    If you are looking for a time-efficient way to increase fat loss, speed, strength, balance, and reflexes as well as the condition of your bones, brain, and cardiorespiratory system, jumping rope may be the answer. As a bonus, jumping rope is fun especially as your fitness and skill levels increase. With practice, you'll be able to perform all kinds of cool jump rope moves. Apart from all these benefits, I simply like the sound the rope makes as it spins and cuts through the air before tapping the ground.

    Holy crap this video single handedly finally taught me how to do the jump in one day.
    How most people teach it is starting off right away with alternating the feet. And trying that, I Never could do it.
    But the way you taught it by staying on foot for a few dozen jumps and getting used to that and then switching it. I was able to do that flawlessly after a few minutes.
    And now a few hours later i’m alternating like it’s cake.
    Thank you so much!!!!!

    Hi Andrew,
    Great video and crystal clear explanation with slomo demonstration. Best I've seen and heard.
    I'm 72, started jumping rope in February, very slow start, much frustration, bought a new heavier steel rope which gave me more control and feedback. With daily practice I was soon makig progress and can now jump 220 jumps in basic bounce without snagging the rope.
    I had also been struggling to learn the Boxer Skip and since seeing your video 6 weeks ago am glad to say that with much perserverence and practice following your method, I can now use this step intermixed with the basic bounce to prolong my skipping sesions comfortably. I am now moving from "counted jumps" to timed jumping intervals to continue my daily training program. It's great fun and I feel so fit as a consequence. Cheers, Brendan.

You're learning new skills and at the same time you're having fun and getting fitter. Win-win's all around!

    Hey Andrew,
    Great video! However this move can also be done side to side and instead of shifting weight to rear foot you can shift it to front and tap with back foot.
    Bill

    • @thewayofthejumprope
      @thewayofthejumprope  5 років тому

      Hey, thank you Bill! And, you're right, you can perform a side-to-side variation(s). I actually made a video on that some time ago. It was one of the earliest videos I made, so I wasn't too familiar with how to position my body in front of a camera for good angles, so the rope looks a little imbalanced when spinning.

    Great video! Literally the best one on "boxer skip" out there. I had one doubt thou, should you focus on one foot landing before the other, or will it be automatic when you place one foot to the rear?

    • @thewayofthejumprope
      @thewayofthejumprope  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Jashan, much appreciated, thank you. It's such a great feeling knowing that others are benefiting from these videos. That's what it's all about.
      Great question! It typically happens automatically if you shift your weight to that rear foot. However, if you keep your weight centered, both feet may land more simultaneously. I will have more boxing skip videos comparing some different variations and include information on your question.

    Sir , day by day i am developing great faith in you. Thanks a lot for your guidance.. today one more question is buzzing around my mind.
    Sir, I wanted to know if it is necessary to wear shoes during jumping the rope. In my colony one man is suffering from.corona and he is admitted in hospital.
    Due to the fear my family is not allowing me to go on the roof top of the building and shoes are not allowed inside my house.
    Can i perform this exercise without shoes ? If no, then what injuries can it cause?

    Hi,i started doing the boxer step because it is such a good jump rope skill that i wanted to learn. I eventually learned how to do it. But soon i started feeling a sharp pain below my knee area on the right leg which is not my strong leg. I have stopped jumping rope for for few days now so that i can recover. Do you have any tip or advice related to injuries?

      Hey Hitesh, wise move to rest from jumping to allow your body to heal.
      It's often a good idea to try to increase volume/intensity gradually. That said, when we are so eager and enthusiastic to learn, it can be hard to remain patient.
      Consider some knee and leg strengthening and mobility movements:

      Hey Arunabh, that's great you're back jumping rope. I would suggest not rushing. Ease your way back into it, especially if your calves are getting sore. Warm-up prior to working out and consider stretching afterwards. Jump rope for shorter durations and gradually increase.

    0:39 - Those veins tho!

    • @thewayofthejumprope
      @thewayofthejumprope  5 років тому

      :-) It's funny you should mention them. I was visiting a close friend's house last night, and while seated on the couch, a friend of mine, was curious enough to touch them.
      I was once called a "human road map" by someone on account of all the veins. When I'm warm and/or it is warm outside, they really pop. They are the result of a combination of heat, low body fat, training, diet, and genetics.

    So, if the rear leg and foot are supporting most of the body weight, like in this video, then the footwork is called the "boxer skip;" but if the front leg and foot are supporting most of the body weight in an alternating, side-to-side, front-foot-lands-first sequence, then the move is called "boxer step?" If I do double or triple taps during second mentioned sequence, would I still be doing the boxer step or would it be boxer skip?

    • @thewayofthejumprope
      @thewayofthejumprope  2 роки тому

      They are boxer skips/boxer steps because they were moves made popular by boxers. So, yes. If you go through the playlist at the bottom of this comment, you will see the moves you mentioned along with others. The exact names given to each boxer skip/boxer step depends on the feet positioning and execution of the move.
      Even other moves such as a double under performed with a crisscross (also interchahgeably called a crossover) are referred to by many people as a boxer's crisscross/crossover because it was boxers who would have been seen doing them most regularly in yesteryear. Yet, some boxers perform the "boxer's crossover" differently; some perform a cross and uncross in one jump, others do a rope rotation followed by a cross, etc.
      Hope that helps.

    Andrew, the concept looks simple, but I can't synchronize the movements. By the time one of my legs goes forward, the little "kick", the leg that juts out a bit, my rope strikes my feet. I can make the movement without the rope, but I can't make that movement and have the rope go under my feet. I feel completely uncoordicated.

    • @thewayofthejumprope
      @thewayofthejumprope  3 роки тому

      Hey Menghi, you could try doing one hop at a time in the boxers stance. With one foot forward and one in the rear, start with the rope behind your legs and swing it over and hop. Keep repeating that until it feels more comfortable. With practice, your timing and coordination will improve. Hope that helps.

      Hey John, you're not alone. I was the same. In fact, I remember, one day after just buying a jump rope from a store, my girlfriend began jumping rope right then and there on the sidewalk with ease and low off the ground and I was struggling to string a few jumps together and I was jumping about one foot off the ground.
      While this is an old video, the "Kaizen" technique demonstrated here can be very helpful for getting in the habit of jumping low off the ground:
      ua-cam.com/video/FiWlF6yBS2g/v-deo.html
      Another strategy is to simply to practice jumping low off the ground over and over without a rope to kind of condition your mind and body to the movement. Then introduce a rope.
