r/woosh | Does no one get what @Cute Corgi is saying? Of course Cute Corgi knows who Stephen Hawking is. He's just pointing out the mispelling in the comment.
Juan de Dios Trujillo Delgado he went with another woman but he still loved her, Stephen knew this couldn’t keep going. Their marriage actually ended worse than this, it’s was a tragic spiral downhill. Jane would of went insane. Plus the child with Jonathan cemented the fact that the marriage was just a hanging on by a thread. They remained good friends after that with them and Stephen was happy with it.
@@MrKillroy26 It's obvious that we have different opinnions... my point of view is that " ok.. this is happening in my marriage .. let's think about a solution" instead of going with someone else , no matter what's the cost i am going to fight for my family..
Juan de Dios Trujillo Delgado sometimes you have to let go of someone you love for them to be happy. In his case there’s no “let’s work this out” option for him. It’s hard to do what he did and their divorce wasn’t this easy, his first wife came out after seeing the movie and said it was more like a downward spiral and it ended on a vacation where she and Stephen had a huge argument. It wasn’t easy and his disability took a huge toll on them.
I’m amazed at how Eddie was able to put on those facial expressions while keeping his body in the chair that way. It’s hard to portray a character like that. He must have put in a lot of efforts in this role.
Have you seen the behind the scenes? Whenever they said cut he would gasp and straighten up. Imagine having to do that (almost) every single day of the shoot - amazing!
I'm sure stephen knew that Jane was suffering and he knew he had to make the first move so that Jane can let go, to continue to love each other, they had to leave each other for a while
they divorced in the 90s and married other people, but they're still very much family to each other, and stephen spends a lot of time with Jane and her 2nd husband.
yes, bc i think jane loved steven so much and would never be the first person to leave him. but steven loved her enough to let her go and to allow her to rebuild her life
Believe it or not, he survived bcz of Jane and when She was forced to leave Stephan and make her career than Mason(2nd wife) did that for not love, for her self i mean its not like she wanted to kill Stephan but discovery say that she was a bully kind of person, she didn't care about Stephen as much Jane did, long story, but search. Rip Stephen Hawking ,
It's so heartbreaking. Maybe Stephen did make the first step, but I don't think he ever stopped loving Jane. I truly believe that if he'd never had ALS, they would have stayed together and have been happy. Jane loved Stephen very much. Stephen saw the stress and hardship he and his condition was putting on Jane. He saw that she loved him and wanted to stay with him, but this is one of those situations where you have to let someone go if you really love them. He allowed Jane to go live her life and be happy because he loved her. Because they ended it when they did, they were able to still love one another, and that love didn't turn into resentment on Jane's part and guilt on Stephen's.
i don't think they ever stopped loving each other. this scene actually captures just how much they love each other - jane feeling hurt and conflicted because she loves him so much and does not want to be the first person to leave, and stephen loving her enough to let her go.
It’s odd that you bring up ALS like this bc their love helped Hawking fight through the disease itself. Bit of a double-edged sword when you look at this way.
That's the point. You still love a pet you have to put down, but you're not experiencing the love in the same way as before. It's something warped, dark, it's an amalgination of its origin. It is "love", but in a tragic and sad way. That's why we weep at ut
this is such a beautiful moment, painful but beautiful. you can tell that she truly does love him despite what physical condition he's in but you can also see the emotional and physical toll its taking on her too. ive seen comments saying "why would she leave him?" and she left because even the most in love people have their limits. the love you see in movies where they battle things together and grow old together does happen but you rarely see the side that things just dont work out and its totally normal. love can conquer anything but not in everyone, she couldn't take the emotional stress and Stephen understood that.
+Charlie Davidson Basically, he's going off to America with another woman because he sees the emotional and physical toll its taking on his wife. She starts to realize with this that things arent the same with them and things are falling apart, that he has chosen to ask the other woman to fly with him. She accepts that things have changed despite the amount of love she has for him and lets him know that she has loved him through thick and thin and has tried her best.
I have loved you, I did my best - one of the most beautiful and heart-breaking quotes I ever heard from a movie in recent years. Love is everything, love can be unconditional, but love needs to be set free. She loves him with sacrifice all these years, but it's time to let her go and live her own life, her own happiness. Because she deserves it.
@@braceleerohith how did she cheat? She was not with Jonathan before this moment. Parts they leave out in lots of true stories would have been hard to impress the audience hence why they changed it to make it more effective. So if it was Stephen Hawking who chose to leave Jane then that wouldnt have been as emotional as it is in the film.
Benton Xavier it was not the disease. It was fame taking its toll on Stephen, the way he began treating Jane; mocking her religious views for example. Family stopped mattering to him as much ever since “A Brief History of Time” hit big. I don’t blame him. The same would happen to me too if I became famous. But I’m defending Jane. A person as good as her wouldn’t have given up just because she needed to take care of her husband
Basically, when Stephen was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease/ALS, this is where his doctor said that his life expectancy is 2 years... but he lived for 55 years more
When she said “I have loved you” it broke me because she really did, but they both have grown so tired. That scene brought tears to my eyes, but then when it showed his heart breaking reaction, I burst into tears and had to pause it. I cried for 5 minutes, blew my nose and continued watching it. This movie brought so much emotion, I love it! Eddie really deserved that Oscar!
I’ll never understand the criticism around their relationship. Sometimes loving someone means letting them go, that doesn’t mean loving them any less. And leaving the people you care about doesn’t mean you will stop caring.
I read an interview from Stephen Hawking that he mainly left Jane for Elaine because Jonathan was very much in the picture more than the film portrays. He was living with them and helping out, and the connection between Jane and Jonathan was evidently strong, it's even implied that they may have had a more open affair within the house and Stephen was tired of it. Whether it's the film or real life, he let Jane go so she can be with Jonathan and Elaine would prioritize him.
I’ve taken care of 3 ALS patients in their own homes and I can say this movie captures so much of what happens with this crippling disease. I cried so much because I could relate it to the things i’ve seen. I am amazed by the willpower of the patients and their loved ones for being able to endure so much.
His first wife “Jane “ , they separated in 1990, and divorced five years later. In 1997, she married musician Jonathan Hellyer Jones. However, she continued to support her ex-husband due to his health problems as he continued to work. Dr Hawking married “ Elaine Mason “ in September 1995. The marriage lasted eleven years before the couple got a quiet divorce in 2006, with the rumored reason being that Hawking had cheated on “Mason “ with one of his caregivers, although the rumor was strongly denied.
I watched this scene soon after Stephen Hawking's passing. It really moved me when his character said "Everything will be ok." I thought how empty these words sounded now that he is dead and is no longer there to comfort anyone. RIP.
If people could stop saying they hate Stephen just because he is an athiest, that would be great. What if you had no idea what his religion or belief is? Would you be supportive of him, then? I wonder f the hypocritical Christians realize that they're going against their own beliefs of God when they're bringing down someone else for THEIR beliefs. I'm not Christian myself, but I know for a fact that Christians are supposed to accept and sympathize with everyone, despite their choices in life. I'm uh... I'm just saying. Thanks.
I agree. My family saw the movie and hated him. (They are very very catholic). I said why? And they came up with excuses like he cheated on her, he likes the american nurse more than her, she took care of him, etc. They dont realize that Jane cheated on him first! (In the film)
+PapaKay Yeah, I'm much more against Jane than poor Stephen. She was starting to get frustrated taking care if her own crippled husband. I don't blame him for liking his nurse, she was gentle and patient with him, like Jane should have been. I know it must get pretty hard and wear you down having to care for a grown man, but still... It wasn't his fault he happened to have a degenerative disease. Plus, he gave her children. The least she could have done was feel obligated to care for him. I am glad they continued to be friends after she left him, though. You don't see that often.
+cannibalJoker i'm not against stephen, but she is very loyal to him,she is gentle and patient at first but after years of doing it it's must be hard for her, it wasn't jane's fault that she needed some one to help her to take care her husband and children, and it's sad that he decided to marry his nurse after all the thing jane has done to him for 30 years
PapaKay actually jane doesn't want to marry jonathan although she likes him because she love stephen but stephen decided to marry his nurse after they divorced jane doesn't marry jonathan after awhile jane and jonathan decided to marry
no matter how much his voluntary muscles gave up on him, when he cried, his emotions broke out and changed his physical expression. that was brilliant to see
Heartbreaking because Stephen broke up with Jane to give her a livelihood having supported him and the children after many years. An incredible film and superb performances from Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones.
one of the most heartbreaking scenes i have ever witnessed. felicity jones has stated that after this scene was filmed the 2 of them were emotionally drained and she has never hugged a fellow actor so tight because eddie redmayne had her that upset with his performance.
1:41 it's heartbreaking how he moved his chair towards her without being able to take her in his arms pause at 1:50, you can feel like he's stilm embracing her though he can't stand up
When I see him smiling, a smile appears involuntarily on my face. However, his tears break my heart and squeeze my own tears that run down my cheeks. A wonderfully played role!!!
Watching this scene just breaks my heart...and now watching it after hearing about his passing just breaks me even more...you will be missed, Mr. Hawking
Say what you want but for me this will forever be the most beautiful scene I've ever seen on tv. It is so raw, real and heartbreaking it cracks me up every time
Is anybody here after finding out that he was on Epstein‘s list? And then you found out he cheated on the 1st nurse for another nurse and he got a raise out of making the 1st nurse miserable I just wanted to look at the scene in the movie now that I know who he truly is
So heres how it went Stephen was in love with jane and jane was in love with him, they were happy, until ALS came in, jane knew she had to help so she did, she did everything she could, but she started getting fustrated and angry, over the years of their marriage stephen saw this, he knew he had to do something for Jane to be happy and free from ALS, stephen knew he couldnt be free but atleast he could help someone be free. So he made the first move to make Jane finally let go.
This scene was so hard to watch. I first thought Stephen was being egotistical the way he looked so casual about it at first, but only later I realised he just wanted to set her free. Talk about the extreme loyalty from Jane, she would've remained with him until the day he died no matter how hard it would've been to make it work...
It's so romantic and at the same time so sad, Jane sacrificed for him and Stephen for her too...but they did not manage to make their love last for ever
The way he cried made me cry like a kid, it was sooo full of emotion. So heartbreaking and I just wished I could have hugged him through the screen honestly. Also reminded me about how I broke up with my ex since it went in a similar fashion with the words and how he cried... and that was insanely unexpected so I guess that explains the exaggerated waterworks lol
The saddest thing is when a couple who love each other have to part ways, either because staying together becomes risky or because they cannot make it work...
I've always looked up to Stephen Hawking as an intellectual point and when he passed I have to admit I cried. Relatives of mine have passed due to ALS or ( Motoneuron ) although I have only been to see the most recent before she passed. When she took it too bad she had a wheelchair and speech generating device and I remember thinking that's what it reminded me of and she laughed at it too. She loved her sister ( my Granny ) and her budgie 😄 I didn't have many moments with her but I remember when we laughed about that.
Je n'aime pas beaucoup cet acteur de base, mais alors là, il faut avouer que son personnage est extrêmement bien joué ! Impressionnant de réalisme. Il mérite vraiment son oscar !
It just wasn’t fair for Stephen. Just because he has ALS, it doesn’t mean Jane should break up with him. Everyone is different yet you can’t just not love them anymore! This scene was so heartbreaking and I love it.
@@JoelWitt-y5w yeah I know. But you said it wasn't fair for Stephen and Jane broke up with him because he has ALS. That isn't true. If she's wrong for breaking up with him then he's wrong for getting with his nurse. That's what I was getting at.
This is my favourite scene! I love Eddie Redmayne and Stephen Hawking. I've been a fan of Stephen Hawking's books. I just wished he had never died. I was always reading his books. Eddie Redmayne should've got an oscar for this film he is fantastic. I love him so much. Rest In Piece Stephen Hawking 💔
Her best got him 50 + years of life she is an amazing woman. I understand her dilemma she had to live here life too but before that she gave him everything 😢.
The first impression I got from this scene is that Stephen was an a-hole. After everything Jane did, Stephen ended up walking away. Now, someone may say that he did it to set Jane free, but reading biographies, a consensus exists that he had actually grown closer to Elaine Mason (the nurse whose husband at the time provides Stephen's computer chair). That's why he invites her to America. The movie attempts to say that the split was rather amicable where both parties recognized that it's not working, but in reality, Stephen walked away with another woman in sight. If I cry with this scene, I cry because of Jane...because after putting up with 30 years of taking care of him, he throws it away. It's almost like he didn't appreciate all the effort she put into their marriage.
You are wrong, she was also emotionally cheating on him with someone else and he figured that out and let her go. That's how he got involved with another woman. Read it up.
Stephen and Jane got married very young. Young couples that get married often end up growing apart. They got married when they did because Stephen thought he only had 2 years to live. He wanted to get married and become a father before he died. It was a bucket list thing. The doctors and even Stephen himself, thought he would live this long.
Stop excusing his infidelity, it wasn’t his illness, it wasn’t a mistake, it wasn’t some excusable unfortunate event, it’s a choice made by a piece of garbage human being who only cared about his own wants and joy and completely disregarded not only the happiness of one of the most loyal and caring people in his life but took a big fat dump all over any meaningfulness of the word “relationship” You don’t love someone if you can even fathom cheating on them, end of discussion, he deserved to be left in the dust and should warrant no sympathy for his selfish actions, Love and loyalty are inseparable, without loyalty love is nothing but a bold faced lie you tell someone in order to trick them into thinking your someone you’re not.
Stephen Hawking doesn't divorce his wife because he thinks she loves Jonathan. Stephen Hawking divorce his wife because he fells in love with Elison. Stephen got married to Elison just after few months of divorce while Jane Hawking remarry Jonathan after two years.
The fact that the real Stephen Hawkins cried watching this movie speaks volumes of the actors dedication and the writers desire to stay as true as possible to the real story

It is IMPOSSIBLE to hold back the tears! So beautiful! God bless!
Richie Daniel seriously
Imagine being such great actors that you can make millions cry by a dialogue with a robot voice
oh my god, the expression he makes is so hearthbreaking...
The quality of the acting from these two is astounding, everytime I see this scene it gets me, literally breath-taking.
I’ve taken care of 3 ALS patients in their own homes and I can say this movie captures so much of what happens with this crippling disease. I cried so much because I could relate it to the things i’ve seen. I am amazed by the willpower of the patients and their loved ones for being able to endure so much.
His first wife “Jane “ ,
they separated in 1990, and divorced five years later.
He didn't cheat. There was apparently evidence of abuse toward him by Elaine and his family found out about it.
Stop spreading lies.
Rip Stephen Hawking; you were an inspiration to all *and still are.* (8th January 1942 - 14th March 2018)
Such a powerful scene.. Eddie's acting was simply breathtaking
+cannibalJoker i'm not against stephen, but she is very loyal to him,she is gentle and patient at first but after years of doing it it's must be hard for her, it wasn't jane's fault that she needed some one to help her to take care her husband and children, and it's sad that he decided to marry his nurse after all the thing jane has done to him for 30 years
Arsyiza 25 yeah but jane remarried... so how can you say its sad that stephen did the same?
PapaKay actually jane doesn't want to marry jonathan although she likes him
because she love stephen
but stephen decided to marry his nurse
after they divorced jane doesn't marry jonathan
after awhile jane and jonathan decided to marry
Stephen Is leaving Jane. That is evident when she Says 'I have loved you. I did my best'.
Natalie Zayas-Bazan He didn't leave her, he set her free so she will no longer suffer and be with Jonathan, the man she loved and would care for her.
Well.. he actually wrote her a letter to tell her he left her.
2:16 Thats where he won an oscar 😍😍
no matter how much his voluntary muscles gave up on him, when he cried, his emotions broke out and changed his physical expression. that was brilliant to see
i cried and i wish that Steven and Jane would stay together but i think he made the right choice to make her stop being stressed
His screen as the tears fall. Literally searching for the right words to say
very powerful. emotional at that moment when Stephen hawking found hope again, in himself
The little, “Everything will be ok.” and the sad smile.
1:41 it's heartbreaking how he moved his chair towards her without being able to take her in his arms
pause at 1:50, you can feel like he's stilm embracing her though he can't stand up
You can watch this scene out of context randomly and still cry immediately. Such amazing acting and music.
Its so crazy to think that in this condition he still went to the kiddie island on J.E's jet.
Oh man, when the piano starts playing and he starts crying, gets me every damn time it’s so heartbreaking 😢
When he said “ everything will be ok “ I felt that 😔😢😭
This movie never fails to impress me
I litteraly cried 18 times while watching This movie , so many manly tears );
When I see him smiling, a smile appears involuntarily on my face. However, his tears break my heart and squeeze my own tears that run down my cheeks. A wonderfully played role!!!
why are my eyes sweating?
Dice you live in South America? I heard the seasons are opposite there, and you sweat during summertime.
Olivia Petrowski tf
Eyes cant sweat....
:p
sorry i left my bowl of onions there
Watching this scene just breaks my heart...and now watching it after hearing about his passing just breaks me even more...you will be missed, Mr. Hawking
He got over his breakup by going to the island.
Broke down at this scene. Just totally shattered.
This scene is the most perfect example of how unfair life can be
Even if you aren't a Felicity Jones fan you can't deny she's touching in this scene
This is the part where I cried the most. This is the best film Based on a real history that I've seen so far.
Say what you want but for me this will forever be the most beautiful scene I've ever seen on tv. It is so raw, real and heartbreaking it cracks me up every time
"crack me up" is an expression for laughing, but I get what you mean
@@mastereppsreturns6586 hahahah
This scene still makes me cry. 😭😭😭😭😭
Is anybody here after finding out that he was on Epstein‘s list? And then you found out he cheated on the 1st nurse for another nurse and he got a raise out of making the 1st nurse miserable I just wanted to look at the scene in the movie now that I know who he truly is
He's not on the list but he did cheat on women
@@luisalfonsocecilio7374but he is on the list tho
The silent moments in this scene are the best. So much is being said as they just look at each other. Great acting by both.
I haven’t even seen this movie and I’m addicted to these movie clips.
Rest In Peace
So heres how it went
Stephen was in love with jane and jane was in love with him, they were happy, until ALS came in, jane knew she had to help so she did, she did everything she could, but she started getting fustrated and angry, over the years of their marriage stephen saw this, he knew he had to do something for Jane to be happy and free from ALS, stephen knew he couldnt be free but atleast he could help someone be free. So he made the first move to make Jane finally let go.
His face after Jane told him how many years he has left 😭
This scene was so hard to watch. I first thought Stephen was being egotistical the way he looked so casual about it at first, but only later I realised he just wanted to set her free. Talk about the extreme loyalty from Jane, she would've remained with him until the day he died no matter how hard it would've been to make it work...
It's so romantic and at the same time so sad, Jane sacrificed for him and Stephen for her too...but they did not manage to make their love last for ever
He loved her so much that he had to let her go, all he wanted was for her to be happy
One of the finest acting pieces. I so loved this scene!
"I have loved you, I did my best" is always gonna be my favourite line from my favourite movie aghhh
A Great mind never dies.
R.I.P to this legendary scientist and human being.
Il mérite vraiment son oscar !
i burst into tears when he cried.
Felicity should have won the Oscar! Amazing performance!
I cant believe he just past away 13/3/18 rest in peace
It just wasn’t fair for Stephen. Just because he has ALS, it doesn’t mean Jane should break up with him. Everyone is different yet you can’t just not love them anymore! This scene was so heartbreaking and I love it.
I mean he left her for his nurse so...
@@JB-bm1to But understand what they have been through together!
@@JoelWitt-y5w yeah I know. But you said it wasn't fair for Stephen and Jane broke up with him because he has ALS. That isn't true. If she's wrong for breaking up with him then he's wrong for getting with his nurse. That's what I was getting at.
Most heartbreaking scene of the movie. I cried so bad.
I still crying over this scene. Iconic one. So powerful.
Eddie is one of the greatest actors of today
He just wanted her to be happy and free again 😞
Her best got him 50 + years of life she is an amazing woman. I understand her dilemma she had to live here life too but before that she gave him everything 😢.
It Just Breaks My Heart When I See Him Cry
His tears were heart breaking and so emotional
100 movies already watched but this 3:20 clip is the most powerful scene
Eddie Redmayne AND Felicity Jones were amazing in this film I love this masterpiece
He deserves the Oscar award 🥇
...
I don't think the professor cheated but that was his way to initiate conversation in that direction.
Like you’ve never cheated in your life 😂
@@kjd-s5b cheating in a relationship is nigh incomparable to cheating in a test, or a game
😭😭😭😭😭 He loved her so much and chooses to let her go so she could have normal life and be with Jonathan.
coldblood008 how do you know. Tf
you bought her book?
what's the tittle of her book? how could he be terrible? i cant believe it 😢😭
Stephen Hawking doesn't divorce his wife because he thinks she loves Jonathan. Stephen Hawking divorce his wife because he fells in love with Elison. Stephen got married to Elison just after few months of divorce while Jane Hawking remarry Jonathan after two years.
