SID CAESAR: Nan Hires a Maid [THE COMMUTERS] (CAESAR'S HOUR, Jan 17 1955)
Another classic full sitcom-length "Commuters" sketch, Sid's answer to "The Honeymooners". In this sketch, Nan decides to hire a maid-- who turns out to be a lusciously beautiful young blonde. The maid is played by one of the quintessential dumb blondes of the 1950s and 1960s, Barbara Nichols, hilarious as always. Nichols appeared many times on the Jack Benny Show as his low class sometime-girlfriend, stealing every show was in!

SID CAESAR: The Principal's Office (CAESAR'S HOUR - VERY rare sketch!)

SID CAESAR: Vacant Holsters [SPOOF] (CAESAR'S HOUR - VERY rare sketch!)

A spoof of Western movies centering on Sid as a near-sighted gunslinger. The extended middle section with the extended shots from a, well, unusual camera angle are a riot. This copy comes courtesy of a fellow Sid Caesar fan from Europe who recorded a couple of hours of the reruns, which haven't been seen on TV for over 25 years. Thank you, Richard! SID CAESAR: Argument to Beethoven's Fifth [PANTOMIME] (CAESAR'S HOUR, Dec 27 1954)

Nanette Fabray really shines here, in a sketch that shows that Imogene Coca wasn't the only woman who could hold her own in a pantomime sketch with Sid Caesar. Every moment here is perfect, every emotion perfectly communicated and in perfect synchronization to the music. SID CAESAR: Break Your Brains [SPOOF] (CAESAR'S HOUR, Apr 16 1957)
Переглядів 32 тис.7 років тому
An absolutely hilarious sketch spoofing the big money game shows of the 1950s, co starring Carl Reiner and Pat Carroll. This is brilliantly written, and brilliantly performed. Sid Caesar's ability to spout of so much specific, technical dialogue in his answers is amazing, especially since there's no evidence at ALL that he's reading cue cards. Carl Reiner keeps the entire sketch moving along at...

SID CAESAR: Shadow Waltz [MUSICAL] (CAESAR'S HOUR, Feb 14 1955)
Переглядів 7 тис.7 років тому
In this great spoof of light operettas, Sid struggles to play the part of the dashing romantic figure he's expected to be, while Nanette does her best to cover his gaffes. Nanette Fabray doesn't get nearly the credit she deserves, having the thankless role of following the unfollowable Imogene Coca. But in sketches like this one, she shows she was often every bit as effective a foil for Sid as ...

SID CAESAR: Slowly I Turned (YOUR SHOW OF SHOWS - VERY rare sketch)
Someone needs to steal this joke. Mel Brooks was beyond the curve.
Not diggin that he’s into hunting, but back then that’s just how it was. Aside from that, this was a cool clip to see Sid just being a family man.
No cue card reading, no political humor, no lame acting. This was during the golden age of TV. I’m watching Sid Caesar for the first time. I’ve known of him all my life but never watched his TV show. The clips of his variety show are very funny.
Nannette Fabray crossing her eyes after she got hit by the door had me LMAO! Too funny.
“Jeffrey was a spoiled son of a..wealthy family!” That was a riot cuz it sounded like she was gonna say the other thing. Ha.
This is the funniest sh** I’ve watched in a long time. 69 years ago and it’s still funny. When something is funny, it’s funny forever. The “dancing” segment is a riot. 😂
I don't know who the announcer was but I'm pretty sure he was the announcer for a radio show too, maybe the Jack Benny show,
I don’t like to see dead deer on the wall. I hate hunting men like most of my cousins. My father hated hunting too Remember 1920’s through 1970’s 1980’s 1990’s maybe till today. I hate to see trophy dead animal dead or dead tiger rug on the floor like Dead White Polar Bear rug. I hate it the most in my life. Gladly I married non hunting guy but his half brothers and brother in law still hunting lots of preys. Sid great comedian showing his Park Ave apartment with his family interview Mr Morrow during 1950’s.
Good show from 1954
One of the greatest sketches in history. Brilliant talents.
Carl Reiner is the ultimate straight man.
I'm so happy that I have seen this work of art for the first time. I have not laughed this hard in ages. Just brilliant 😂❤❤ Amazing that those men were all veterans and became some of the most hilarious humans ever. Thank you for sharing this.
The subtitles (are they computer-created?) contain the line for Carl Reiner that he bought the bullets "for peanuts". I think he said "at the PX".
Hilarious! ❤❤❤❤
So much in this world that I have finally seen, and so much more that is yet to be seen- and not nearly enough time to watch all of it.
I can see that The Carol Burnett Show was inspired by Your Show of Shows.
Sid Caesar skits are very funny.
Racing with the Moon....hilarious...VAUGN MONROE....only the fabulous Sid
i did not realize that in those days Sid Caesar was so young born in 1922 . Miss Coca on the other hand was born in 1908 . I always thought being on early TV meant you around the age of Red Skelton or Jackie Gleason .
An Englishman does not "Click his Heels" But it has been done to me twice in Germany. (Englishman)
At least the old buzzard didn't stash the cash under a giant W.
What I love about these Caesar clips is that they have the over-the-top zaniness of the orignal Kurtzman "Mad Magazines"
Post war syndrome.
Is that m’boy Thurl singing?
Wow, he looks like James Gandolfini in the thumbnail.
Why is it rare?
Nothing before or after has ever come close to the brilliance of these skits. Sheer genius!
It represent the invasion of amateurs msusicians into the music scene in the 50s.. The children are still in charge.
I was losing it when I saw they were actually going to dunk poor Imogene in a tank of water! Anything for a laugh. Their physical comedy went above and beyond. And Sid's adlib about the door and his fiancee was brilliant.
I hope Howie Morris got paid really well for all the abuse he took in these skits!
As much as I love all the regulars on YSOS, I have to say that Paul Douglas stole the show for me here. Not only were his delivery and timing perfect, but he'd either memorized so many lines in just a few days' time, or he adlibbed a great deal, either of which is brilliant. And capped off by his actual twirling of Howie Morris overhead in the end! Wow. 😄 Thanks for posting!
Carl Reiner called this sketch the best, funniest comic sketch ever written for television. Period.
Oh, they have Pee Wee Herman with the bowtie on asking the chairman a question.
Some restaurant experiences are almost like this!
Ashamedly, my dad was a hardcore antisemite. But he never missed an episode of Sid Caesar’s Show of Shows while enjoying the entire hour. He was aware of Sid’s religion, but never uttered a bigoted word about him. Maybe this illustrates that bigotry must be consciously manifested.
This was absolutely charming, and I'm especially impressed with how pretty Imogene looks here. Which proves my suspicions that she usually made herself look goofier than she naturally was, for comedic effect. She's downright comely and adorable here.
Now that's what I call a percussion section! Absolutely brilliant and thoroughly absorbing. I was totally caught up in every movement.
I love the twist of Imogene's plain young lady rejecting Sid's picky suitor. I was not expecting that, and it was a very pleasant, and funny, surprise.
"Vacant Holsters" begat "Blazing Saddles"? Mel had to have written this one. 😂
Bravissimo to Sid and backstage pianist Earl Wild. Their coordination on this adds an extra dimension of amazing.
An economic paradigm based on xenophobic aggression must be masked by ubiquitous amnesia . This style of performance is extremely grating on my nerves .
Once saw Howard Morris in the Burbank Costco early 90's and when he saw a couple of us in the aisle he started doing shtick.
😂😂😂😂😂 we always watched this and the writers were awesome.
Over 40 here and still looks like a teenager - I just love this skit!
Of course, in the broken wall scene, I thought immediately of the scene from "My Favorite Year," and I can't help wondering if the writers of that movie made a point of having King Kaiser doing the same as an homage to this "On the Docks" scene.
I love how all the YSOS sketches build to a crescendo of hilarity. And Sid's faux Francais is absolutely brilliant.
Was that actually Carl Reiner singing? If so, he had a nice voice!
My favorite part of this whole wonderful spoof is when Imogene turns her head twice to hide herself cracking up. It's also amazing how quickly she recovered both times. That's a professional.
Is it just a coincidence that Sid Caesar's lucky wig kind of resembled Harpo's in the front, and the sketch then proceeded in a very Marx Brothers manner? I tend to think not. Really wonderful. 😂
All through this wonderful sketch, I couldn't stop thinking about Neil Simon's "Murder by Death" several decades after this but so similar. I believe he was also on the show's writing staff, and seems to have a penchant for murder mysteries (he also wrote "The Cheap Detective"). I couldn't help wondering if his imprint was on this.
