And that's why Supreme commander will forever be my number 1 RTS ever. Now Beyond all reason is here and it's great. When sanctuary:shattered suns drop it's going to be GAME MF OVER for the RTS space
@@pHixiq We will see. It takes a long time for an RTS to smooth out the rough edges and make it great in esports. Nothing against sanctuary though, I am looking forward to it as well.

35:50 can we just appreciate for a second how crazy cool animated these Heavy Guns are? The barrel glowing red of the heat. Even tho its a super mass battle RTS with Thousands of Units at the same time of the field, the devs had so much love for their units that they animated such details in there. Just blows my mind.
Wow. I'm only a few hours in to research on Beyond All Reason after finding out about it the other day, and it looks really interesting. I had a pretty bad time with the default experience on the client I downloaded to test out, but after seeing that this is the kind of thing that's possible (actual significant innovation in the RTS genre!), I'll give it a more thorough second try than I was intending. It's been years since I played SupCom, and I was never very good at it and never played multiplayer, so I'm glad this kind of content exists. The camera looks incredible on this.
Hey Willow, I've seen few of your Supreme Commander Forged Alliance casts and now this one of this awesome BAR game. You are an amazing caster Willow. I can see you are passionate about these RTS games and boy oh boy you are on fire with your commentary. Thank you for so much entertainment and quality videos! :)
Nukes get shot down very close to their silo. So at 30:30 the nuke was FROM Fontaine not AT him. It's just that static anti nukes fire really early as soon as the enemy is targeting their area. So look closer to where that nuke has been shot down, instead of on the other side. It's a bit counter intuitive. Also, Raghna couldn't fire his nuke when it was about to die, coz the Thors have EMP missiles, and it just got hit by one. Thors are often prefered to Titans as the experimental unit of choice for Armada exactly because of that EMP missile capability of the Thors. That bouncy lightning gun is also amazing.
47:10 Logic behind selfdestruct is that in BAR when you selfdestruct units or buildings they don't leave a wreck (commanders still do tho) So if you have a damaged unit behind enemy lines it might be worth so selfdestruct it so it does not get rezurrected. Also MANY things explode more violently with self+d, that includes metal extractors, factories, light laser towers, fiends, mobile bombs, juggernauts and probably more that i didn't just see myself or test. also i think fiends do leave wrecks behind.... but well not 100% sure
Being a huge fan of Total Annihilation, this game looks just as I had hoped a new TA game would look. I'm so glad someone stepped up to to the plate to take a nostalgic swing again. I was never a fan of Supreme Commander. Felt way different and just didn't sit the same. Do we know if they plan to allow modding communities to create units and maps?
@@WillowsDuality Do you use a controller to get those camera shots? Because if that's mouse and keyboard, that is the smoothest M+K camera control I have ever seen!
I like the high energy casting! Subbed and looking forward to future videos. I do wanna say tho, rotating the camera is a big pet peeve of mine for rts, as it can be really disorienting, but I would be curious to hear what others think
Hello, you ask in the middle of the video why do they self destruct units. This is mainly because 1. they dont leave any metal if so and 2. the death explosion radius is much larger I believe (titans, juggernauts and other T3 heavy weights self destruct with a nuke)
If you don't know who a unit belongs to, simply click it in TV mode and the view mode will switch to that player (you will see the name above the team UI change). You can also force icon display during hidden UI by disabling "hide when UI is hidden", and then change icon view distance to a very high one for the cinematic views of the battle field.
The logic behind the Self Destructs is that they don't leave wreckage that can be harvested. I noticed the Thors they SD'd were either far behind enemy lines or were almost dead anyways.
As always I really enjoy your casts, especially BaR ones but in such large team games it would be better to use teams colors instead of players colors in my opinion. I also have a bit problem with joystick camera movement. Overall I love that idea and it seems really nice but sometimes it's actually quite hard to focus on things ,maybe it's a bitrate problem, not sure. I'm not trying to be mean or rude but some improvements would be make your casting even better
Yeah, rotating cameras in rts are a peeve of mine as well. As far as the team colors, maybe it would help you out to know that one side is warm colors and the other side is cool. Also I think the colors are sorted by ranking as well
The Self destruct on the thors was probably because they were already low health, and for everything (I think) except coms if you SD it doesn't leave a body behind to revive. And don't quote me on this but I think sometimes it also has a bigger explosion if you sd instead of dying.
bro wtf. this already looked better than SC1/FA & 2 combined. i just started playing the tutorial last night and i didnt know that the multiplayer matches can be this epic.
I have no control over that. Beyond all reason isn't in the game library on youtube. UA-cam automatically chose the game at ransome since I put it int the gaming category
When self destructing a unit it will not leave a corpse. So they can't revive it and they can't reclaim it for metal. So if you have a big unit about to die deep behind enemy lines you can self destruct so they can't use the corpse to rebuild before you get back.
@@WillowsDuality wow, so cool... although I prefer OTA, I'll try this one for sure. I also prefer SupCom (love it, as OTA), but this game seems to be pretty fun. Is it free to download and play? Is there a forum like FAF one? I used to play OTA at Warzone, but that were the old and good days :)
I don't get so much from watching BAR. I came for 16vs16 and stayed for the Koom Valley reference - A nod to Terry Pratchett's Discworld. It's the location for the start of the long standing feud between Dwarves and Trolls, both sides blame the other for starting it and battles keep happening there.
2 commanders = one people didn't connect so an other guy took his commander too so the team isn't at a disadvantage (even though that guy with 2 commanders has to micro a lot more, at least initially, but also has double the resources and building power).

Great commentary. It would be great if you could orient the camera the same direction as the map. Most of this video you have the main camera going the opposite direction of the minimap. It's a bit disorienting that way. If you just flipped the main camera around that would be so much better.
rotating camera is bad idea, it makes it hard to compare which side is more progressing toward the others territory; on minimap player can be on right, while on main view he is on left, its just super confusing
this would have been a lot easier to follow if you'd tried to keep the reds on the left rather than blue, to match the minimap, but otherwise great stuff and an epic fight, more please
Coming from Supreme Commander, I don't like how demoted the commanders are. They were always a source of a lot of drama and action. And nukes are very underwhelming(The slow nukes with powerful and long-lasting explosions and fallouts really expressed a lot of terror of nukes). Ability to observe the battlefield without all the range and sight indicators would be nice to reduce visual noise.

Nice commentary its not easy to keep it flowing for an hour👍
Glad you liked it
I remember having so many units on the map in the original that my game would lag. The faster shorter range bots are good for flanking in mass
If you click on a unit in spectator mode it tells you their name in the bottom left.
It's a bit confusing when you show the map upside down, with the camera in the north pointing south and not in alignment with the minimap
thought this was a modded supreme commander. looks like a cool game, gonna check it out.
Those are some smooth camera transitions, well done.

self destruct seems to not leave the thors bodies behind for the metal deny I think
Self destruct prevents there being a corpse to revive deep in enemy territory for them to use against you later
As i remember if you self destuct a unit, there is no metal left, that can be picked up by the enemy
Self destructed units don't leave wrecks, so they can't be rezzed.

Great game. You camera view was upside down from the mini map. made it hard to follow.
self destructing doesn't leave a corpse to res or salvage
