- I am installing the second cam, from Ubiquiti, the Unifi UVC-G3AF security camera. It did not go as easily as I show in this video, but it was all because of a bad connector.

My PlayHouse is a channel where i will show, what i am working on. I have this house, it is 168 Square Meters / 1808.3ft² and it is full, of half-finished projects.
I love working with heating, insulation, Servers, computers, Datacenter, green power, alternative energy, solar, wind and more. It all costs, but I'm trying to get the most out of my money, and my time.
Morten - make sure you point the backdoor camera so you can see more of your roof. That way you can see the tactical teams coming down from the helicopters (trying to break into your datacentre fortress)... lol 😂

The wires sticking out of the front of the plug i call Off Cuts or Spare bits, much like the off cuts of carpet that might be usefull, so you keep them for bloody years lol :-D

Hi Morten, great video as always.
Have you seen the UVC G3-Flex, its price performance ratio is great the only limitation is that you shouldn't expose it to weather directly. Since you mounted your camera's under a overhang the G3-flex would also work great since it is light weather/moisture proof.
The passtrough plugs are called EZ-RJ45 and there is also a special crimping plier which cuts of the excess wires when crimping the plug.
I use a EZ-RJ45 crimper from aliexpress with cat5e plugs on cat6 cable and can run 10gigabit over these cables reliably.

As other users stated you should run fiber to that switch from your main. For nothing else since you have not grounded your cameras if one of your cameras gets hit by lightning it could potentially fry this switch and your main switch with anything and anything connected to it if you ran fiber to this which from the core that 1 act as a insulator so if worse case scenario happens you don't lose everything

4:13 those usually don't work if try to use both ports at the same time. and the EZ Connectors at 5:59 are very handy

The dobler might not work well with two 100Mbit,, but a 100Mbit and a 10Mbit is usually okay.

You should point the dome camera a little more down. It's illegal to record surveillance videos of public areas. I'm assuming that the road outside your house is a public road.

I do only record when there are movement in my driveway. The moving the sensible area did help. and I had to fix it again to remove recordings of plants moving in the wind.

Not sure about the video recording laws in the EU and/or Denmark, but doesn't the fact that Morten put an exclusion mask on the driveway camera help? That way anyone viewing live camera feed can see Morten's private yard areas and the public areas like the road and sidewalk, but the camera will only record Morten's property and not the public areas?
In Canada you can film where ever you want.

Are you terminating your cables in A mode? I am using B style as it is supposed to be better for gigabit connections... And for the camera law, we are quite the same as in Denmark...

Hi, could you please let me know to what device are you recording the footage? I've heard you need either an NVR or the newer cloudkey Gen2+ which has a HDD for storage. I didn't see how the recording side of things was set up. I currently have an AP-LITE off a USG, due to get a switch and camera but unsure how to set up the recording? Thanks for any guidance and nice video.....

Morten, you should hide that box. take the ethernet connectors (8p8c), crimpers out and get rid of the stuff that I.T. nightmares are made of. I'm going to lose sleep now knowing stuff like that exists. ;)

@@MyPlayHouse those couplers and those half-duplex splitters are terrible! Who ever invented them is evil. You should hide them and never mention their existence again.
It's bad enough finding 10Mbps hubs hidden above drop-ceilings or under bathroom sinks.
Seeing those adapters makes me sad.

When I put RJ-45 plugs on cables, I immediately run my cable tester, instead of getting delayed problem resolution if I mess it up :-)

What an excellent review, I could see all the steps needed to install these devices, thank you! How has it been working, f.ex. during cooler winter months? And have you had any issues, like camera not recording when someone moves on your yard?

My biggest issue has been spiders making webs just in front of the camera and making hundreds of selfies :-) I have been going through recordings and wondering why my good nabo left twices, with no recording of him comming back in between. So it does miss stuff. And I have two Dome cameras,, and they are not great in the dark,, they kind of fog up and record their own reflection.. when it is dark.

I ahd an Uncle who thought he was a bird...let's just say you did not want to park your car in his driveway...what is this Danish law you can't film in public? or a public street?
The law is only about surveillance cameras recording outside of private property. You know, the surveillance society that "everyone" likes to freak out about. IANAL, but I guess that the specific camera Morten installed would be permitted without recordings, when the purpose is to monitor the entrance area, and I suppose that his masking to cut off the public street may make it ok to also record.

The camera still needs power, and wireless "security" cameras are a joke, as they're very easy to knock off the wlan using a $4 NodeMCU board or similar.
