  • I just got tired of my hose catching and getting stuck on corners.

    That heat shrink tubing just gave me an idea for making custom adapters for different size dust ports.

    It really does look good, it looks like a really good quality hose and you're right it will prevent it from getting caught on everything

    Never use electrical tape on anything, including electric work. It just turns into a sticky mess after a few months.

      Here in South Florida, it is DEFINITELY a problem. The best stuff i have found is the 3M Super 33 tape. It lasts for years in my un-airconditioned shop, without the usual goo.

      Use the good stuff, it doesn't get sticky. 3M Super 33!

      Especially if it gets heated with a heat gun

    What size can I use for an 1-7/8 hose? I can't seem to find it anywhere

    Where did you get the PET sleeving that size?

      This is the one I ordered. If you can find 1.25” (1 1/4”) that would be even better. I found some 1.25” black and yellow safety striped as well.
      25ft - 1.5 inch PET Expandable Braided Sleeving - Black - Alex Tech braided cable sleeve www.amazon.ca/dp/B075QD7RP6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_PH5SVQWHZA2D6JGQHPTB?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
      Just choose the 1.25” and select safety stripe.

    Ooooo! I love this! I didn't know they made that stuff that big! But before I scout it out.... Isn't it a dust magnet? All those little weaves have got to be caked with chips and sawdust no? Thanks in advance!

      Not so far!!!
      If stuff does get caught a little flex here and there and it’s off.

    How had this held up? Did it stay on..... or had it been a pain in the ass. I'm looking for a skirting like this to protect my clients belongings when I'm dragging a vac around their homes and businesses. Thanks

    • @mbwoodbutcher
      @mbwoodbutcher  2 роки тому +2

      It has held up great! It makes moving it around so much easier. Works perfect on the DeWalt HEPA vac hose and the shop vac hose. The trick seems to be to use a couple of good zip ties at the end of the corrugated part, cut the excess perfectly flush, then cover it all with heat shrink.

      @@mbwoodbutcher great thanks for the reply! What about heat shrink on the hose end as a gripper, then the sleeve and then a final piece of heat shrink.......n maybe a drop or three of gorilla glue in between all the layers?

    • @mbwoodbutcher
      @mbwoodbutcher  2 роки тому +1

      It seems better to get the expanded sleeving down in the groove and use the zip ties to hold it in there.
      The heat shrink mainly keeps the ends of the braided cover from sticking out all over the place and keeps the ends of the zip ties from catching on stuff.
      A little gorilla glue under the zip ties would not hurt though. Kind of a belt, suspenders, and framing nail all in one.
      All each should work but all 3 should be bullet proof.

    In all fairness I am not convinced it turned out into anything convenient. Apologies. I fully respect your choices. But I would never ever go for anything similar. Just does not fit my way.

    • @mbwoodbutcher
      @mbwoodbutcher  Рік тому

      Fair enough. For me the convenience of not having the ridges catch on stuff has been worth it!!

      @@mbwoodbutcher have you got any evidence of that attempted solution still being working as of now?

    • @mbwoodbutcher
      @mbwoodbutcher  Рік тому

      Yes, I have used the hose in the shop since I did the modulation for everything from general cleaning to use with a pocket hole jig to dust collection with my track saw.
      So far it has been durable and no issues with the heat shrink and zip ties loosening.
      Would you like me to post a follow up video?

      @@mbwoodbutcher I think this is an epic idea and am going to do exactly the same thing on my hose which I despise for the hose ridges catching on everything and even damaging edges in some cases. You're a star - thank you for the idea, just ordered some from Amazon here in the UK 👍

    Does that heat shrink come on a roll? Most heat shrink i have used is tubing.

    • @mbwoodbutcher
      @mbwoodbutcher  Рік тому +2

      Yes, the heat shrink comes as a tube. One was rolled, another folded back on itself. I just cut a section off and slid it over the area where the sleeving was cut and held in place with the zip ties. Just remember to melt the end of the sleeving to keep it from unravelling.
