NORWEGIAN? Now wait just one lutefisk minute! WE aren't taking the blame for that one...
😂😂😂
😂Don't blame you, lol. No one wants to claim him😅
On behalf of my ancestors....
...both Ireland and Germany refute any claim that he is related to either one in any way.
Can we blame Alpha Centauri?
He is just a mental shape shifter.
Poor George Santos is the butt of all these jokes. I bet he regrets inventing TV now.
😂😂😂
🤣🤣😂😂😅😅 I am going to keep thinking of your comment and laughing for many days to come. It will only seem inappropriate to the people outside my head.
He also regrets inventing jokes.
He regrets discovering and identifying the feeling of regret.
He has a PhD in all of the above 😂😂😂
Actually no country on earth wants to take the blame for Santos.😁
I say we blame the Prussians!
Prussia? Really I mean get it with the fancy uniforms and but there's no way he can even capable of dreaming such a magnificent mustache. Beside, he reeks of Lemuria like no one else. (Really hoping people get the joke)
No country for alt man. (Alternative reality man )
Let's blame Mars.
But only the USA would vote for him. 😂
I'd like to say we're sorry in the name of all Brazilians
Oh, it's definitely not Brazil's fault. That guy is just wackadoo.
We don’t blame you!
i would say the US still has some payback to attone to for the 60s and 70s
so they can deal with another 10 or 299 Santos
And I'd like to say we're sorry in the name of all Americans. He may have come from your colorful and rich country but we're the ones who let others put him on a pedestal.
Also @victoriaeads6126 calling this guy a wackadoo is an insult to actual wackadoo's from Brazil.
I'm not joking either, in 2012 alone they candidates named Rambo, Wolverine, and Obama all running for office and playing into the names.
The forgotten Hispanos.
As a Norwegian I am vetoing that last joke.
So we can agree that he's a hot potato nobody wants to hold.
it won't bother George WASHINGTON Santos, he is from Space
@@VoltisArtSir, that blatant disrespect for potatoes is offensive for people of Irish descent.
As a Brazilian I wonder ... WHAT JOKE? 🤔 😂
🤣🤣 Antonio Banderas in Puss in Boots? No... a cat. That one really got me.
I thought Santos was spawned from the ground by dark magic like an Uruk-Hai.
Uruk-Hai and Parak-Hai are both Hispanic and Latino, right?
Even Sauron or Saruman would deny taking the blame for Santos.
😂
Oi! Don't be calling George Norwegian. We don't deserve that! Call him a Marsian, so no one on Earth need be shamed for having birthed him.
You mean Martian.
Then the martians will come out of hiding and start a war with us for blaming them? I don't think that's a good idea man!
Catfish. Bottom. Feeder. Lol.
That comment might make Marvin, "Very, very angry."
Marsian. That’s creative!
Yay!!! Loved this segment. We need more Hispanic and Latino representation everywhere. 🇨🇴
Not everywhere... we pretty well represented in Latin America. If anything I say there is too much of us.
@@MagaldiMateus😂😂😂😅
You’re represented everywhere in the U.S.
Especially Republican Hispanics and Latinos....
Absolutely! Beautiful people, Amazing cultures. In the U.S., they have had a very positive impact on our society, and we are all now better for it.
Felipe stepped out of his comfort zone and ROCKED IT! 🎉🤩👏
This was educational and exceptionally funny.
@@vailpcs4040 Too bad it was incomplete and somewhat inaccurate.
Felipe do another segment!!
Care to elaborate?
I loved this segment and, correct me if I'm wrong, it could be a knock-on effect from the writers' strike that makes it clear that programming wouldn't be as good as it is without the writers, so, giving the writers both their due in pay and in exposure seems like a good thing in the long term. Good on you, Stephen!
Great way to look at it ... TY
"He is a cat" nearly killed me 😂
Quick! Save yourself! Kill the cat with curiosity! Here, use this: ❓️
El Gato?
Damn, that segment was good! Ended too soon, man! 😂
Did you hear the applause surge after he sat down? Union solidarity, hombre.
That was very helpful! Thanks for the info guys
always nice when these segments can be educational as well as entertaining
When he hit Stephen with the "si se puede"! 😂👏
This was awesome! More please!
So to clarify, would that make Santos Scandinavian, Nordic, or both? 😀
Both, but as a Norwegian we are not taking the blame for that one!!
Both!
Scandinavia is a more complicated term. Most often it means the continental mainlands of the kingdoms Norway, Sweden, Denmark. Not including relatively distant colonies like Greenland. Although sometimes Island and the Faeroe islands are included due to the ethnical heritage and linguistic relationship.
However… Sometimes Scandinavia refers to the nations, or the parts thereof, that are located on the Scandinavian peninsula: Norway, Sweden, (northern) Finland. One can argue that small areas of northern Russia also is part of the Scandinavian peninsula, but in general Russia is excluded.
However, since Denmark for long ruled the southernmost part of the peninsula: Scania. Denmark is then included for that reason.
But whatever the definition, Norway is an obvious part of Scandinavia.
The Nordic nations have a more clear definition since there is a “Nordic council”: an inter-parliamentary political entity constituted by the sovereign states of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden; the autonomous territories of the Faroe Islands and Greenland; and the autonomous region of Åland.
Although since Brazil is neither a Scandinavian or Nordic nations, Santos is also neither.
More Felipe! Dude is hilarous 😂
I thought Sen. John Fetterman was going to do the teaching and it would have been hilarious
I’m Brazilian and I support not getting the blame for George Santos 😅
George calling the reporter disingenuous is a classic🎉
Classic Projection
Stephen sure thinks on his feet.
Thanks for the education Felipe. I've never wondered about this because I never knew there was a difference, so it's good to know.
This guy is awesome. More of this guy! Huzzah Felipe! 🌆🗽🌆
although, _technically,_ the term Hispanic is derived from Hispania, the Roman name for the Iberian Peninsula which contains both Spain and Portugal. In fact, in 1985, Rep. Tony Coelho (of Portuguese descent) was able to join the Congressional Hispanic Caucus on these grounds.
Hispania was only Spain. Portugal was Lusitania. The entire peninsula is known as Iberia.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hispania
Hispanic: Spanish speaking (Because Spain was once Hispania)
Latino: Speaks a Romance language (Languages derived from Latin such as Spanish, French, Portuguese, etc)
Latinoamericano: Speaks a Romance language in the American continent
Well yea, but normally no one calls
a Romanian a Latino or
a French Canadian a Latinoamericano.
@@MB-rn4ul True, but just because it's not normally called that way, doesn't mean it isn’t. But I get your point. 🙂
Such nonsense. Do you call Anglos people from any English speaking country and then add to that a specific ethnicity just because of the language? Thought so.
Anya Taylor Joy would have been a perfecto example for this game
It’s NEVER LatinX
I can't even keep the difference between mayo and miracle whip straight in my noggin.
Thats the same sh*t, but some people act like they were something different.Just like...nvm
Personally, I prefer to avoid any condiments being placed in my noggin.
Have you ever looked at the way mayo is made?
HAHA I cant be bothered with the difference between butter and margarine, they both spread on bread so meh 🙂
PS: this includes my own ancestry which like most people is multi national from different parts of the globe but is just a long way of saying we are all from the planet earth.
These condiments all look the same to me 😂😂😂. They all can be used for grilled cheese though.
Me reí tan fuerte con lo del gato! No esperaba eso 😂😂😂
Kudos to all the late night shows that feature their talented writers on screen from time to time.
No. That is why they are writers. They are not on- screen talents.
"cuz we're not taking the blame for that guy" 😆😆
Easiest & most BASIC way to remember
Hispanic = includes Spain
Latino = doesn’t include Spain
Bunch of made up crap. We're not interested in siding with members of the caucasian race and African race. We are native american to our whole continent 🌎
@@hundredfireify Portugal isn't Spain
Totally wrong. Hispanic = Spanish speaking countries, even if it originally meant from Hispania a province in the Roman empire.
Latino = In reality any country that was part of the Roman Empire which leaves out all countries outside Europe, but in the US it means people from countries that are former colonies of Spain and Portugal in the American continent (what the whole world calls America, except the US) which actually WERE part of the Roman Empire. But hey keep making up names and reinventing history.
@@Xiroi87I found it unsatisfactory when he defined Latino as "someone from Latin America" but didn't explicitly define that term.
What about people from Guiana, Suriname, French Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, or Jamaica? Are they included in the Latino category?
If you include Spain, WE ARE LITERALLY LATINOS FOR SPAIN.....
I'm so proud there's a Colombian in the Colbert team! Thanks Felipe for representing us so well in the big ligues! 🇨🇴
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but when Stephen asked, "are you taking over my show"? Felipe replied, "Si, se puede". Stephen asked him personally if he was taking over the show. Shouldn't the reply be, "Si puedo"? Un saludo de las canarias
@@davcan18 You are right! That would sound more natural. Nevertheless,, In Colombia we have a rather respectful way of speaking, like a vestige from the colonial era. So, if you want to answer in a respectful manner, you can do it by speaking in the passive voice or in the third person form of speech. Also, in spanish, “You can't do that!” can be interpreted as “eso no es posible hacer!“ or “eso no está permitido/no es posible“ like, “that cannot be done/is not possible/permisible”.
Then in this case, it could be something like:
- You can't do that! (like in that's not possible or permisible)
- Yes, it can be done/Yes, it's possible/permissible.
In spanish would be something like:
- Ey! Eso no se hace/no se puede hacer/no está permitido!
- Sí se puede/sí es posible!
All that being said, if you ask me, I would guess Felipe's not so natural answer is a result of maybe him being the son of Colombian migrants. Maybe he was born in Colombia but was raised in the US. So it's possible he doesn't know much spanish, and that that was the best he could do.
Gracias, es interesante el uso de idiomas en diferentes partes del mundo. Entiendo el uso de tercer persona o Usted pero si es una cuestion directa..."estas controlando mi programa", no hace falta contestar en la tercer persona. Era una curiosidad. @@psicologiajoseh
@@davcan18 tienes razón 😂
@@davcan18 true, it should have been "sí puedo", but the punchline "sí se puede" works because a) the phrase is very popular among Spanish-speakers in the US because of sports and politics and b) coming from a Colombian, it comes across as a very polite reply, which is the default mode of communication in Colombia.
To really understand the culture of Antonio Banderas, I'm next watching, The Thirteenth Warrior.
Be careful with "latinx," a lot of Latin people HATE it! See the controversy around Bungie using the term.
I mean, who the fuck knows where George Santos really comes from. Or if that's even his real name. He might as well be a Norwegian called Erik Bjorgeson, how would we know?.
Trick question, they’re all Mexicans.
Wow this was really generalized nonsense and made everybody in the audience stupider as a result.
Thank you for doing something for Latinos 🇲🇽🇵🇷
Stephen, you should absolutely be interviewing John Leguizamo for Latin Month. He’s kinda like an authority on the subject. 😉👍
Buena Felipe! 🇨🇴 🇨🇴 🇨🇴
At least he didn’t blame Canada! We’re still pretty bummed by our connection to Cancun Rafael. 😅
Just for the record, I believe the Puss in Boots fairy tale is of Italian origin.
No. Not Norwegian. Maybe Danish? There is something rotten in the state of Denmark.
just call all of us mexicans like you always have and stop pretending to care, is easier for everyone that way
Thanks. That is a lot easier.
One that would throw off most people would be "Charlie Sheen". Because people would say "But he's white". Even though you can be white and Hispanic or Latino at the same time.
So what is he
I always respected his brother, Emilio Estevez, for acting under his proper name instead of the anglicised bullshit that was adopted by his father.
Cameron Diaz too, people forget about her.
Charlie Sheen is of Spanish and Irish heritage. Emilio Estevez is his brother and kept the family name instead of the stage name.
@@katherinetepper-marsden38 All of Carlos Estevez's siblings kept their real names. He's the only one that used their father's stage surname.
Please bring this Felipe guy back!!! He is adorable!!
Etymologically, latino is incorrect, since the reffered lenguages do not derivate from classic latin (which is a different high-level-studies subject) but from vulgar latin, reffering to the common daily lenguage romans spoke. Therefore the correct term is ROMANCE lenguages. Hispanic or Ibero are somehow better terms for countries that were colonizade by those situated in the region called Hispania by the romans or Iberia, by the greeks which includes Spain and Portugal. "Latino" is a cultural term defined in the USA. Sorry, but nobody in "Latinamerica" identifies themselves as "latino".
I am not Norwegian, so naturally I would like to take offense on behalf of the Norwegians and pass the Santos baton to France
Freedom fries!!
As a French-Scottish person I would like to take that baton and hurl it into the Mariana Trench. Don’t blame us!
Puerto Rico .. we're Caribbeans
Always the pineapples growing…
Not doormen and -women?
Antonio Banderas is European.
Let me guess: Hispanic, Hispaniola = SPAIN. Latino, Latin america = South American. Did I get it right? Wait, now i'm confused. is Santos even norwegian? or is that the joke. well shit
How can you make assumptions about somebody’s ethnicity? How does he know Pelé doesn’t have Spanish ancestry?
MORE OF HIM!!! I love when you have the writers on!!! And it’s even better because you’re not torturing them like Conan does! (Atleast not while they’re sitting next to ya, mehehee)
Writers Q&A bits on SNL = writers representation and idk, advertising bucks for CBS!
Meanwhile Seth will burn his entire team to a crisp without them being on stage, lol.
How about Santos is just extraterrestrial. NOBODY wants the blame for that.
latinx is not a thing bro is just a white stuff XD, theres nobody i know and i live in peru that call each other we re latinx .. like bro just stop is not goin to happen !
Please don’t use “latinx” it is patronizing and condescending to those of us who speak Spanish as a first language :)
Isn't Haiti French-speaking? Or am I just confused?
What about Chicano?
Mexican-American appealing to southwest Spanish heritage
Puss in Boots…el gato in a sombrero….. song from The Cat in the Hat.
I’m Mexican. Born in Mexicali in Baja. Never once did it matter what people called me, be it Latino or Hispanic. I get what people mean. Splitting that hair is for whiny victim sympathy seekers.
Even I don't really know the difference and I'm from Chile.
Si se puede!
On behalf of Norway; don't you dare blame Santos on us!!!
there should be more of this segment. i love it.
Other acceptable answers for George Santos:
- a liar and a thief (allegedly)
-is potato
-3 raccoons in a people suit
Official Statement of the Racoon Federation: "The Racoon Federation denies any political association with Mr Santos, be it illicit or non-illicit. Mr Santos has still a debt with the Racoon Federation for 5 pounds of cat food. Any help in apprehending Mr Santos will be rewarded with 2 pounds of MoewMix finest cat food. Thank you for your collaboration!"
Is potato 😂
The Russians would disown him too!
Latino? The transphobia on this show is out of control.
Anything but Latinx, Latin X is not a valid term.
since latino is the masculine and latina is the feminine, it seems like extra work to come up with the -x suffix rather than just using the already existing neuter suffix -um... latino, latina, latinum. That was already a thing in ancient times, and phased out in the medieval times for probably patriarchal reasons, but I guess people wanted to invent it again with an "x" just so nobody can pronounce it easily.
America is the great big stain of humanity. There apparently are four races on the planet: Asian, Latino, black, white. So, Pacific Islanders don’t exist, continental Africa doesn’t exist, Arabs, Europeans in general, or Brazilian Portuguese - not even the Caribbean nations. This is what had been primed in American minds and that secular mindset has created so much division and degradation.
I don't care what they called as longest is not latinx
I'm latina, and I'm also not taking the blame for that guy. ¡Que se joda! 🤣
Love Light Peace 🌺🍃🌸🍃🌺🌱🌹✨✨✨✨✨✨💫
As a Latino, plz avoid the term latinx
A lot of people nowadays seem to forget that Central and South America had multiple European countries aiming for that sweet sweet conquest during "that" era. Specially South America, take the blood sample of most modern Colombians for example and you'll probably end up with a huge mix of races, from Italian, French, Spanish, African among others. Consider it a small USA.
How dose Chicano fit in all that equation? Lol
Same way Xpanic does
@@lesbethtacioni1733
Nope!
Chicanos are Latino due to most of them speaking Spanglish and Contaminated Spanish which pisses off the Hispanics, especially the Mestizo Mexicans and Indigenous Mexicans.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I guess you are more South Americans than I will ever be 💁🏻♀️😁
Wrong❌ ❕ He's a Cat 🤭 #Huh🤨 lol
Actually "Hispanic" refers to people who can trace themselves to the Iberian peninsula, which includes Spain AND Portugal, so Brazilians are hispanic, although they speak Portuguese and not Spanish. My question is are people from Andorra Hispanic, is Andorra in which borders the Iberian peninsula in, or not in the peninsula? What about people from the British Crown colony of Gibraltar?
What on earth is going on?
Don’t care. 🤷♂️
What about Canada ??
Far be it from me to speak on behalf of an entire group of people, but as a Norwegian American, I can safely say that Norwegians aren't taking the blame for George Santos either.
Wait.... but.... Shouldn't it depend on which name Santos/Zabrovsky/Devolder going by?
¡Qué emoción saber que hay un colombiano en el equipo de Colbert! 💖💖
Wouldn’t surprise me if George Santos claims to be Norwegian.
Didn't Santos mother die during a raid on Scotland?
But not Portugal
Who wants 🍕
Are you seriously saying Brazilians aren't latinos? Spanish and Portuguese are so closely related that I read novels in both just fine.
Wait, wouldn't Puss still be Hispanic since he is from Spain?
Hispanics are Spanish speaking. Lationos include Hispanics as well as other latin-based laguage speakers - i.e. Portuguese and French. Hence people from Quebec are Latinos.
I'm so glad that there are still people out there that understand the true difference between Latino and Hispanic. I hope your post becomes the top comment.
Quick edit :) forgot to mention one thing.
Latin American (Latinoamericano): Latin-based language speakers in… you guessed it, American continent :P
Well most Canadians do say "AYE" just like my dad's side of the family. 😂
the Québécois are not Latinos. stop it
@@supahfly2106’Aye’ is a Scottish word for yes, and given the vast amounts of Scots who settled Canada perhaps that’s why?
Correct! A person who comes from a culture that speak a Latin based language Italian, Spanish, Portuguese or French is Latino. Latino Americans are Latinos from the American continent. I mean is in the name!
Norwegians everywhere: Hva faen?
Sad to hear that Latinx/Hispanic representation is decreasing, but hopefully it will be back on the rise soon. This was super helpful to know the difference, though I'm pretty sure Santos identifies as a liar. 😂
Americans trying to explain anything related to Spanish, Hispanic, Latino, Latin America or Spain...run...run for your life and don't look back.
Hispanic are people from Spain. Latinos are people from countries that speak a Latin language. Spain Portugal, France, Italy, Romania, Philippines, the French speaking parts of Canada, and all the countries from South America are Latinos.
Spanish is a language. It's not a race, nor a ethnicity, it's just a language.
We come in all shapes and colors, and we all have different customs and traditions.
The USA is the only country that think that South Americans are the only Latinos in the world.
I don't think that any country in the world would accept responsibility for Santos.
We definitely don’t claim santos. Ew. Let just Brazil take theresponsibility. NOT
Hey Felipe, thanx. As someone who's family came from Mexico with an ancestor who rode with Hernãn Cortez, but my fathers family came from Scotland in the early 20th century and in the early18th century with both slave and slave owners on that side. I've always been confused about the difference between Hispanic and Latino designations. You cleared that up quite well. Thanx.
BTW, my grandma who's family still lives about a block from the Zocalo in Mexico City. They've lived there for as long as the Zocalo has existed. Grandma doesn't like native Americans nor native Mexicans. She said that we're pure Spanish, but that's pure bull s**t.
We have Chikamec in our family and actually more Chikamec than Spanish. The Chikamec were the tribe that became the Aztec and there are small tribes of Chikamec from the Mexican border all the way down to Mexico City. In fact the Chikamec were the parent nation that gave birth to the shoshonean tribes, meaning the Shoshone proper the Ute, the paiute and all of its offshoots of which there are many, The Comanche and the Hopi. The Chikamec who were by this time were Nokoni (the homeless people) had had call the nation that we call Hopi now, were call the Moki then. The Moki meant the peaceful people and that's how the Nokoni thought of them, because when they were homeless the Moki fed them and made them welcome by their fires like you do with your cousins.
Its a long tale of sadness and pride but my grandmas mother looked pure indio. My grandma past away last year at 101 years old. She'd seen an awful lot of horrible shite done to our people, but she was a strong woman until she died. But again, I thank you for your clarification. It helped this poor mixed boy understand who he is in an increasingly smaller yet complex world.
The word LatinX is cultural appropriation by Americans. It's a word in Spanish that they are trying to force Spanish speakers to start saying, even though it breaks the grammar and syntax rules of the language. If Americans want to be inclusive, they should say "latin" or "latinamerican", because both are words in English.
Thats nuts, the regression of inclusion. I would note, not all peoples like the pidgeonholing if being labelled Latino or Hispanic. One friend stated it well, I'm a Mexican. Not Latino, not Hispanic, Mexican. I agree, stick with nationalities not grouping people into an amorphous category. For example, Puerto Ricans and Mexicans don't often get along in the long stretch. They don't want to be grouped together and this does just that. 🤷♂️ Just a thought
