I just purchased the Quansheng UV-R50 last night. I don't yet have my Armature license but plan on it soon. With everything going on in the world i figured I should secure a radio NOW instead of waiting. I was going to get the Baofeng but felt like I could do a little better so i'm happy to have found out about the reception on the Quansheng UV-R50. It's far better for receiving.
A. I got the Quansheng for like $15 off Amazon a few months ago. B. I've gotten good reports using the Quansheng as opposed to the Baofeng. C. RT Systems makes programming software for this radio. :)
Hi Mike, hope your keeping well? Good video :-) Got a few questions. As the lay out of the buttons is similar on both radios, i wonder if the inside of the radios are similar too? Importantly has the Quansheng got better components? On high power, will the radio keep your hands warm on long overs like the Baofeng? How bad is the supplied antenna? How long will the battery last? I look foward to future testing videos on this radio ATB 73 Ray 26CI\CT\FB2290
Hiya Ray, all good thanks. Hope you're keeping safe yourself. It wouldn't surprise me if most of the components inside were the same, albeit the filtering is better. As for the stock antenna I didn't use it haha. And for a hand warmer, I've not used it that much yet but I'll keep you posted :) All the best mate 73.
Informative Mike and thanks... look forward to your next broadcast. Dafydd M6ULU Update: Just ordered one..throw backpack! Upgrade 5W Quansheng UV-R50-2 probably same model!
The price is also a good right against the UV-5R. If they can add compatibility with CHIRP and if people can confirm that this hasn't got the spurious emmisions like the UV-5R then I think it's a winner.
Yes, most of these dual band radios have a lower output power level on VHF usually than UHF. Probably due to the fact that the range on VHF is somewhat a little better than UHF.
Thanks for sharing! Very interesting stuff!
Thanks for viewing, 73’

Great video Mike! 73
Could it be the bao has a flat battery maybe? What is a good antennae for the Quan
Fully charged for the purpose of the video. Baofeng radios are just rubbish to be honest.

Alan is a UA-cam star 😁👍 nice video bud - thanks for the content. 73
Hope all is well Sean, 73' mate.
Подскажите, как у неё проверить в меню уровень напряжения аккумулятора?
Did not notice a programming lead in the box. What cable will work with the Quansheng.
Mine didn't come with one, I used an old Baofeng UV5R lead.
@@OntheMicwithMike Thanks for the prompt reply. Will be fore warned now to purchase a cable as well. Cheers.

Many thanks Daffyd, stay safe mate 73'.
Very impressive and surprising

Please, do you know, if it is possible programming by Chirp? What to set the model? Thanks.
No it's not supported by chirp. Even trying other radio settings failed, you need to use their own software.
Handheld seems to work well even got me on WO :)
I knew I got the callsign wrong answering you 😂 excellent stuff, 73' Alan :)
I understand that at 145.500 the power is only 1.3 watts?

@@OntheMicwithMike still very strange. at maximum power, this device gives me about 5 watts. on both bands. maybe you had reduced power turned on?
Cn 446 be Progged on it Mike?
It can be yes :)
As of 2025, I believe the Chirp will still not program a Quansheng radio.
