The wife and I made our first trip to the UK in May to road trip around England and Scotland. The first night of our trip we stayed in London, before we drove to Falmouth where we spent the next two nights at the Falmouth Hotel on Cliff RD. We absolutely fell in love with that area and Cornwall as a whole. The roads were a bit crazy for us Yanks but we figured it out 😮. So these videos may very well speed up our planned return!

What a beautiful quaint historic township, recently bought a 1971 CT 70 DAX and stumbled across your videos and thank you for the history lesson about my ancestors, all the very best from down under Australia.
I've fond memories of driving to Falmouth to go shopping with my Mum in her 1973 Saab 96 after passing my test. That was back in '85 to '87. Great to see you enjoying yourselves there. Look forward to seeing more. 😊

Wow that was amazing about the convicts, I'm an Australian and have always imagined what it was like back then in those times. to see that place was incredible, what a find!
Dax Hair was hilarious 😂. People smiling and waving could be because of the Honda but I suspect it’s something else. If there were an award for the cutest couple on the internet, you two would win! In the US it was never called the Dax. It was the first bike I ever rode! In 1969. I’ve been riding ever since!
Your little trips about make me want to go back to England once more. We used to rent cottages in Cornwall and Dorset and miss the walks and cream teas.
That bike looks like a hoot to ride. Great little bike to get around a small town at any age. If there are saddle bags that could fit on it, perfect. 👌
Such a cool video guys. Honda is just nailing these wee bikes. I sat on a new Monkey last week in NZ (cos kiwi) and couldn't believe how comfy and big it felt. Then there's the Grom. And the Dax. And if you want to travel the world (or green lane etc) there's the CT 125...now that's a legend. And again guys, or should I say Monika, gorgeous shots and brilliant editing. No scenery there for too long and lovely changes. This is c;lassic. Thank you both.
Hi, Yes Falmouth is a magic place , stay in that archway apartments one below from the penthouse and no lift . Then twice by the Maritime museum , one place we have only stayed and did not use the car , catch a boat to Turo , boat trips out to sea and visit other bays . Advise go early or late season when the kids are at school . Magic all the way F. M. Thanks for the video .😉👍👍
Glad to see you have a real Defender and not the god awful thing they are currently selling. Wish Honda would release the Hunter Cub in the UK as well.
I did hope Land Rover kept the simple, agricultural ethos, but they went ultra premium and extreme high end. It feels like they’ve left a huge gap here for someone else to fill- in come Ineos (I’m very curious about their replacement to the Defender!) The Hunter Cub- YES!!!
Lovely vid Freddie. We often go to Cornwall and Devon but have never been to Falmouth so looking forward to seeing much more of the town in your upcoming stories. 👍
Fun fact, I worked on the refurb in the Falmouth Weatherspoons. We wrote a letter, folded it up nicely and put it inside one of the upstairs over bars (the frames that hold the beer glasses). Hopefully one day someone will find it 😆 Infact, it was me who noticed you at St Michaels mount with your brothers, back in the summer 😎
I'm so looking forward to the long sunny days and getting around our lovely country again in the warmth. Great video and another slice of British history revealed, great stuff. Loving the little Honda, they certainly do make good bikes. I wonder how you will be when you come to hand the Defender back 😢
This Australian is very grateful to many times great granddad, for getting caught with his informally acquired hogshead of yeast. I doubt if he ever found it so, but thanks to him, his descendants live in a tropical paradise.
I had a chinese 85cc dax and put a 125 pit bike motor in it. Soooo much fun. Every ride was a laugh. Im a big man on a little bike that made the fun even more. Smiles per ride it was tops.
Hi from Australia. My mothers side of the family can trace ancestry back to Cornwall. Though not convict stock. We were there in 2010 on Holiday. Thanks for showing us again. Cornish pasties are very popular here.
I've seen corn on a cob plenty. Never even heard of corn on a wall. I am intrigued to say the least. Love your energy and extremely jealous of the Dax. Congrats on getting one. If only they would make it to the states. Still hopeful. But beginning to think we won't blessed with the opportunity to buy one here. Safe and continued happy travels. Thanx for the share of the sweet new score.
enthralling watch guys, thank you - when you showed the magistrates court and showed that bridge across the road I thought you were going to say that if found guilty you'd be hanged from that bridge 😄
Great video. I love Cornwall. Fun seeing both of you on the Dax. My step son has a little Benelli TNT125 that he's still not let me have a go on yet. I reckon it would be a right hoot with Lisa (Mrs SteveW) on the back for the 2 mile journey from our house into town for a coffee one day!
Always love the fun facts! I fully understand getting carried away with things, I’m exactly the same. I have a Porsche flask which my gf takes the mickey out of me about. Still no Porsche 😆 Great channel, thoroughly enjoy it 👍🏼
Aaah, Falmouth. Love that place. I used to live in Penryn and it was the weekend destination for me and my partner. Later, I worked at the University, so I know it well. Funnily enough, I reckon I know the owner of the Blue van and possibly even the Volvo! Small world eh?
I'm always searching for new Dax video's, what a breath of fresh air to see one that's not in spoken mandarin or something 😅 and in UK even better, I went to look at a Dax in the flesh the other day, but the bike shop had it's only one behind a glass window inside the shop behind a glass window 🤦♂️, couldn't even walk around it, I really want a Monkey bike, but the Dax has the two's up function (which I'm also glad your video showed) which is soo much more practical, great video thanks..
I've never ridden a Grom, Monkey or Dax but I kinda want to now. I had been thinking about a Classic 350 as a (town commuter/pop to the shops bike) to accompany my Himalayan. But one of these might be a fun alternative. The Dax also has echos of my very first bike, which was a Honda ss50. Another joyful video Freddie and Minika✌️
I don't know whether it is still there but there used to be a really nice cafe playing really good music that also sold vinylbetween you bookshop and thwe magistrates court.

Love Cornwall, we have a caravan overlooking Kennack Sands about another hour on from Falmouth and often potter into Falmouth on the Enfield Classic 500 for some civilisation. Really looking forward to seeing what you get up to for the next couple of weeks. We're off to Tenerife shortly and I have hired a bike from Easy Riders and plan to spend a couple of days on La Gomera after watching your excellent vids on your trip, many thanks for the inspiration.
Cheers Freddie, Ive hired bikes before in the canaries but not on Tenerife and not for a week, should be a hoot. Enjoy Cornwall you two and safe travels 👍
It's always good to get a notification that you've published a new video. It's been a while since I've been to Cornwall but I think I need to plan a trip (motocamping) this year. (Can't go too long without indulging in an authentic Cornish pasty!!) Not sure about the onion bhaji pasty though. 😛 Enjoy the rest of your trip.
Hi Freddie, fun trip in cold January. Had a Waterstones gift card from Christmas burning in my wallet, so just spent it on the Roaming book, looks very cool and interesting. Your Chanel is bad for me, my REC watch just arrived with the Steve McQueen Triumph interior! Good job my wife doesn’t watch. Have a great trip both of you.
One of the many things l enjoy about your videos Freddy is the little snippets of history about the place that you visit, this one about the law courts and the steps leading down to the water was very interesting, are they the very steps or have they been replaced? lf not you were walking on the very steps the convicts would of walked on. As other people have mentioned the little Honda Dax were about in the 70's but were called them monkey bikes or pit bikes, though l would be very careful where you leave it parked as it would only take one person to pick it up and throw it in the back of an estate car or small van or any van for that matter. l'm guessing the purchase of a Defender is now getting closer Freddy?
Really glad you enjoy the little history snippets🙂 Ti the best of my knowledge, th steps and alleyway are unchanged since the convicts would’ve walked down. I’ve been agonising over the Defender- do I have the guts to actually click “apply” for the loan application. I’m close!
@@FreddieDobbs You only get one life Freddy, l also agonised over buying my dream bike 22 years ago a Honda Blackbird for £5,000 and l'm so glad l did, take my advice Freddy and go for it, if your buying from the people that lent you the Defender your sure to get a good sound Landy.
Beautiful area there and thanks for the history peek Freddie...Love that smile on Monica was it the Everybody Wing Chung tonight shop at 4:30 in that put that there or the DAX hair shop goodies ?...lol...That Dax bike is a cool little putt putt....
If a true local told you Freddie then I’m sure it’s true! My ancestors were Bristol Pilots out of the little village of Pill, Somerset..you’ll pass it as you drive back over the m5 Avonmouth Bridge. There’s a great account of some Pill Pilot boats waiting in Falmouth for shipping heading for Bristol…a local man offered out one of the Pill men who had a reputation as a good fighter.. they met on the quay at 16:00 and stripped to the waist and went at it.. the Pill man knocked the local down after a battle and turned and asked the crowd if anyone else would like to try! Nobody stepped forward so they all went back to the Pilot inn for a good old drink up! The Pilot was Alfred Ray of Pill from the same family as James Ray who piloted John Cabot’s Matthew to sea in 1497! Anyway, I just thought I would put this as you said a nice part of the history of Falmouth and I was only reading this story the other day.. keep that landy safe and ride careful.
Yet another great video 👍 I love Cornwall…especially Falmouth…so many great eateries and cafes. I can’t decide if Falmouth or Mevagissey is my favourite place in Cornwall…I love them both for different reasons. Myself, my wife, daughter and Labradoodle are down there for a week in August ( after a Med cruise and a stag do in Benidorm 🍺)can’t wait…stay safe you two 👍🇬🇧😎
Now that's what I remember as a Monkey bike back in the 70's Freddie it looks exactly the same as the ones I seen around at that time .Such a great place to visit and rain or shine you have to great vehicles to use how good is that ,and when you own the Defender Freddie you could have a Dax in the back just incase of some nice weather especially since Monica fits so well on the back ideal for winter/ autumn breaks .😉👌👍
I’m so glad Honda kept the styling so incredibly true to the original👌🏻 I have literally just spent the past 30 minutes explaining to Monika how the Dax will very easily fit in the back of the Defender!😆
They still do the Monkey!! I sat on one last week in New Zealand. Very cool. And they also do the Grom. Check them out on YT mate!! And the Cub etc etc. Honda rules these wee bikes.
the DAX looks like Honda's Trail 90 from the late 60's and early 70's...they were great kids bikes you actually could ride trails on ...and your knees..LOL..they almost looked up beside the front wheel..LOL..you could have put your feet on the axle nuts..LOL..another great video...Thanks for sharing the history too!!...
Thank you guys! So nice! And never knew about Conwaill (It is beautiful) neither the history It has. Freddie do you mind repeating me please the name of that phenomenal book? It seems that the images It has are pure Magic. Thank you!
Much like your Porsche Wallet story, I always wanted a Jaguat. I bought a Jag Key Fob to constantly remind me of my destiney but, then came the Wife and Kids and the Jag dream was put on hold....! I'm now retired and have, along the way, invested all my time and money into Bikes. So..., that was the dream that was! PS, that fob has long since been replaced with a BSA one.
Absolutely splendid video! I really loved and enjoyed the Honda Dax adventure and especially Monica's reaction to the 2-up adventure ride on it into town ... LOL! Really great episode and thanks so much for sharing! I live over in the states and don't know that I'll ever be able to travel across the pond to visit the U.K. but if I do I'm definitely going to check out and discover these same regions! Safe travels my friend and keep the rubber side down! 😉
Really glad you enjoyed it- we couldn’t believe how comfy it was 2up!🙂👌🏻 I must get over to the US soon as there are so many places I want to visit there🇺🇸🤜🏼🤛🏼
@@FreddieDobbs Certainly let me know if you do, depending on what part of the country you're in I would love to meet up and grab some coffee or whatever you'd like - my treat!
I think you need to visit Australia, especially the rural towns… and experience how we use our vehicles etc for everyday use and not for posing as thenUK does….. the 4 wheel driving will amaze you I think 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I grew up in Cornwall. Sadly had to depart but it'll be where they bury me come such time. On a more cheery note, you must try to take the coastal road from St Ives to St Just near Lands End. Most scenic ride in Cornwall. By the way chuck steak pasties are the true treasure of Cornwall not these hybrids 😂
No wonder Monika was wary of the Honda Dax! A bit small I would say but evidently comfortable according to M ( was she threatened with "no coffee for you"). Her first transport wish seemed a bit more realistic (the Land Rover of course). But no doubt we'll see more of the two of you out and about on the 4WD than the 2wheel alternative. Having a bit of a soft spot for the Landie, I think we're going to see a lot more of it. Despite my current addiction to Hondas (Jazz Crosstar - brill and CR-V bit of a barge, cmfortable but not v economical).
On another note….. I’m m just watching the “Last overland” series , Singapore to London” … have you seen it Freddie, a trip like that would be up your alley I would think ?
I thought your voice had gone up an octave - good luck with your slim-fit jeans. Beautiful location, I was there on holiday last summer. When's the Freddie Dobbs' Atlas of UK Coffee Shops coming out?
It's really nice to see Monica having more air time in the videos lately!

What a stunning location
What a good looking bike. it's like a retro classic custom of Philippine's Honda XRM 125.
It’s fantastic hey!🙂
Brilliant video, and the first bike my wife has said 'I like that'
Monica injoying the ride on the back 🤣
She found it surprisingly decent!🙂
Beautiful area there and thanks for the history peek Freddie...Love that smile on Monica was it the Everybody Wing Chung tonight shop at 4:30 in that put that there or the DAX hair shop goodies ?...lol...That Dax bike is a cool little putt putt....
Definitely the Dax grooming salon- I couldn’t believe the chance!😆
This is INCREDIBLE!!! It’s so good that these stories somehow haven’t been lost in time. I’ll save this🙂
i just saw the DAX hair salon you drove past on your DAX bike! clever!
Yet another great video 👍 I love Cornwall…especially Falmouth…so many great eateries and cafes. I can’t decide if Falmouth or Mevagissey is my favourite place in Cornwall…I love them both for different reasons. Myself, my wife, daughter and Labradoodle are down there for a week in August ( after a Med cruise and a stag do in Benidorm 🍺)can’t wait…stay safe you two 👍🇬🇧😎
I think that old blue Vauxhall van was an ex-mobile library.
Ahhhh this does make perfect sense
Now that's what I remember as a Monkey bike back in the 70's Freddie it looks exactly the same as the ones I seen around at that time .Such a great place to visit and rain or shine you have to great vehicles to use how good is that ,and when you own the Defender Freddie you could have a Dax in the back just incase of some nice weather especially since Monica fits so well on the back ideal for winter/ autumn breaks .😉👌👍
I’m so glad Honda kept the styling so incredibly true to the original👌🏻
I have literally just spent the past 30 minutes explaining to Monika how the Dax will very easily fit in the back of the Defender!😆
They still do the Monkey!! I sat on one last week in New Zealand. Very cool. And they also do the Grom. Check them out on YT mate!! And the Cub etc etc. Honda rules these wee bikes.
Wow first Dax ! I’m looking forward to hear your opinion on it ? I was thinking of buying one to put in my camper van 😊
I’m already picturing a Dax in the back of a Defender! It’d easily fit!👌🏻
Always a feel good factor watching you....even the thought of an onion bhaji pasty....
the DAX looks like Honda's Trail 90 from the late 60's and early 70's...they were great kids bikes you actually could ride trails on ...and your knees..LOL..they almost looked up beside the front wheel..LOL..you could have put your feet on the axle nuts..LOL..another great video...Thanks for sharing the history too!!...
I would LOVE to see what this Dax is like off road. I have a strong feeling it’d be unbelievably fun!
@@FreddieDobbs oh ya..its size makes it easy to manhandle and you feel like your more in control of it....
Thank you guys! So nice! And never knew about Conwaill (It is beautiful) neither the history It has.
Freddie do you mind repeating me please the name of that phenomenal book? It seems that the images It has are pure Magic.
Thank you!
Of course Dani; Roaming Roark’s Adventure Atlas
Who decides on the background music? It’s so cool, keep up the good work Monica your camera work is brilliant
Freddy knows how to very politely not take a 'no' for an answer, lol.
Ron, Yosemite
Selective hearing😆
Absolutely splendid video! I really loved and enjoyed the Honda Dax adventure and especially Monica's reaction to the 2-up adventure ride on it into town ... LOL! Really great episode and thanks so much for sharing! I live over in the states and don't know that I'll ever be able to travel across the pond to visit the U.K. but if I do I'm definitely going to check out and discover these same regions! Safe travels my friend and keep the rubber side down! 😉
Really glad you enjoyed it- we couldn’t believe how comfy it was 2up!🙂👌🏻
I must get over to the US soon as there are so many places I want to visit there🇺🇸🤜🏼🤛🏼
@@FreddieDobbs Certainly let me know if you do, depending on what part of the country you're in I would love to meet up and grab some coffee or whatever you'd like - my treat!
Definitely hit up Koala Karlous on for some coffee! Their vibe is overall great!
Ahhhh I’ve walked past this- I will check them out🙌🏻
Ditto seeing Monica's smile!!
Great vid again. Enjoyed it pre-work.
Been meaning to ask, are you a Tractor Boy?
Hi Freddie the Defender looks good on you it suits you, man ✌🏽
Thanks Ash- I am agonising over that loan application!😆
@@FreddieDobbs do not take on debt. that is how they take your freedom
I think you need to visit Australia, especially the rural towns… and experience how we use our vehicles etc for everyday use and not for posing as thenUK does…..
the 4 wheel driving will amaze you I think
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Glorious!
It’s a really stunning part of the country👌🏻
Thank you for this coastal road tip- I’ll make sure we do it!
You’re not a million miles off with the threat of no coffee a pasty😆
I’m with you re Hondas- they’re supreme machines👌🏻
For some reason that old van/lorry behind the old Volvo reminded me of mobile libraries. Do you think it might have been built as one?
I was thinking this- it definitely had the feel of an old mobile library I remember from primary school
On another note….. I’m m just watching the “Last overland” series , Singapore to London” … have you seen it Freddie, a trip like that would be up your alley I would think ?
I agree with Monica - definitely not two adults on a Dax. 🤣
Welcome to kernow I am a local and when you return give us shout I know Cornwall better than most folks
Many a good tale to be told about Falmouth #home
I’m hugely enjoying learning about it!🙂
I thought your voice had gone up an octave - good luck with your slim-fit jeans. Beautiful location, I was there on holiday last summer. When's the Freddie Dobbs' Atlas of UK Coffee Shops coming out?
🤣🤣 I do think I may’ve gained a couple of kg since I wore the slim fit last! I really like the idea of this☕️📕
Once in a while get a 3rd to film. It will be a huge hit.
I think that is a great looking little bike
