I just bought a boat moored in Lake Macquarie (Wangi). I had no idea how big this lake was, I think I counted 5 days at the southern end of your tour. I'm still exploring. This was helpful, thanks. And I'm starting to think I should have bought a boat with less sail and draught and more engine lol.
Shame you didn't get to go further around into the western side Norm, you would have seen Bonnells Bay and maybe even have gotten down into Dora Creek to the jetty there near the shops.
Yeah mate. had planned to pick Wombi up in Dora Creek, but my mate picked her up at Fassifern. No worries dude I'll put it on the list for the trip back north. Maybe the entrance will be dredged too.
what is that black quad circle thingo you have on the mast rope ? ,and could you sho us how you use what i guess is the anchor snubber ?!?! happy sailing
Yeah dude. I think you are referring to my anchor ball. It is a day shape to indicate that you are anchored during daylight hours. Part of the International rules for safety at sea. Not a lot of dudes bother. Guess I'm a traditionalist. Talked to a dude once who was asleep at anchor and another boat ran into him. When he rang about insurance they asked "Were you displaying the correct day shape?" He answered he didn't know what they meant. Made the claim a lot harder to be settled. So now you at least know what it means dude. Thanks for asking.
Not really dude. Maritime pulled up next to us in Port Hacking and we had a chat. he was a very nice guy. I think that if you are genuinely in transit and moving regularly, there shouldn't be a problem.
Hey Norm, loving all these episodes. Mate; what happened to the electric outboard you purchased some episodes back to replace the Honda? I note your dog is named Teddy. I had a Doberman Pincer my father was given during his stay in France back in 1955. His name was Teddy. I loved that dog which was sadly killed some three years after I got him. It broke my heart mate and I could not bear to have another dog until 1976 when I bought a German Shepherd and a Doberman Pincer. I loved those two dogs. My GS however died aged 9 years of spinal cancer in 1985, and my Dobie died aged 6 years of Leukemia the following year. I cannot bring myself to own another dog/s. Losing them is gut wrenching. Cheers mate. Kind regards to Wombie!
I would love to cruise the lake, but sadly my keel boat is denied access due to silting of the Chanel at Swansea. Has this been allowed to happen though neglect or is there a hidden agenda to keep the lake free from tourism?
Not sure dude. Some of the locals say they want to weld the bridge shut (jokingly). To keep tourists out. Dredging is supposed to be happening soon. It's a great destination.
If they let more deeper keel boats in Belmont would have better yacht racing..... My understanding was that back in 98 or around that time . The plan was to make that happen back then.... Shouldn't skull drag ya boat through this just to race the off shore races. Puts to much stress in the rigs. So to hear it's still like this is a joke. It's a great place... To live .... Big good day to all the local's . Old timer you take care and stay safe from mother nature's bad ones in your travels and keep up whatever keeps the heart floating out there!!!!!!!
@@coreyhinchey393 Yes Corey, Also I noticed some lovely keel boats in Norms Video that I would expect to exit the lake should they be able to do so. Selling such a vessel would also be easier.
One of the boats I used to race on was born up the north end of the lake.... Was made out of Australian ceda... It was called Odds On but has been re named rebel and it's painted white know not a timber finish like it used to be.... Think it's moored near Toronto along there. Down hill flyer,33,6 feet and would over take 50 footers downwind. Won Pittwater to Coffs race in 88 the year it was built. Some of those keel boats may never get out if they don't do something about it.. Been great watching the trip around the lake with some drone footage. Do a great job . Take care and stay safe ...
Another great little cruise. Thanks Norm🤙
Thanks for watching dude

Enjoy your adventures Ahmed. The lake is great.
You are getting more famous by the day. I sailed into the lake planning on a 2 week stay. Ended up there for 3 months. Great spot to explore
For sure dude. Great facilities and plenty of sheltered anchorages.

@@MotorSailingforOldDudes Goodo bud, though I have big doubts about dredging getting done before you get back.

Just curious .

mmmmm did i miss something? thought you went electric on the dinghy... ?!?
Yeah Dude I have. it's just that the long vids and the Shorts are a little out of sinc. The next video shows the outboard change.

Yeah Dude. The dogs don't live long enough. Great mates though.
nice video, how do you know if a mooring is public or private?
The public ones have a yellow tag on them explaining their use.
What happened to the electric motor on your tender ?
Still There dude. Just that the vids and shorts are a little out of sink. The motor swap is next up.
