Watching contemporary sketch comedies, I rarely find myself wishing for any one of them to go on longer. Usually, I’m looking for the exit sign long before the scene ends. Not so with Caesar and his dream team of writers and co-stars. “Aggravation Boulevard” is just one of many I wanted to keep going: “Emergency”, “On the Dock”, and, of course, “This Is Your Story”- I could go on, but it’s a long list. Miracles like YSOS only come once- gifts contrived by us, for us. You know, Art.
Special? Did this every week! That's what's so amazing, imagine doing this live, with a live orchestra, in font of an audience with new material, week and after week after week??
I had to stop this video at least three times because Sid's voice had me laughing so much. This was absolutely brilliant. It had just the right amount of silly and just the right amount of pathos. Even with seeing some of the jokes coming a mile a way, this is probably one of the most satisfying half hours of television I've ever watched and probably one of the best episodes Sid and his crew ever wrote! :)
I LAUGH so hard and very funny sketch. John Gilbert famous movie actor from silent film era could not make it in the new movies of sound because of his voice. It was high pitch. Sid Caesar was great in this comedy routine.
Had never seen the whole sketch until just now. HILARIOUS!! Truly great performers. There was "Sunset Blvd." and "Singing in the Rain" stuff here. Masterful.
Totally brilliant! You know Sid Caesar is going to sound ridiculous when you first hear him....and it's STILL funny. A really good spoof on John Gilbert, whose voice wasn't THAT squeaky, but it was pretty high-pitched. This kind of comedy is golden. I'm surprised Carl Reiner and the rest of the cast didn't crack up when Sid started speaking.
It`s Like when Furguson was keeping David Beckham away from talking after games then he could not hold out anymore and they let him talk, man I spit my beer out of my mouth when I heard him ! funny as fuck lol
There will never be comedy of this grand level again !!
It was the first and still the best which is pretty sad when you think about it.

There is no TV like this in 2018... AND IT WAS LIVE!~!~!!!
Imagine the immense complexity of performing this whole thing as a live special - the camera placement - cues - costume changes - incredible!!!

It’s all so incredible. What’s sad is the apex of TV comedy was over 70 years ago.
HILARIOUS! The geniosity of Sid Caesar...no other like him ever!!!

I’ve seen this at least a dozen times and I laugh to the point of tears every time.
Carl Reiner desperately trying not to laugh when Sid Caesar is telling him off.
😊
OMG! This sketch really holds up in this 21st Cen. I was laughing my butt off. Hahahaha.

This is the John Gilbert story as well as many others.
Brilliant and timeless!
I will bet that Billy Wilder laughed his ass off when he saw this.
Caesar as Lina Lamont with some Norma Desmond thrown in for good measure. A laugh until you ache classic.
Susan Nunes I can’t stop laughing and aching.....how I am typing this with the tears in my eyes, ??? This entertainment is PRICELESS
This is the first time I have seen the complete sketch.. Never seen anything funnier.... Wow...

The hardest thing in the world for the writers was how to END a sketch. This one was pretty good.
