline in the codex
Even the longest range Grey Knights shooter is short.
I really think the lion and gulliman should be 300 points compared to ctan and demon primarchs they’re just not as good for their points cost
adeptus custodes is wrong now :(
Just to point out on Death Guard that Purifier's foul infusion makes their meltas the strongest on table top for example they can make them ap-6 (ap-7 if you pick -1 to save spread the sickness) and ignore cover and they lethal hit on 5s for the entire plague marine unit is very terrifying for certain tanks like Rogal dorns who don't have a invuln.
Question for you. Do you ever use a land raider or just rhinos? If you do use a land raider do you have a suggestion on what should go in it?
@@wolfgangstallionmusic5639 Dependant on what you want, if it's melee land raider if it's range rhino because it's cheaper.
im gonna be honest i dont quite see the application of 6 ap
theres a point you get to where ap stops mattering much
@@mouthwide0pen It means anything with a 2+ save can't save but ap -7 makes it so even with cover it can't save so the appeal of it is that it's insane tank killing when something only has a 2+ save.
They lost their ability to kill things but gained the ability to not be killed (easily) in the WAAGH
Admech (In theory) : Shooting and shooting, use battleline/C-electro priest to finish secondary
Admech (For real) : GO CHICKEN GOO~
NOT FUN, NOT FUNNY AT ALL🙄
40k AdMech really doesnt hold a candle to 30k. Wheres my god damned 20ft robots GW?!

How can you win vs Big demons with necrons? They destroy ctans and wraiths with precision shalaxi and belakor's lone operative dont let you shoot with heavy lokhust/Doomsday arks/doomstalkers.
It still perplexes me that dreadnoughts don't have an invuln.
We are All(pharius).
Seeing anything close to that tiering reflected on the tabletop makes me happy, even if just for lore nerd reasons 😅😁😂
Also, as a side note...
*Exodites:* "Again... seriously?! We HAVE to be a f*cking joke to you! 🤬"
"Space Marines, the poster boys of the Imperium."
Cracked me up
The whole idea of adding imperial agents to only imperial armies breaks the game. they should be available to all factions
Oh goody, I still don't know how to play my army even tho I have almost 4k points!
HOW
Alot to go through here
I love how the 1st company detachment for space marines wasn't even mentioned. Its so garbage that I am sorta surprised GW gave it the thumbs up. Only being able to use most of your army rules ONCE for a minor buff and only having strategems that target elite units with exetremly situational buffs is a really easy way to have a bad game. I can only see it working as a one trick counter for a very specific list.
space wolves?
Drukhari poison was a 9th edition specialty, they did away with it in 10th edition. However they did make poison rather potent in the one page rules Grimdark Future, but for warhammer 40k poison is gone... Hopeful they bring in a detachment that revitalizes this if and when we get some codex love.
That's what the [ANTI-INFANTRY 3+] on half of their weapons is meant to represent.
Admech, I play with my wallet 😅
Eventually instead of minis Ad Mech will just use gold tokens on the table to simulate the cost of the army :P
Wraiths are not scary just annoying because they just don't kill anything, still love em though
Ill take the 47% win rate of the blood angels
