I'm totally with you, I've been desperately waiting for EC models for so many years and I absolutely love what we're getting. Considering it's really hard to get a solid-yet-marketeable Slaanesh aesthetic, I think they nailed it by aiming for soft shapes, body modification and assymetric designs. And Lucius is just perfect, exactly what I was hoping for with him!
Yes solid and marketable, if I wasn't rambling off the top of my head that is what I should have said! You condensed a lot our rambling into something coherent! - Cal
IMHO, Emperor's Children *should* look like a cross of Xenobites, Killer Clowns from Outer Space and Alison Cooper. I'd say designers should get raise, they nailed yhe assignment.
I think you should also throw in Edward Scissor Hands. I was kind of thinking like what if a Slaaneshi went the opposite route and went excessive in denying themselves sensations that say the merest pinprick would result in in raucous delight and that they would go through periods of extreme denial in order to reset their receptors and go through periods of building up to extreme decadence. I think people forget that Slaanesh isnt a god of pleasure and decadence he/she is a god of extremes and excess.
@@spookrockcity you say everything else but that literally only leaves Lucius and whichever lord you weren't referring to, so seems a bit overstated there.
These models look sick, the other day, on Discord, I told a friend about how their armour looks a bit Eldar, likely due to the Slaaneshi influence. Also all my Emperor's Children and Slaanesh loving friends love these models.
That's fair, that's why we thought it might be good to talk about things in an objective light, there are certain points others have brought up that I would agree with but a lot of the other points seemed unnecessarily nitpicky I think more storytelling and visual context is being shown in these models as a whole ~Sunny
Exactly!!! I've seen so much hate for like no reason but it should be more disturbing. My response is these guys are, but they also pretend to be loyalists to people who haven't met astartes yet so it works well for me.... Being a mix of those two concepts.
What the fuck are you talking about? They're so fucking tame. Give me body horror, hardcore drug/torture/sex references, contorted faces of ecstacy, flayed enemies and grotesque trophies. Every single model except for Lucious fails to deliver. Fuck this sanitized trash.
Ive been saying this since fulgrim was revealed. The paint isnt doing justice. When we see this range in the hands of some real painters people will fall in love
I agree the paint jobs aren’t very flattering. It looks too close to black legion with the black and metallics overpowering the pink. I think that’s why people are saying it doesnt feel very slannesh
GW really should’ve shown it, but in a shot during the reveal livestream they showed briefly other heads for the Flawless Blades models, and there is a head in the kit that is almost an EXACT match for the classic artwork you were comparing to. It’s… Perfection
Yeah people sent it to us in the members discord after this video. So don't worry you're not the only one to notice 😉 we have been very impressed - Cal
@ He deleted his comment he was saying how that girl was really annoying and some other stuff sorry if you felt caught in the cross fire wasn't aimed at you - Cal
It seems to have been a real marmite reaction and I think it comes from people having expectations because of stuff like the guitar noise marine which was never going to be, and never has been, an actual part of official 40k design (if anyone wants to argue that point, it's a promo collector piece just for fun, based on an old miniature from the rogue trader era, so before 40k was really its own properly established thing). So they had these unrealistic expectations of something really dramatically out there, and have not felt these meet that, but they never were going to.
I didn’t know there was any backlash to the models, at least with this wave. I can get a preference conversation between wanting pretty Fulgrim or ugly Fulgrim but these new dudes look amazing to me! I’ve been dreaming of seeing a new Lucius and he looks so god damn good! I think he has one of the most dynamic poses in 40K.
I think that paint job really takes away from the cursed aspect of them, especially Lucius, which I believe can become really cursed with a proper paint job
Lucy †he Eternal is a bit of a disappointment, though: The Head is Significantly Oƒƒ. The Armour & Weapons, and their posing are decent enough, but that PAINT JOB: is a real let-down & does the Model no favours. It looks as though †he 'Eavy Metal Team caught a Parasite on Vacation & begged oƒƒ Sick; and the WarComm Staƒƒ had to pick up the Slack & finish him for the LVO Last minute. ( after painting up those (III Legion) Traitor (cough: Sons of Horus) Herald Consuls ƒor their WC Article.
@@WhatareyouPaintingnow yeah, I know, but these ones definitely suffer a lot more from it than I dunno - Black legion, ultramarines, heck even tyranids. Again, if painted correctly I can see Lucius being like crazy grim dark and other part of the release somewhere on par
@@margaretwood152 all I remember about old Lucius head is that it's maybe really scarred? I mean I noticed that the new one is different, but I'm not sure whether it's necessarily a good thing or a bad thing
I absolutely love these models especially the flawless blades how they got like those aeldari cone heads that morph into the slaanesh symbol. It's so good.
I've been an EC fan since Rogue Trader, and I absolutely LOVE these models. People complaining about their look are way off base. These models just need more animal print!
I think the main criticism comes from people expecting more body horror like how the old noise marine upgrade sprue showed their hand fusing with the sonic blaster while what we got is a cleaner look. Although the cleaner look makes sense specifically for Emperors Children, most people were expecting them to lean in on the horror. Such as the skin pulled over the armour having screaming faces/stitched together, more twisted/modified armour. I think kitbashers are going to have a field day with these.
I think the reason some people are dissapointed at every release is because theyve just hyped up their faction their guys that their expectstions are just impossible to meet
I still can't understand why some people go "these models are so letdowns from old" Dude I checked old noise marines and they were just random horned guys with weird guns
It's not even necessary to use the legionaire's head on the Flawless Blade to make the marine from the classic artwork. In the presentation for the combat patrol you can see 3 extra head options for the Flawless Blades, one with the speaker mouth and black eyes, one with a gladiator style helmet and one with flayed lips (very body horror).
I do think that it works nicely since it gives the eye something to follow with the elixirs to the Head ,to its tongue, to the whip through the arm, them the skin armor on the leg, back to the whip and to the sharp ends ending near the sword.
Honestly, I think the ec models are the best out of the four chaos alligned. They definitely convey that body horror and cenobite look, especially the alternative heads for the faultless blades. I think maybe gw could give players the option for more detailed pieces or simpler pieces as an upgrade sprew. That way I think it pleases both parties but honestly, I think these are detailed enough and look amazing.
Um I need you guys to make this a monthly series. Like honestly it would be cool if you guys take a look at newer miniatures and they don’t all have to be GW and I think it makes for easy content.
@gilbertgarnica7896 @daedalus5253, thanks for the feedback guys seems people are really liking it, we might refine it and try stuff out, but we always want to make content that you guys are interested in ~Sunny
I watched your video and I have seen other youtubers analyzing/critiquing these models. I agree with you quite a bit. I also think these models are really well done. 😊
I wouldn’t want to collect these models or paint them. That doesn’t make them a bad design. It’s the type of design that appeals to a specific audience. For someone who likes this design and style will love it.
I feel like there‘s no way around this with Slaanesh. I also think that it‘s probably a good idea to have armies with a very strong own and specific feel to them (I know, you werent talking about this, I‘m just typing out some thoughts following the initial ones). Especially with all the Space Marine armies.
@ I agree, and you see this in the other chaos legions. I’m a big fan of death guard. I’ll have my fun painting rust and pox on my boys. Someone else will love to paint up these corrupted monsters of skin and leather. Everyone gets to have their fun with their projects. Chaos is the most polarizing major alliance because it’s so stylized.
I am super keen on the EC. They look absolutely fantastic! Absolutely beautiful eye for how to build the Adrian Dmith artwork. God I love the lense you guys see through.
Thanks, well we do look at things from a design perspective rather than just, I like X thing or dislike X thing of course we have things which we like and dislike but, we try to be objective in our analysis. Which people think you can't do with art and design but you totally can! - Cal
@WhatareyouPaintingnow Objectivity in art is incredibly important! If we don't have it then we can't strive to be better artists, nor would it be important to understand its techniques and applications. Without it, subjectivity means so much less. Fucking perfect comment, Cal, thanks ❤
I've been obsessed with the EC since finding out about 40k years ago, and I've been crying out for a release for years - even an upgraded sprue would've worked for me. Now we're getting these models, I'm absolutely thrilled. They've nailed it. Anyone who even labels this as a 'redesign' doesn't even really understand what the EC are, this is them through and through - its extremely faithful!
I don't think the new EC look bad per se, I just think that, with the exception of Fulgrim and Lucius, they look uninspired and safe. They're basically just modern updates of what already existed with very few new ideas or themes on display here. They stay true to the originals without pushing the envelope, and in a sense aren't really all that new for it. When people look forwards to new model ranges, people look forward to new things like weapons, aesthetics, units, etc. It's true for every range, but with Chaos specifically people are going to be holding out for new and fresh ideas. And as for them being safe, just compare them with any other legion but World Eaters and you'll see more horror and brutality on display than this. Even the Thousand Sons have some excellent mutations and spells on their miniatures and I just don't see quite as much body horror or brutality here as I do with most of the other ranges. To a lot of people (such as myself) the Emperor's Children were always marketed as the most twisted, depraved and obscene of all traiter legions, and that idea has simply failed to translate. You can't point to anything here that any worse than what we've already seen elsewhere, which feels like a letdown to me. Overall, I still think they look good. Just not great. Mildly disappointing.
That Noise Marine head you mentioned with the flesh, getting a closer look at that, I'm not sure if it's a fusion of head and helmet or if it's a face stretched onto his helmet
@WhatareyouPaintingnow I'm pleased with this, as far as I see it anyone that says "it's not enough" are the ones that want slaanesh daemons naked and are mad they're not.
To be fair those old old metal models were the best sculpts ever of the Slannesh demonettes and them being naked wasn't everything it was how feminine the sculpt was. GW seems to have a very hard time doing feminine sculpts - Cal
I personally found myself disappointed at first because I was hoping for more mutations, but honestly, I've done a complete 180 on these models and I'm gonna try and pick up the box set
@WhatareyouPaintingnow I really love the lore behind Emperor's Children, so I did keep examining these models, and I kept noticing smaller details that made me enjoy them more, plus having your troops be not as insane to paint being I can put more time into making the other models look crazy is a plus
They're forgetting that the Emperor's Children whole thing is perfection, they obviously won't purposely uglify themselves like these people who want "body-horror" keep demanding. The speaker mouths and elongated heads are body-horror done in an aesthetically pleasing way, something the EC would strive for. They're not the Death Guard nor chaos obliterators.
no that wast even their original phalosaphy they turned everything into art because art was forbidden before fulgrim liberated their world. fulgrim happens to be vary beautiful so they also look beautiful but art can be disturbing as well. they are more interested in perfect form and action which dose note mean butty. now they are looking for the extremes in sensation they literally self flagellate Luciase cuts his own face they also feel what others feel around them so they like to inflict pain and suffering on others as well.
Literally my only complaint is that the Noise Marines aren't using guitars. Which, like, I get why. But come on, everyone loves the classic mini of the Noise Marine shredding on his guitar lol
I don't really understand the backlash. The only thing I think I dislike, and it's such a minor thing, is that Lucius's face doesn't have teeth and the teeth make a very prominent feature of his smile in official art. Him having long pointy teeth in his smile made a distinct face, without them he looks a little derpy. I also understand the choice to have that toothless grin though, It's not my preference personally but I respect the artistic sculpt choice. I also think that's something you could easily add with green stuff so it's barely a problem frankly and a lot of the other issues is the paint job not really doing a good job with the eyes but that's again not an issue. I probably would have done him with more human skin especially on the pauldrons and chest, but you can't hate a model for the paint job when that's the one thing that you have control over 😂.
A totally fair take in my opinion. I think we all have our little preferences but I look at this and I am like it hits all the marks to get it to the markets! - Cal
I am an art director for games and movies and I absolutely love the EC models. I criticize your content a lot, but this time you really hit exactly correct!
honestly the first thing that came to my mind when seeing for first the flawless blade i thought it was a mock to the custodes because... banana boys, in a similar way that they mock the emperium by still using the "for the emperor" warcry
Sadly it is very popular to hate on GW. They deserve some critic ofc, but people seem to just hate for the save of hate. Sadly hate sells these days. But I think the EC models look really good. High quality models.
We have a very old episode now on is GW a bad girlfriend and we talk about the good and the bad of the company, but honestly I wouldn't be so upset by them if their pricing was better. So much of what they do comes down to their pricing being garbage. And I think it affects peoples other judgements like these are great! And I mean why listen to people if they will hate on you regardless - Cal
@@WhatareyouPaintingnow The price img and business model is terrible, and can really be critiqued justifiable. The constant update to rules, after spending a lot of money on constant new rule books and codex. It’s gready, and something that I hope will change. But to say that the new models are bad for the thinnest of reasons and calming its a objective truth is just dishonest. The new EC are not my favourite models in term of style and subjective preference. But they are still dammed good models, with high quality details.
I hope that all these sets will be more or less compatible with each other and, even more, that the Horus Heresy Marines and regular CSMs will be able to be combined with them.
I hate the 'more design is better design' mentality. I much prefer a sleek model with a distinctive silhouette to a walking Christmas tree. I actually think most of these models look great.
200% I am stealing that Christmas Tree line which I have used for D&D characters and magical items but its just such a succinct way of saying it. Thanks for the comment and totally agree - Cal
Oh also, I should note I've been a Slaanesh fan since I got interested in the hobby in the 90s. However I've never collected Emperor's Children because frankly they've never had any good miniatures (other than the 2nd edition noise marines), this is literally the first time they've had proper army support and I love it. They look excellent. I am finally considering getting some Emperor's Children.
I agree with you guys I think the paint job is really the reason people are complaining about not enough body horror, it’s a fantastic paint job but like you guys said they can’t go too far to be marketable, that being said a different pain job I think could really make these guys super gross
Every time someone points at a new warhammer model and exclaims "GW is taking the grimdark out of 40k!" I think yeah the 'eavy metal paintjob they use to market the minis is very clean and attractive to new buyers, maybe you should buy the models and paint them to look scary and grimdark?
I think all of you are right, some people just don't like new thing, some people don't like the paint job. I wish like you people would realise that the eavy metal team is always going to be super clean - Cal
@@WhatareyouPaintingnow i keep seeing this argument of yours throughout the comments and well, It feels as if it's not entirely true. Like yeah, space marines are pretty clean usually, but a lot of their aos stuff painted in a more sophisticated way, forge world stuff was painted in a very different way(tho I'm not sure whether it was a same team or not), I guess there are examples in 40k models that are also painted in a more fitting way. Even if we look at primaris we can see that the first wave (intercessors, hellblasters, aggressors) are painted much cleaner than the newer waves (indomitus box and tyrannic war stuf) - like newer stuff has a lot more battle damage, weathering and stuff. So I think that actually they can make a Paint job that is both aesthetic and true to it's source and marketable at the same time. These ones just lacking
I had to look it up but it makes sense to bring in elements from existing or past variations of slaanesh models helps with the theming and keeping things consistent ~Sunny
I’ve seen so many negative video titles about the new EC models, but I absolutely love them, they hit it out the park even better than I could’ve imagined, I think people just wanna be negative just to be negative at this point to get clicks and feed off controversy; I just like cool models to paint
I love a lot of the new EC guys. From what I'm seeing, I think some people expected more mutations like serpent bodies and claws. The only gripes I have are the blocky speakers on the Noise Marines and also that Lucius's face is lacking the teeth that make him look more menacing. However, I think these models were designed to lean much more into the (Dark) Eldar aesthetic and it really captures the narcissistic arrogance of the Emperor's Children. There are nice nods to the old MK6 armour and the trim is nice and clean. If people want the super dark and nasty feel, I think it come more down to the way you paint the miniatures. These guys are a kitbasher and grimdark painters delight.
100% like this new direction for slaanesh. Think Luci did not really need the high heels however, but great model. Now lets get a New Slaanesh Dread model please!
maybe just me but i find it interesting some of the emperors children replace their own skulls with helmets, atleast it looks like they did seeing as the skin is contorted and stretched over astarte or even eldar helmets that way
The new models are solid! Homage to the old models and paint job. Being said that some of the models will benefit from custom paintjobs. Most of the critique comes from people who mix up art that come from later years and how actual models should look in their head canon.
💯 you can paint and do minor modifications no problem, and that will really change things. That is why we wanted to wait but we wanted to be a positive and analytical voice among all of the complaints - Cal
They are absolutely amazing models, it feels very weird that there seems to be two very different opinion on these in the community :D I think these are straight up the best representation of traitor marines yet, but obviously I just enjoy the Slaanesh aesthetic the most. The other legions are also cool ofcourse, but these seem so on point that I can't understand why so much weird hate :D Like what the hell are the artist supposed to do with EC except this perfection that they made?
simple! excess we want more, no clue what exactly but more ! personally I want an even more adult NSFW set of GW models, but cant wait to start painting these
I've had a problem long running problem with 40k's depiction of Slaanesh (via the EC) feeling one note. It's like "okay, cool - you did the watered-down cenobite look - but there's more to Slaanesh than that". Slaanesh is about excess in all its forms. Where's the eroticism and vanity? Where's the consumption and gluttony? Where's the hubris and mastery? I'll take any excuse to rip into AoS, but credit where it's due, AoS has one of the best realized depictions of Slaaneshi followers - and they sure as hell blow their 40k counterparts out of the water. Granted, the Hedonites of Slaanesh still don't go as far in some areas as they need to, and they still suffer from being water-downed for "corporate safety", but they're at least making a decent an attempt to depict some of the core Slaaneshi aspects. You have cultists that look like palace dancers. You have a massive blob atop a opulent palanquin. Hell, you have two lord character models making a cocky "come at me" pose.
For as many problems I have with GW, and the way they handle things, for all the criticisms I have of their business model, the quality of the models they put out overall is top notch. Bangers after bangers is the status quo for them, even if they stumble sometimes. They put out extremely high quality, very creative models, and that's why I still buy from them. Sure, if they weren't at such a high price that keeps rising so often, or if they weren't constantly out of stock, or if they didn't fumble sometimes, it'd be nice. Still, there are precious few competitors that can put out such high quality plastic models. Someone had a lot of passion when modeling the Emperor's Children release, and I respect that. I wish it were a larger release, with things like daemon engines, terminators, and mortal cultists, like what the Death Guard had, but what we did get was excellent.
@@WhatareyouPaintingnow Oh for sure. In America it's already absurd, in Australia it's downright insane, and it's constantly getting worse. The price is going to bring down GW eventually, when the price gets too much for even the most passionate fans.
The only thing that i could nitpick about is that i wish there was a nice slaanesh vehicle, dreadnought or monster (aside from fulgrim). But i am really happy overall.
I've been collecting Emperor's Children since 2nd edition. The new models are great. My issue is with the army photo that shows other Chaos Marine models. My current Emperor's Children army has 25 Havocs, 30 Raptors/Warp Talons and 30 Possessed. None of these appear to be a part of the new army options. I guess my complaint is mostly based on the rules/army option side of things. I feel like my whole army of 150 painted models will now be out of date or at best difficult to fit in the new set up.
At this point I have no clue what most GW 'fans,' are complaining about for most of the models they hate. I understood Coteaz, and (even though I love them,) the Sanguinary Guard.
Ha ha ha, my point was more I really dislike this character in lore but, I think the sculpt is great. Usually commenters like you seem to get it but, still wanted to respond - Cal
The people is really complaining about this models? I play EC and this models look sick to me. I am just considering if going for EC or Eldar for the next period because this looks like a pain in the ass to paint with so many details.
I really dig the new models. My only complaint is that i honestly wish they went more insane in a goofy way alongside the body horror. Like the Noise Marines having the legit Guitar bolters and doing pete Townshend powerslides and stuff. And I wish every model had high heels like Lucius...
I am not really a fan of EC but I do like the Kakophani. I was looking forward to the release. These models are beautiful and I am looking forward to building an EC army.
I agree guys, I really love the models. They look really cool and compared to say the Blood Angels who were much more hit or miss they seemed to have killed it. With that said I do get the issue with GW constantly releasing new armies with only a few units. We know the Grey Knights need to be redone.
The, for lack of better word, edge is missing. The old fabious Bile model had a flayed skin cloak, how do we know it was flayed skin? Because the face of the person it belonged to was still there. The Emperor´s children usually take trophys. so where are they? Where are the flayed faces, where are the decapitated heads? They aren´t there. It almost seems like the emperor´s children have been for lack of better word sanitized.
The elongated head dudes seem to have faces in their shins but like we discussed it's also a matter of balancing some of these elements, if you have everything on all the models then it becomes harder to tell who are the higher ranked ones from the troopers and likewise with character models and specialised units. Sometimes less is more ~Sunny
@WhatareyouPaintingnow It's easy to separate the elites from the rank-and-file troops. They are, for lack of a better word, less "human" than the rank and file, as they have been exposed to the corrupting energies of the Warp longer than the others. An example could be that a rank-and-file Space Marine will look like your average chaos Marine, with their usual trophies, a flayed face or a decapitated head-either as part of the skin on their leg, arm or shoulder armor or hanging form the belt. The elites, however, will be much more disturbing. A flayed face or a decapitated head? If only the victims were that lucky-at least they would be dead. No, this head is still alive, all its senses twisted into a cocktail of drugs being fed directly into the Marine. As for the Marine itself, think of the Space Jockey and H.R. Giger. Just a helmeted head, missing all those glorious sensations? No, no, no. Their heads and helmets have merged into one, their faces replacing the front of the helmet. Fleshy tendrils connect them to their weapons, allowing them to feel the bullets sliding through the barrel, the heat of the gunpowder exploding. If they wield a close-combat weapon, they want to feel it as it enters the body of their victim. That is how I would create an Emperor’s Children elite-someone who has fully embraced the pursuit of every sensation imaginable.
I think you need to start being better consumers of online information. Stop listening to the loudest, most obnoxious voices on the internet, and then using them as a strawman to complain about. Take a moment to recognize that there is a difference between the real world and the online world, and that your videos will be more timeless if you just stated you liked the models without complaining about the nebulous "others". As it is, this video will only make sense to people right now, and lose it's relevance with time. I saw the same comments you are talking about, but just thought it was the typical GW customer reaction where there is complaints no matter what they reveal. I remember people complaining about the Harbinger of Decay when they showed that off and that is objectively one of the best models GW has ever made. Hearing a few complaints doesn't make me go "Why is everyone complaining about this!", it makes me chuckle with "LOL 40k players, please never change!"
I think there's nothing wrong with taking a look at what people are saying about a product, analyzing it for ourselves from different angles and having an objective view about it, which we point out in great detail in this video... 🤨 ~Sunny
I love new EC models, a little sad that we didn’t get our own dedicated unique terminator unit like chaos corrupted Phoenix Terminators or something. But I can understand that it might come in wave 2 of the EC release in next edition. Though the whip in Lucious's arm makes me afraid. It does not look like it can survive any mode of transportation, too thin and very long, I can sense many reddit discussions "Lucious the eternal - fix the whip its breaks all the time!"
I don't own any of table figuring 😅. But, when I look between the old and the new, I think the old one look convincing (mostly the paints). The pale green paint from the redesign for the capes, and some of the noise marine weapons, and hairs, look kinda odd. Like it didn't go well with them at all. The leather look kinda clean, compared to Lucius old model it had gnarly version looking leathers with faces. The old one really bring out the horror of the grimdark compare to the new one. I think just some recoloring, are needed for the right person it will look good for the new models. That's just my honest opinion though. I like details for those hooves like boots though, that actually sick.
The sculpts are great but the color scheme is kind of my issue with the new models. I'd definitely am excited to see what other people come up with when the range comes out because I can see them looking better with the pre heresy purple and gold color scheme.
@@WhatareyouPaintingnow of course it takes less effort and research to produce reaction videos, but it doesn't feel low effort, because you guys obviously have a lot to say, and reaction to the current stuff seems to work a little bit better with the UA-cam algorithm. So I like both the fact that it can help you to attract more views (in theory at least) and the format itself.
I hate EC, but even i can say these new models are siiiiicccckkkk. Lucious looks amazing, and just all of these are sick. I dont like EC at all, but im still gonna buy some cause they look so fun to paint
I think they made them very well this time, just like the Dark Angels and Black templars. The blood angels however where mixed like the Sanguinary guard and death company where terrible, the Sanguinary priest is ok, but Astorath and Sanguinor are good.
If that is the case, a serious question why would they even try to please you? If that is point one there is no point trying to please someone you can't please. With comments like that they are guaranteed not listen - Cal
@@WhatareyouPaintingnow so if the bare minimum isnt enough you should get nothing got it need to praise their every move, thats how things improve never give any criticism or else things might stay the same logic
15:40 >if you didn't look close enough they could be for other legions. Good. Other legions have noise marines. Im planning on painting up everything in that box as word bearers. Im sure their are black legion and night lords players that plan on doing the same.
I think my main complaint comes from forgetting to think of these as the baseline to be modified. I definitely wanted more body horror, sadism and mutations. The only visible mutation here is tonguewhip guy, which I find somewhat underwhelming compared to the other 3 chaos gods or even the generic unaffiliated Chaos Space Marine minis. As for sadism, I think I saw one severed hand dangling from a hook between one guys legs, and that was it. I would have liked to see more severed limbs and flayed faces hanging from bits of their armour like purity seals on a Sister of Battle. And as for the body horror, I've seen worse at fetish conventions in real life, and given how over the top crazy and extreme 40k is supposed to be, these examples here just feel tame and "safe". Give me some Terminators with tentacles bursting out of their armour, their powerfists replaced with a Slaanesh daemon crab claws, one of them with a two foot long metal rod straight through his thigh and two or three eldar skulls hanging from it. Maybe I'm messed up because my own army is so crazy over the top by default, because I DO paint, in fact I modify and paint Sisters of Battle as my army of choice, so I very much understand what you mean by "Chaos trim". I just expected a bit more from the Space Marine version of Drukhari.
3:11 does... that head not look mutated enough? Does the skin pulled over some of the specialized models, not look mutated enough? Does the Eldar helmets, overgrown with flesh not look mutated enough?
Let me tell you what the gripe with the new EC is. They missed the opportunity to make them even more weird and experimental, in the vain of DG range is. While the new Death Guard range is miles high in terms of weird and experiment compared to the old Death Guard models, the new EC are fuckin tame in comparison. No big mystery there, just a missed opportunity and ultimately a failed outcome of what they should represent. They didn't have the courage!
I'm in the camp of really liking the emperor's children models. Great conversion fodder for night lords. Might pick some up and paint them as garish as possible. Do hope we get some proper crack head cultists like those in the ciaphas Cain books
This video doesn't have enough detail, there should be a full animated intro, an original score composed by John Williams, and that Cal guy needs to be recast, I'll call and see if Hugh Jackman is available (a short phone call later) bad news guys he said no (sorry Sunny) and in worst news I can no longer enter international waters....don't ask.
100% my friend ~Sunny
They did not nail the assignment. Base infantry look great. Flawless blades are ok. Noise marines are a 6/10. Lord is good. Everything else was awful.
@spookrockcity "everything else was awful"? Why?
@@spookrockcity you say everything else but that literally only leaves Lucius and whichever lord you weren't referring to, so seems a bit overstated there.
These models look sick, the other day, on Discord, I told a friend about how their armour looks a bit Eldar, likely due to the Slaaneshi influence.
Also all my Emperor's Children and Slaanesh loving friends love these models.
Well it seems we are all thinking the same thing ~Sunny
I wouldn't be surprised if Slaanesh liked taking a form similar to an Eldar god as a form of twisted mockery towards the race that spawned it.
Pretty sure some people will hate anything GW does because it's GW.
That's fair, that's why we thought it might be good to talk about things in an objective light, there are certain points others have brought up that I would agree with but a lot of the other points seemed unnecessarily nitpicky I think more storytelling and visual context is being shown in these models as a whole ~Sunny
I hate them but i do like the majority of the minis they bring out....nothing not to like about these.
I love the EC models, theyre so gross and repulsive. They're exactly what a Slaanesh corrupted Marine should look like
Yeah, we honestly don't know what people are complaining about they are not the blood angel redesign at all, absolutely choc full of character - Cal
This chick is annoying af
@@WARSMITHAFROW I think this is especially true for Lucius, the colour scheme really downplays all the detail in his armour
GW really should’ve shown it, but in a shot during the reveal livestream they showed briefly other heads for the Flawless Blades models, and there is a head in the kit that is almost an EXACT match for the classic artwork you were comparing to. It’s… Perfection

Hopefully you like some more of the pictures and the words we say 😁 - Cal
It seems to have been a real marmite reaction and I think it comes from people having expectations because of stuff like the guitar noise marine which was never going to be, and never has been, an actual part of official 40k design (if anyone wants to argue that point, it's a promo collector piece just for fun, based on an old miniature from the rogue trader era, so before 40k was really its own properly established thing). So they had these unrealistic expectations of something really dramatically out there, and have not felt these meet that, but they never were going to.
@@UnderChromey tho let's not pretend that noise marines with guitars would've been badass

Yeah I was in disbelief at some of the comments I think these are fantastic
I can understand the disbelief but I was expecting it! - Cal
I loved how gw combined the old slaanesh artwork and the new noise marine design. They look so brutal and prideful
Totally agree. I can’t wait to see what talented painters do with him and the range!
I appreciate them even more now that you made the video.
Please, a colour psychology video about pink!
Remember only if we can do at least four videos about it 😝 ~Sunny
I've been an EC fan since Rogue Trader, and I absolutely LOVE these models. People complaining about their look are way off base. These models just need more animal print!
4:06 so the Adrian smith artwork head is in the flawless blade model, it’s an optional head seen in the background of the reveal images
Nice options are always good ~Sunny
I think the main criticism comes from people expecting more body horror like how the old noise marine upgrade sprue showed their hand fusing with the sonic blaster while what we got is a cleaner look. Although the cleaner look makes sense specifically for Emperors Children, most people were expecting them to lean in on the horror. Such as the skin pulled over the armour having screaming faces/stitched together, more twisted/modified armour. I think kitbashers are going to have a field day with these.
I totally agree the kitbashers are going to have a field day! - Cal
I don't play EC, but these models look pretty cool, and it's a much needed range refresh too.
Yeah they are great but not as great as seeing you in the comments 😉 - Cal
I think the reason some people are dissapointed at every release is because theyve just hyped up their faction their guys that their expectstions are just impossible to meet
Low testosterone males. That's what they are.
Can't please everyone am I right? 🙃 ~Sunny
Isn't that what kit bashing is for? I'm afraid the new comers don't grasp that.
People were expecting each marine to have 10 schlongs and twenty tits ofc they would be dissapointed
The new Lucius has actually become one of my favourite all-time chaos models. I think he looks perfect.
Great model I agree 👍 - Cal
I still can't understand why some people go "these models are so letdowns from old"
Dude I checked old noise marines and they were just random horned guys with weird guns
I like the old ones they have character... But you're not wrong though - Cal
Yeah people in our discord showed us that after we put this up, this video was super raw - Cal
I'm buying all of them that come out.
You do you. If it brings you happiness don't let people take it from you - Cal
I do wish they painted Lucius' armor more fleshy than black where the faces are.
I like the way they did it seems like screaming souls, but i can see why you say that - Cal
I do think that it works nicely since it gives the eye something to follow with the elixirs to the Head ,to its tongue, to the whip through the arm, them the skin armor on the leg, back to the whip and to the sharp ends ending near the sword.
Im gonna buy him and paint him pink
@@WhatareyouPaintingnowI guess I'm just a fan of how they did the old model and concept art. His armor is literally flesh!
His paint scheme slightly reminds me of Morbid Angel's album art for
Altars of Madness
Honestly, I think the ec models are the best out of the four chaos alligned. They definitely convey that body horror and cenobite look, especially the alternative heads for the faultless blades. I think maybe gw could give players the option for more detailed pieces or simpler pieces as an upgrade sprew. That way I think it pleases both parties but honestly, I think these are detailed enough and look amazing.

I watched your video and I have seen other youtubers analyzing/critiquing these models. I agree with you quite a bit. I also think these models are really well done. 😊
If I may ask, what did you like about our analysis compared to the others, and yeah we agree we think they look great - Cal
Loving some of these conversations where people are having interesting positive conversations - Cal
And it's that a good thing - Cal
@WhatareyouPaintingnow I'm pleased with this, as far as I see it anyone that says "it's not enough" are the ones that want slaanesh daemons naked and are mad they're not.
To be fair those old old metal models were the best sculpts ever of the Slannesh demonettes and them being naked wasn't everything it was how feminine the sculpt was. GW seems to have a very hard time doing feminine sculpts - Cal
I like how there's talk about upcoming modelsand new stuff
Because "silence offends Slaanesh"
Well no one will be 'offended by this quiet" because it certainly isn't quiet - Cal
I personally found myself disappointed at first because I was hoping for more mutations, but honestly, I've done a complete 180 on these models and I'm gonna try and pick up the box set
We love seeing people change their minds it means you put some thought into it rather than having a knee jerk reaction - Cal
Hey, hey, stop making sense some of these people can read ya know 😛 - Cal
no that wast even their original phalosaphy they turned everything into art because art was forbidden before fulgrim liberated their world. fulgrim happens to be vary beautiful so they also look beautiful but art can be disturbing as well. they are more interested in perfect form and action which dose note mean butty. now they are looking for the extremes in sensation they literally self flagellate Luciase cuts his own face they also feel what others feel around them so they like to inflict pain and suffering on others as well.
Literally my only complaint is that the Noise Marines aren't using guitars. Which, like, I get why. But come on, everyone loves the classic mini of the Noise Marine shredding on his guitar lol
It would be nice if we could get an upgrade kit to have a whole band, base, drums and even a keytair - Cal
- Cal
I love the models. The only nitpick I have is that pink and black color scheme always reminds me of an old car from the 50s. 😂
Ha ha I see but that is always something you can change - Cal
One day I’ll paint my last Imperial Aquila..
I love the look of these EC I agree with you both!

The Emperors Children are as they always have been, perfect! 😅❤️👍🏻
honestly the first thing that came to my mind when seeing for first the flawless blade i thought it was a mock to the custodes because... banana boys, in a similar way that they mock the emperium by still using the "for the emperor" warcry
I hope this also but this why we wanted to wait for the sprues - Cal
@@exquisitecorpse__ no it's just that people don't like new things.
These ones just lacking

im a big emperors children fan and i was a little disappointed with this reveal, but this vid has massively warmed me up to these minis
Oh yeah?!! Nice I'm really glad to hear that what parts of what we said made you want to give it a chance? ~Sunny

I’ve seen so many negative video titles about the new EC models, but I absolutely love them, they hit it out the park even better than I could’ve imagined, I think people just wanna be negative just to be negative at this point to get clicks and feed off controversy; I just like cool models to paint
It is a shame that the negativity is the hot topic when they are so good, but we do like cool models to paint too! If a little exhausting ha ha ~Sunny
I don't know who you've been paying attention to but most Emperors Children fans (myself included) and content creators love the new range.
There are a lot of people out there like that. Hell just check the comments - Cal
Of course he didn't need them... But did he want them? 🤣😂🤣 😛 - Cal
Love the new EC models. Especially the Flawless Blades.
The flawless blades are great , I think that they were a great addition to the emperor's children - Cal
maybe just me but i find it interesting some of the emperors children replace their own skulls with helmets, atleast it looks like they did seeing as the skin is contorted and stretched over astarte or even eldar helmets that way
The new models are solid! Homage to the old models and paint job. Being said that some of the models will benefit from custom paintjobs. Most of the critique comes from people who mix up art that come from later years and how actual models should look in their head canon.
nope
It doesn't make a lot of sense to us either that is why we made this video - Cal
simple! excess we want more, no clue what exactly but more ! personally I want an even more adult NSFW set of GW models, but cant wait to start painting these
i wish the skin on his leg was 40k Fulgrims snake skin with color switch paint
I won't lie it's the price - Cal
@@WhatareyouPaintingnow Oh for sure. In America it's already absurd, in Australia it's downright insane, and it's constantly getting worse. The price is going to bring down GW eventually, when the price gets too much for even the most passionate fans.
In Australia it is insanity, like Call of Cthulhu insanity, merely knowing about the existence of such prices can drive people mad - Cal
The only thing that i could nitpick about is that i wish there was a nice slaanesh vehicle, dreadnought or monster (aside from fulgrim). But i am really happy overall.
Yeah you are not the only person wanting that, I think upgrade kits are what we need! - Cal
Well we don't know what is included as options in the codex yet... so don't despair yet... but I can totally understand your fears - Cal
At this point I have no clue what most GW 'fans,' are complaining about for most of the models they hate.
I understood Coteaz, and (even though I love them,) the Sanguinary Guard.
My biggest complaint they are not out yet!😂
They will be out in no time soon 😊 - Cal
Lucius the enteral"gooood...you hate fuels me..hahahahahahah"!!!!!
This is true 😎 they are very detailed ~Sunny
I really dig the new models. My only complaint is that i honestly wish they went more insane in a goofy way alongside the body horror. Like the Noise Marines having the legit Guitar bolters and doing pete Townshend powerslides and stuff. And I wish every model had high heels like Lucius...
You just don't like new things.
I *really* like these minis. Even though I don't play 40k anymore, I'm kinda tempted to buy some lol.
They do have some pretty fun bits definitely great for conversion especially for Nightlords ~Sunny
I am not really a fan of EC but I do like the Kakophani. I was looking forward to the release. These models are beautiful and I am looking forward to building an EC army.
It's so funny seeing the opposite opinions on the same model! But that's great that means people are passionate about it! - Cal
I agree guys, I really love the models. They look really cool and compared to say the Blood Angels who were much more hit or miss they seemed to have killed it. With that said I do get the issue with GW constantly releasing new armies with only a few units. We know the Grey Knights need to be redone.
Thanks man! I'm glad you enjoyed it, grey knights update would be cool to see 👀 ~Sunny
Agree 100% planning to fully buy the army and I don’t get a lot of the complaints
🤨 ~Sunny
My only complaint is no Eidolon
Well I think the old rockers said it best...
You can't always get what you want, but if you try some times...
You get what you need! - Cal
I love everything about the new EC, except Lucius' missing teeth
You're not the first person to say this, so your not alone - Cal
I love new EC models, a little sad that we didn’t get our own dedicated unique terminator unit like chaos corrupted Phoenix Terminators or something. But I can understand that it might come in wave 2 of the EC release in next edition. Though the whip in Lucious's arm makes me afraid. It does not look like it can survive any mode of transportation, too thin and very long, I can sense many reddit discussions "Lucious the eternal - fix the whip its breaks all the time!"
you bring up a good point there, well I suppose one way could be to magnetize the arm and store the whip separately when transporting ~Sunny
you fools, you forgot the most important of GW's customer groups--the people who want to complain about everything
I thought we didn't with the thumbnail and opening statement of "whatdawant" - Cal
Looks like my new favorite show on this channel
oh Yeah? You are liking this new free form format? We are trying something different ~Sunny
We actually talk about about that in our DvL blood angels video ~Sunny
where is the excess?
Eyes stapled open has zero excess? - Cal
0.1
If that is the case, a serious question why would they even try to please you? If that is point one there is no point trying to please someone you can't please. With comments like that they are guaranteed not listen - Cal
@@WhatareyouPaintingnow so if the bare minimum isnt enough you should get nothing
got it
need to praise their every move, thats how things improve
never give any criticism or else things might stay the same
logic
Do hope we get some proper crack head cultists like those in the ciaphas Cain books
totally agree, there's great conversion potential with these ~Sunny
This video doesn't have enough detail, there should be a full animated intro, an original score composed by John Williams, and that Cal guy needs to be recast, I'll call and see if Hugh Jackman is available (a short phone call later) bad news guys he said no (sorry Sunny) and in worst news I can no longer enter international waters....don't ask.
Aweee I thought I get to see huge Jacked man ~Sunny
1:35 diplomatic 😂
I guess - Cal
