Stephen Hawking's life has inspired me not to give up the fight, and as long as i still have movement, i will carry on working as a heavy equipment technician. I may not be able to change the world doing this job, but i hope that in some small way that i am making some kind of contribution to mankind.

Alan, I think that in your own way you are just as great a man as Stephen Hawking. I really do believe this. Goodonya, mate. You’ve already started to change the world - and this here is the living proof of it (not me, but all those who have heard what you say or seen what you do).
We make our contributions to the world one interaction at a time. You are as well placed as the majority of us to make a difference in the lives of all those you encounter. Cheers!
Although Mr. Hawking's physical shelter proved to be a challenge, He was able to overcome by making his mind powerful. Such a beautiful mind indeed. I know someday We will all be able to talk to him again.. And that would a thing of marvel. R.I.P. Stephen Hawking and thank you.
His handicap was actually only physical, so his mind was the same as everyone else’s. But you are right, I think a lot of people would’ve gone down into a deep hole and never gotten up again, if diagnosed with motor neurone disease. Stephen got up from that hole and contributed with something so uncomprehendingly large that enlightened the entire world.

I have been depressed and felt like a failure for the past year and a half. I beat myself up and my family feels like it's falling apart with my parents getting a divorce and being homeless etc. I messed up my degree from how hard I've found it to get out of bed. Hawking's words made me smile and somewhat reassured that no matter how hard life can get, there is something you can do and succeed, the key is not to give up and where there is life, there is hope c:
Insomniac Just make sure those are shot-term goals. I myself am extremely depressed, so I know the darkness you are in. Never give up. Even when you're drowning in your own tears in bed alone, move along and fight until the very end, whatever end that may be. Never trust your emotions while depressed--they're all untrue. Think of your depression as a bad dream that will eventually be over. You'll survive. You can and you will. :)
Hold on people, I have been depressed myself, all these things will pass and you will find peace of mind again. From time to time life brings you to the worst and the best places and you will find ways to deal with it. And it may sound cliché but what doesn't kill will make you stronger, it's very true for a depression, because after your depression you will no longer be the person you where before. I wish you all well, hold on because there is light at the end of the tunnel.
In one of Dr Stephen Hawking's books he wrote "time is just a device to stop everything happening at once", a very profound thought and concept when you think about it. So very sorry Dr Hawking had such severe physical disabilities for most of his life, but there was nothing wrong with his mind. He was greatly loved and admired.

"So, remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet" ....Awe inspiring🙌🏽The man, his story, contributions to humanity....R.I.P. Dr. Hawking😪
What has he contributed other than locating black holes or other celestial realms that have not helped mankind in any way. Millions are still starving. Still living far below poverty. Unable to access medical care all over the world. So there are black holes in the universe, so there are other celestial realms outside our universe. Humanity can't change any of that. BILLIONS of dollars wasted when it could have been used to actually benefit mankind rather than satisfying the egotistical curiosities of this man and others like him.
The fact that we humans, who are ourselves mere collections of fundamental particles of nature, have been able to come to an understanding of the laws governing us, and our universe, is a great triumph. I want to share my excitement and enthusiasm about this quest. So remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. It matters that you don't just give up. Thank you for listening.' - Stephen Hawking.
I don't have enough faith to believe humans are mere collections of materials. I don't even have enough faith to believe that a simple stopwatch could come into existence without a designer.
"Look up at the stars and not down at your feet." This sentence hit in many differnt ways and generally something so perfect for Stephen Hawkin to say. Truly an inspirational man.
There is nothing to be found in the stars. No savior, no hope. Not something we are looking for. Those things are further beyond. There is no other planet able to bear us because we aren't worthy, because we couldn't keep THIS one running in harmony. If we ruined the only habitable planet we had, that means we didn't deserve others. Do not look at the stars for hope. The hope is far beyond the stars.
@@Leadblast I 100% agree with you but I was also thinking that even if we kept our home on Earth perfect and all good from greenhouse gases, Climate Change, natural disasters, diseases, etc we would still have the risk of eventually the sun dying and if not that, us getting hit by an asteroid so I think in order for the human races survival into the future we need to get off this planet and learn how to adapt and survive on others in order to sustain life continually.
And then Corona Virus steps on the scene, and everyone looses their minds, forgetting about hope, and living life, but acting in fear. FEAR KILLS HOPE.
Never had more respect for a human I've never actually met. It was a pleasure exsisting in the same era you lived in. Wished we could of had a chat or more but as it be, i hope we meet in whatever lies after this life. RIP hero of humanity

Had this great genuine believed & confide in something greater than flesh & blood, he probably would have said, “look to the stars, yes, but also beyond them.
He would have died with the hopes & spiritual beliefs of his genius predecessor. Not just in the sciences but in the humanities as well.
His scope may not have ever been limited, but his hopes were in this which cannot be trusted beyond death.
But then again, why should the divine need anyone or anything to believe in the enormity of Its existence.
Either way, there seems to be enough on the table to eventually fly at the speed of light and put its finger on anything absolute.
May he Rest In Peace(RIP), because now he has seen something more enormous beyond the material truth of his, I.e., “boundless reality.”

Hawking's words made me smile and somewhat reassured that no matter how hard life can get, there is something you can do and succeed, the key is not to give up and where there is life, there is hope c:
Find yourself a goal, most people get depressed because they have no focal point in life. I wish you all the best :)
1366solar thank you for the advice i will try to find a focus c:
Insomniac Just make sure those are shot-term goals. I myself am extremely depressed, so I know the darkness you are in. Never give up. Even when you're drowning in your own tears in bed alone, move along and fight until the very end, whatever end that may be. Never trust your emotions while depressed--they're all untrue. Think of your depression as a bad dream that will eventually be over. You'll survive. You can and you will. :)
ArminVonLiberty wow thank you that helped c: sorry to hear you are suffering too but you are right thank you for your amazing advice

The fact that we humans, who are ourselves mere collections of fundamental particles of nature, have been able to come to an understanding of the laws governing us, and our universe, is a great triumph. I want to share my excitement and enthusiasm about this quest. So remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet.
