  • This is a video Comparing the AV Famicom to the NES 2. This is not a technical review of the systems. It is more of my opinion and i show the exterior of the systems and the interior PCB. IF you would like technical information please refer to Wikkipedia.com.
    Thanks for watching.

    That "bump" does actually serve a purpose. It allows the taller NES cartridges to firmly seat into the system. Famicom cartridges are typically shorter and seat low enough into the console to sit firmly. Without the "bump" on the NES junior, cartridges would stand high enough to have stability issues.

    Australia & New Zealand had the NES 2 on market too, the rear connector port bay was dark grey to avoid confusion.

    can you just switch the parts around and mod it and take the parts from the av famicom into the NES 2 and have it with the AV multi out?

  • @masonsushi
    @masonsushi  15 років тому +1

    unfortunately you can't just swap the parts. Many modders have tried different ways of trying to put AV jacks on the toploader and removing the vertical lines. I hear there is a way of doing that, but you have to sacrifice a regular toster NES to do it.

    thank you for this vid, it convinced me to pick up an a/v famicom!

    @masonsushi no i mean like replacing the av famicom's pin connector with a 72 pin connector to be able to play only nes games, and then just switch the tops of the two consoles.

    I thought that side of the Famicom was for the Disk System.

    No, Nintendo to my knowledge didn't make a separate microphone controller for AV famicoms. They pretty much gave up on that feature.Now maybe third party company's made one but i am pretty sure Nintendo didn't.

    can I have your NES 2 Top loader since you don't really use it like u said in the video?

    Between your video and Wikipedia's article I've learned a lot about the Nintendo/Famicom. Of all the Famicoms ever released for NTSC regions, AV Famicom seems to be the best hardware. I'll immediately dump my NES 1 and make preparations to seize an AV Famicom. I'm assuming because the cartridge connector for the Famicom is so small I'll need to buy a converter. This shouldn't be too difficult.
    Thanks for all your help.

    Nintendo eventually released an NES-101 based on the Famicom AV, but in VERY limited quantities. It is the rarest NES of them all.

    I got a top loader from a friend recently and it is a disappointing playing games on it because while the games run more reliable, the lines are pretty noticeable. The colors looked a little more washed out too. The problem is probably even more magnified since I'm playing it on a newer larger tv.
    I wish I had one of those AV Famicons instead.

    Its curious why Nintendo's newer "Top Loader/NES 2" revision removes composite video and only offers RF while the original "Toaster" NES had it built-in. The reverse is true in Japan. The original Famicom had RF out only while its revision, the AV Famicom supports composite video.

    • @happity
      @happity 2 роки тому

      RF was cheaper, so the new NES just reverted back to it as a cut corner.

    • @azmune
      @azmune 2 роки тому

      @@happity That doesn't explain why the revision in Japan opted not to cut cost.

      Sure, but it was an improvement and may not have been as budget focused as the end-of-line NA model.

    the Top loader was a better design. if you notice, all the cart systems, other than the NES load that way. NES 2's tend to boot the fist time. No need to take out the game 5-7 times and trying to restart the system.

    Could you power an famicom 2 in the U.S.?

    • @masonsushi
      @masonsushi  9 років тому

      +ccateni WAN The AV Famicom runs off of our US outlets. There is a minor difference voltage wise. Some people use ac converters just to make sure, but most people I know don't bother.
