Gents, this is easily the best thing I have seen in D&D in YEARS, keep this amazing content coming, kudos to Mark for an excellent DM work, this has been epic. I hope Larian will keep this going!! ❤
I don't know if Jennifer has played DnD before, but she picked up quick on the "find the weird little guy the DM intends to use for a single scene, embrace him, and bring him everywhere" aspect of it.
That was me with my party and Thermos the Troll, who watched me charge the Troll King who he hates and so when we escaped, he was waiting up the road and I rolled extremely well to offer him a greatsword I had looted earlier, and so then Thermos was with us until his eventual heartbreaking Death when we went in to Avernus (descent In to avernus)
Bingbong speaking in hellish and she completed the sentence with sth like "exactly" or "u're right bingbong" without missing a beat in somewhere else :D she's really in the scene
Shadowheart may, at first, didn’t plan to keep Bing Bong. But as soon as she saw Lae’Zel being irritated by it, she decided to keep it just for trolling her.
She and the rest of the crew spent four years working with their characters. I can imagine they're still attatched to the the storyline and immersed in the lore and game.
I’m thinking “No wonder why we are the heros: without us, instead of saving the land, this crazy lot would be just scattered and take it like it’s a vacay” 🤣
Neil is living his fantasy LOL Props to Neil tho, truly, he sublty encourages RP and subtly teaches the cast on how things can be done especially at the docks fully using Astarion background and the rogue knowledge of thieves cant secret language, he also often involves other character as a nudge to RP, involving Karlach multiple times. The effect is almost immediate for the cast after him RP-ing, slowly easing the cast into RP, and the moment its Tim's and Theo's turn, they become a bit more comfortable and engaging in RP a bit more compared to the first ep. Neil struggling not to spoil Dritz is funny, his face when his suspicion on who the drow is and Mark indirectly confirm it is Dritz and Neil geeking out but immediately shuts up was hilarious. Props Mark for bouncing off with Neil to create funny moment so the cast is not bored when its not their turn. Neil did amazing job holding himself back since he is the gamer in the group. The itch to metagame is kinda palpable but he held back, good player IMO in his gameplay manners with newcomers.
Astarion trying to *stop* Drizzt's gear from being stolen and eaten was also *hilarious*. When Mark described the scimitar and statuette, my first reaction was, "ohhhh my god, Astarion is totally going to take them for souvenirs...." but it was so much better that he had that moment of temptation, and the crying when he gives them back.... lol
I was laughing out loud non stop here with him geeking on Drizzt! And fighting Gale for the magical items, i can only imagine i would be doing probably the same thing if i was in Astarions shoes at that time, him struggling to gve them back after lae'zel smashed the trap controls and freed Drizzt hahahaha! He is too good!
Can we just give Tim so much credit for getting thrown into WIZARD in his first DnD game and actually trying to use his spells properly. Also Theo did a wonderful job as well. They all did. Wonderful treat for both the BG3 and DnD communities. Also me and Jenn 🤝 Me getting a pet in every DnD game 😂
Tim was amazing. I sat down with him before we started and went through everything as he was a bit nervous/overwhelmed, but I agree he absolutely nailed it!
Your work was top tier. Even with no playtesting for new players, no session zero, 6 players in a 6 hour one-shot -- and you still directed a story with real narrative beats. I hope this encourages more one-shots that are more structured for narrative success. I loved it. @@SherlockHulmesDM
The DM said at one point, "For some reason, ALL the healing potions are in Tav's bag" and now watching the team without Tav's leadership, it's not hard to see why XD
Also I think everyone forgot they had the panther backing them up lol - just like a true dnd session, players losing track of all the tools in their kit
I would *love* to see a longer campaign done with the cast! Probably difficult to coordinate but I hope someone tries. You'll have to get Tav out of the picture again but you can always just say they went to rule some kingdom somewhere :)
@@aqualung2000lol, I feel that Tav would be so good at multitasking that they could appear sometimes like sort of deus ex machina to save their fav dummies from death and than just go back to boring royal lifestyle
@@Domurabut Bing bong has gotten a promotion to a lesser devil for bringing secrets of Adventure Mart back as a source of corruption on the material plane.
There's one that kind of looks like Bing Bong, but I think it's an imp? Not sure. I think the imp is in Baldur's gate near the earth elemental, besides a tent. It's the area where *SPOILER!!!!!!!!* the fake Dribbles performed. If I remember correctly, the imp had dapper clothing as well.
omfg Astarion having to beat Gale to keep the latter from *eating* Guenwhyvar, and Shadowheart saying "It's those lavender eyes, I can't help it"... this has reached unhinged fanfiction levels of entertainment and I am *here for it*
So, why is Drizzt going solo? You'd think at least Wulfgar, Regis, or even Artemis would be with him. I understand Catti-Brie would be taking care of their daughter, but still...
Larian really captured lightning in a bottle with this cast. Seeing how passionate they all are and how much fun they're having with the fans really makes me hope we'll see more of them in future projects together. Whether that's DLC, Baldur's Gate 4, or anything really. This group is amazing.
I don’t know which one of them to give the best VA to when the game awards comes around. They all deserve it. The girl that did Orin’s voice deserves it.
Larian tends to have voice actors stick around for their next games if the community likes them. Lohse the fan favorite companion in dos2 plays mizora in bg3 (though you probably didn’t recognize her because she’s so different), and malady a fan favorite non-companion in dos2 ended up being the narrator in bg3.
@@ferretdashKeeping talent around is a very good idea, I mean if you found someone that resonated with your customer, using them again is win-win for everyone basically. Smart move is smart.
I absolutely love everytime Amelia shows up everybody gets quiet, focused on her. Because her voice is simply so calming and endearing... Everyone just melts whenever she shows up and I love it.
I don't know if it was on purpose or not, but I really like the pairings in this video: The very serious and wise Wyll paired with the lax and carefree Gale - both capable of magic but Gale being incredibly reliant on it with Wyll relying more on his skills and proficiencies. The sneaky, sly, light-hitting Astarion paired with the straight-forward, no-nonsense, heavy hitter Karlach. One who leans more towards criminal, dishonourable behaviour with the other being more emotionally intelligent and honourable. Finally, we have the two very serious, very loyal and very opinionated characters with two very different belief systems. Two who are so alike but have taken drastically different paths, with their loyalty to Tav being the only thing that convinces them to work together. Even so, spending time together seems to kindle a friendship neither thought possible - until, you know, the Bing Bong incident. Regardless, both of them working together is a force to be reckoned with - with both of them staying on track and prioritising the mission above all else. I really, really love the dynamic of these duos. If they do another one shot or even a campaign, I would really love to see these duos again.
@@momentofzensame! They have such the banter and funny conversations off combat too whenever you run around places. Makes me smile and sometimes chuckle
An artist who goes by Otagothic drew a great picture of this; they really do capture the spirit of the meme. Astarion: "Someone will die." Karlach: "Of fun!"
2:07:09 this moment with Gale shooting the machine and blowing up Astarion had such "What in the sweet hells were you thinking blowing up that machine? I was right there!!" vibes 😆 I'm sure he had a good talk with Gale after Withers brought him back to life hahah
I have a strong feeling, that Neil Newbon waited his whole life for this DnD evening. BG3 was my first contact ever with this type of genre, but i would like to play some DnD myself IRL. So i really appreciate his Questions, his performance overall and you can really see that he enjoys it 100%.
This is the reason Tav woke up to find Shadowheart holding a knife to Lae'zel's throat. We missed the first five minutes of them having it out about Bing-Bong.
You're not kidding! Honestly, his "you don't fall unconscious as I hate that that robs you of RP so you start bleeding out consciously"? Amazing. This is my first time seeing him, and that house rule alone might just be enough to get me to watch more. That rule is genuinely, to me, on the same level as the stuff you see Brennan, Aabria, and Matt steal from each other. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. 😂 I also agree with everyone saying they hope to see the cast embrace more D&D together in the future, if their busy schedules allow! So much fun watching all-around!
@@kodywilliams7830 Fact is like natural 20 being a crit out of combat being a common house rule, letting Koed people still acting is a common house rule for like 20 years. Mean if you are koed on first turn of a 20 mn fight you are just bored. So any remotely decent DM HATE that. He made a mistake : using mind control on Karlach, you can hear the actress mentioning "ho that is roleplay!". That's a kind of thing you should refrain on beginner players. But all in all he delivered everywhere.
Definitely recommend! I've been watching High Rollers since the first one and I think Mark remains my favorite liveplay DM to watch. A perfect balance of letting the rolls direct the narrative but also making sure everything is fun along the way. @@kodywilliams7830
What I will say is that he displays one very important skill for a DM: interaction with the party. I think all good or great DMs are invested in the story with their crew not "against" them. The balance of keeping the rules alive while also allowing some interesting ideas to shape situations makes this all very enjoyable to watch (and surely would be very enjoyable to be there as a player as well)
i really hope Theo knows how much we love and adore Wyll. He is by far my favorite companion in the game, he just tickles that's super good valiant archetype that I love so much in grittier fantasy games! Thank you Theo!
His Darkness and dip out of the battle move made me laugh so hard. He's seeems like such a lovely person, I hope the best for his career in the future I think he's going to be nabbing some amazing roles
Honestly Amelia Tyler's facial expressions are as fantastic as her voice Getting to watch the genuinely devilish glee manifest on her face in the final encounter was wonderful
Neil about to explode in his chair when he realized who the 'special' person was had me rolling. I don't know how he held that in a for a good 10 minutes, he was practically turning purple trying to restrain himself. 🤣
I wouldnt say most entertaining but I definitely would say that it's extremely refreshing to listen to new dnd players learn to play on a series like this. So many podcasts and series like this are extremely experienced, so newer people just figuring out how it works is also kinda fun.
@@zephloe yeah for sure. good word for it is definately refreshing. its reminiscent of my first session and its awkward and chaotic and just how it should be lmao
@@NotReallyFonso I'm kind of hoping that Netflix or Amazon or whatever notice just how much imagination capture BG3 has gotten and commission a series, whether it be following the events of the game or some sort of follow on (Though those who've finished the game know that could be rather complicated for a couple of the characters)
@@shayneoneill1506 the movie was successful so I think there's a DnD show already in development. there's basically an infinite amount of stuff to explore so I don't think everything needs to be centered around one city and three dead bois. in video games and genre fiction there's this instinct to never let characters lie, but a story is only a story if it has an end.
i just imagined Drizzt dashing to Mc'Waukeen's, grabbing himself a health potion, a burger and a juice, then dashing back to advice everyone about the machine. what a champ.
I can just imagine Astarion semi-casually traumadumping on Drizzt like “AND THEN- he carved these RUNES in my back which was like SUPER painful but I’m so strong and powerful that I like ESCAPED” And Drizzt is just like nodding slowly, slightly horrified but like: “Oh sweet summer child ok”

Astarion and Karlach masterfully bullshitting those guards to hide that dwarf girl was awesome. Also, feels like Neil was channeling a bit of Astarion's magistrate past when confronting those guards. Edit: OK, every scene with Astarion was amazing! This whole stream was fun. ❤️❤️❤️
SAME, I would absolutely love for him to have a couple lines at some point that at least nod to his experience/knowledge as a lawyer/magistrate too. Like it would be really cool for him to have even just a little dialogue that includes his knowledge of specific laws or loopholes, even if he's been out of the court system for 200 years things have to have changed it would be funny for him to be like "that was grounds for execution back in MY day"@@oceanicGrimalkin
@@o0ghostsleep0o Yeah. When you play as Astarion being your Origin character, I vaguely remember lines that you can say that recall that like telling Wyll he would be able to spot loopholes in his contract due to being a former magistrate.
The Drizzt books were my introduction to d&d, so I was basically a mirror of Neil during that reveal. The idea that Astarion is a Drizzt fan boy is pretty cute too since Drizzt escaped his evil upbringing to become a hero. I'm imagining a younger Astarion wishing he could be like the Drow who went against stereotype and hoping he could be the vampire who proves they're not all bad before he lost his hope.
It's kinda funny because Astarion is technically older than Drizzt (iirc a few years older, not a big gap at all) but because Astarion was turned so young, unless Drizzt picked up on Astarion being a vampire Drizzt probably sees Astarion like he's a little kid. (I was surprised when I found this out, I thought Drizzt would be old enough that Astarion could have dreamed of marrying Drizzt when he was still alive lmao) But i totally agree Astarion dreamed of being like him. And imo, Spawn! Astarion succeeds! I think Drizzt would be proud of him at the end of the game! (Imagine them running into each other again and Astarion infodumps on him and Drizzt is so happy that he came out on the other side)
@@miguelortiz8350 goated idea. i would spend so much on crowdfunding for more of this! i'm sure the actors would love it as well, it seems like they had a great time and i'm sure it's a nice break from your regular VA or acting jobs :)
When Neil recognized the Drow trapped in the magic sphere and he begin to react when his further suspicions were correct really made me geek out. Neil has played BG: 2 and Samantha has played BG 3, when she recognized Jaheira and Minsc. Love this.
Neil is very lore savvy. I watched his interview where he told he'd realised he'd been casted for Baldur's Gate 3 very early on (back when it was still a secret) just by reading some of the casting lines (that by no means were dropping any proper names, just a couple terms a D&D player would recognise). His realisation was comparable to the one about the drow: "oh my God, I'm in Baldur's Gate 3!"

AstarioNeil fanboying over Drizzt Do'Urden was one of the cutest things I’ve seen in ages. 😍☺️🥺
I used to wish Amelia Tyler had her own Origin character, but I’m a little relieved that she doesn’t now. I would commit unspeakable things to recruit her.
He desperately wants to do this puzzle and the rest of the content he prepared but they so desperately have latched onto Bing Bong and the fact I feel like he’s having to create Bing Bong on the fly makes me love this whole thing so much more 😂
Neil is amazing at D&D good lord he absosultely kills it! Edit: i love how much Theo is taking it all in too, you can tell he's new but learning. Jennifer is also an absolute riot!
Neil is *glorious* with his theatrical performance. It's pretty wholesome that Theo even took the time just reading DnD stuff on break. Even while being new, he's just as interested and happy learning about it all.
He has a pretty sparkly character and knows DnD. That's helps him. Not to say anything on his performance. As great as I expected him. But the others they don't know what they are doing.
@@pralinor Most of them are pretty *new* to it, and it's part of the experience to fumble every now and then as they learn. The important part is that they all had fun.
Honestly, seeing the cast fool around like this just makes their in-game performances that much more impressive. They can make fun of the characters and draw attention to their quirks just like everyone else, but when it comes down to it they’re absolutely capable of pouring their heart and soul into these characters and making us believe in their passions, their struggles, their complex inner lives. Nat 20s on Performance checks all around.
Ma boy Wyll got scammed on his first attack on vampire sister, he was the first to attack after Shadowheart blasted her with guided bolt that gives advantage on the next attack.
Yeah there were a lot of things missed but that happens with inexperienced players. DMs can only remember so much during campaigns so the players have to help out some times. Also Astarion should have gotten an opportunity attack on the sister. But it’s all good. Happens.
Just so we are clear, Tav is possibly dying and the party has a limited amount of time before they turn into mindflayers due to distance from the artifact. They decide to get haircuts, adopt an imp, go to a tourist attraction, rob a passing merchant, and get arrested? Are we SURE they haven't all played dnd before?
I think its funny the two who encounter Drizzt are the only two who would have no idea who he is. Meanwhile Astarion stifling his fanboy urges until he reaches the same area.
Gale: *Explaining to the priestesses of Sune that he wants a beard trim and his split ends removed* "You do YOUR magic." THE RIZZARD OF WATERDEEP EVERYONE!
As is law in EVERY dnd game....there must always be one small creature npc the party attaches themselves to regardless of whether the dm wants it or not. And this one's is dear BingBong
Did good RP. Dice rolls are dice rolls. Sometimes lady luck isn't there. All in all, he is obviously a beginner so a tad bit restraint. But once he manages to break the ice you would have a fantastic player in front of you.
@@airstriker108 He is total beginner, I was like him and I have seen my fair share of people like him. Once he understands we won't judge and break the ice, man I'm sure he will be AWESOME (you just have to hear him when he relax how he is suddenly natural at playing)
It's a bit sad that you had to end the campaign so abruptly at the end, but I understand that D&D can drag a long time and this session was only sponsored for a certain amount of time, but I still loved every second of it, hopefully the actors and actresses did as well, It was certainly a joy watching them have a laugh together and play world's favorite roleplaying game. I really wish Larian continues to sponsor stuff like this in the future, they are great fan service and also great advertisements as well.

Not to mention Astarion Fangirling over Drizzt instead of freeing him. 😂
Neil is living his fantasy LOL
Props to Neil tho, truly, he sublty encourages RP and subtly teaches the cast on how things can be done especially at the docks fully using Astarion background and the rogue knowledge of thieves cant secret language, he also often involves other character as a nudge to RP, involving Karlach multiple times.
Astarion approves.
Agreed on all counts!

Wyll was kind of underused in this one-shot, but other than that? No notes. This entire cast was phenomenal. Mark did a fantastic job as DM too.
The DM said at one point, "For some reason, ALL the healing potions are in Tav's bag" and now watching the team without Tav's leadership, it's not hard to see why XD

I don’t know which one of them to give the best VA to when the game awards comes around. They all deserve it. The girl that did Orin’s voice deserves it.
I mean, lot's of undiscovered talent but we are fixated on "pedestal - ing" the same 10 actors in our society.
Larian tends to have voice actors stick around for their next games if the community likes them. I don't know if it was on purpose or not, but I really like the pairings in this video:
The very serious and wise Wyll paired with the lax and carefree Gale - both capable of magic but Gale being incredibly reliant on it with Wyll relying more on his skills and proficiencies.

I also agree with everyone saying they hope to see the cast embrace more D&D together in the future, if their busy schedules allow! So much fun watching all-around!

Outside of that it’s fantastic and I very much appreciate it. 😊💙
True. I wanna see a sidequest where we have to help settle a dispute while Astarion acts as impromptu judge or lawyer.
(I was surprised when I found this out, I thought Drizzt would be old enough that Astarion could have dreamed of marrying Drizzt when he was still alive lmao)
But i totally agree Astarion dreamed of being like him. And imo, Spawn! Astarion succeeds! I think Drizzt would be proud of him at the end of the game!
(Imagine them running into each other again and Astarion infodumps on him and Drizzt is so happy that he came out on the other side)
39:59 “I’m not technically a shadow thief”
“Close the lid”
Neil Newbon is an improv god
Very in character.
Awwww they caught on the "Little Star" thing about Astarions name
The exchange between Astarion and the guard during the thief chase had me rolling!
Guard:"what the ff...
Astarion:" YES?!
The way he said it so indignantly was everything I needed 😂😂
Timestamp pls?

Larien really needs to let these people make 500 episodes of this because the cast members are so entertaining
they would need to pay those dude 500 times... which is probably not possible lol
@pralinor the fans would fun this. Kick starter
@@miguelortiz8350 welll didn't foresaw that tbh... I hope some dudes at Larian will see that -_- Cause... I'm backing XD
I can never hear the narrators voice without hearing *A U T H O R I T Y*
I used to wish Amelia Tyler had her own Origin character, but I’m a little relieved that she doesn’t now. I would commit unspeakable things to recruit her.
She should have been the Dark Urge.
2:03:11 Amelia rolls a nat20
Play DOS2 👀
@@Rockchicksyco Well, on her Twitch or UA-cam channel you can now see her play the Dark Urge and it was entirely NOT what I expected. 😂
she’s mama Malady in DOS 2 😂
He desperately wants to do this puzzle and the rest of the content he prepared but they so desperately have latched onto Bing Bong and the fact I feel like he’s having to create Bing Bong on the fly makes me love this whole thing so much more 😂
The life of a DM
Classic DnD
Sign of a quality DM/GM, not that we doubted him
Neil is amazing at D&D good lord he absosultely kills it!
@@pralinor Neil's been pretty open on his Twitch about being a big nerd himself and has played before. He's got a bit of an advantage on the others.
Happens.
@@BigboigoinlongI believe he had a ranged weapon equipped and while Im not sure about tabletop, you need a melee weapon for aoo in bg3.
1:53:30 shadowheart sneezing and saying "shar's blessings" is so cute
Gale and Astarion fighting over the magical items. LOL
MY TWO FAVORITES.
Neil feels like an uncle I want to move in with and live the rest of my life having whacky adventures with.
yeah but if he was my uncle, I'd feel weird fucking astarion in bg3
I dunno why but he also looks like the kind of uncle that could fix your car in a heartbeat, never learnt it, just knows.
@@hiiambarney4489WHY IS THIS SO ACCURATE
@@hiiambarney4489 and whenever you offer to pay he “haha you’ll get me next time” but it already was next time
After watching his own streams playing through BG3 I have come to the conclusion that he is, in fact, a Chaos Goblin! lol
As of today with patch 5 of baldurs gate 3 bing bong is officially cannon!
1:01:51 honor that nat 1 lol those guards fully are so convinced by Wyll’s deception they head across the city and won’t return for days.
Gale was living his best life at the spa and I love that for him!
I think its funny the two who encounter Drizzt are the only two who would have no idea who he is. Meanwhile Astarion stifling his fanboy urges until he reaches the same area.
Astarion fangirling over Drizzt gives me GREAT joy.
Neil is one of us. i would probably freak out myself!
Gale: *Explaining to the priestesses of Sune that he wants a beard trim and his split ends removed* "You do YOUR magic."
THE RIZZARD OF WATERDEEP EVERYONE!
I’ve never wanted to be friends with a group of people so bad these guys are hilarious 😂
I had that exact thought haha
Neil is so awesome, natural at rp'ing and DnD and knows his lore.
One of the coolest dudes, I've become a big fan!
The whole cast is so phenomenal
He has streams
“Evil” Amelia in the end was the wonderful addition to this campaign! Great job, guys!
Mark is a master DM. How he could focus on anything with Amelia next to him is a testament to his role. 😂
I can't believe they managed to make me more convinced that Shadowheart and Lae'zel are into each other
As is law in EVERY dnd game....there must always be one small creature npc the party attaches themselves to regardless of whether the dm wants it or not. And this one's is dear BingBong
Neil having an absolute meltdown as all the details of the drow are revealed, things dnd nerds the world over would recognize XD loved it!!
I just love Amelia's facial expressions all the time. She was truly meant to be a Dungeon Master
Or a player, too A dark urge player.
Find out Wed, apparently.
I love how much they seem to be enjoying the story, especially Neil who seems like a D&D veteran
Afaik Neil and Amelia are both big DnD nerds already
@@markmatthews9102 I get the impression Samantha has played before too
@@Adz2That wouldn’t surprise me, given that Samantha seems to be pretty close friends with the person who DMs the Oxventure DND games.
No way, a crossover. @@eleanorsmith7152
Astarion *squeaking* when the drow comes close to him was so cute omg
Neil recognising all the lore - "Somehow, Irenicus returned."
Poor Theo didn't get to do much on either episode. Wish they didn't have to cut it so short cuz the group chemistry is fantastic.
He had really bad luck with the dice!
That deception check against the cowled wizards at the temple of Súne was clutch though. :)
Did good RP. Dice rolls are dice rolls. Sometimes lady luck isn't there.
All in all, he is obviously a beginner so a tad bit restraint. But once he manages to break the ice you would have a fantastic player in front of you.
I know! I felt bad for him, like he really got the short end of every encounter. I wanted to see him shine.
I wanted to see Theo do more too when he does have his moment it seems like he’s having so much fun and does really well
@@airstriker108 He is total beginner, I was like him and I have seen my fair share of people like him.
Love how Shadowheart is all: "Hmmm, this drow is pretty, time to save him", that's the motivation of half of my campaigns.
I 100% will admit I came here from an animated version if "Hey there soldier... Whos your friend?" "Yes, whos your friend?"
