Interesting that people can have completely different ideas on how to get jewys, whats good whats bad but its all personal preference really.

Thanks for sharing your tips. Hoping to catch my first Lake Macquarie jewfish. I noticed you didn't mention barometer readings. Do you think this has a influence on the bite patterns.

Yes fish get a little lazy on a low barometer but in saying that they still have to eat i have a watch with a barometer very handy.

I'm new to the dew fishing and to the lake Macquarie system I usually fish Tuross heads never gone up your way.
For someone new like myself what end of the lake would you think to fish this time of the year and at what depth.
I'm thinking of going to the lake in the coming weeks and would like some help.
I would love to catch a dew.
I've seen videos of the lake and also the river and again have no idea where to start.
The other thing I'm trying to work out is where to stay at a caravan park and it would be great to have one close to the area to fish.
If you could help me I would much appreciate it.

@Braiden Adams thxs so much for your reply.
I got back from there last Wednesday with not much success.
Damaged my outboard pretty bad on the last day trying the Hunter river.
Not sure when or if I will be back but if I visit again I will take your advice.

@regkershaw how did you damage your outboard mate? Just trying to learn as I'm planning on buying a tinny this year to rig up for fishing and want to know what to look out for.
      Cheers 🍻

@HanginOffThaReel mate I tried fishing the Hunter river and I guess didn't notice the big drop in the tide and followed the gps line on the finder I had previously went over in the middle of the river and hit something hard.
      I guess it was rock.
Tore skeg off totally stuffed the prop and put a big hole in the gearbox.
      $3500 cost.
All fixed now hopefully heading back to Lake macquarie soon

@@regkershaw ahhhh, far out mate that's unlucky! I really hope you have a clear and good time this time round and everything stays sweet as. Thanks for pointing my eye out to that. I would've thought you'd always be clear in the middle of the river. Cheers Reg.

All experienced-based fishing is worthy of trying to understand for anglers learning how things tick. I have friends that favour moons and tides that vary with both promising results - great points made, and i personally have found that different bait sources relate to different water movements - there are no incorrect answers if fish are being landed / boated. I favour live bait in my system as i am land based. That correlates with a specific tide movement, and time - and moon stage. Its not guaranteed or perfect. My boaty mates follow other forms of bait, other tide movements, and other moons. Its subjective to what you are doing. I love high tides at night, around a full moon in the system i fish with live Tailor, or Herring - Mullet if able to be caught and the landbased spots are deep and close. I have boat based friends whos recipe is almost the inverse - and it works deadly for them. A complex amount of info - that you as an angler need to figure out your patterns as per your approach.
Great video and a very well presented approach, your speakong was not awkward but insightful. \m/
