- Yemen's Iranian-backed Houthi rebels say they shot down a U.S. drone and severely damaged a British-owned cargo ship in a missile attack early Monday morning. This comes after a series of self-defense strikes by the U.S. military over the weekend on Houthi targets. CBS News national security correspondent David Martin has more.

Essentially, yes, because the economic fallout if these Houthi attacks continue to divert cargo ships to longer routes is going to be devastating. More to Europe than the US, though. India gets stung badly too. Do the math on the ton-miles, baby, do the math.

We wasted trillions on aircraft carriers and fighter jets that are obsolete in a modern war. This is why we only pick on countries that can't fight back. We still can't defeat them.
I'm not finding confirmation it sunk. Just Houthi claims, and we do know it took on water. I believe the ship was well outside of immediate US / UK protection -- at any one time the US likely only has 3 Arleigh-Burke destroyers near Yemen, with a 4th likely making a resupply run. We've struck a lot of Houthi resources but they have a big inventory from Iran & some of the terrain is quite helpful to them (not just flat open desert!)...
Gaza? Forget about it. The Israelis will fight with handguns if they have to, and by then Hamas will be down to even less. Besides, if the US refrains from arming Israel, then Hezbollah will attack in earnest, which forces the US to take out Hezbollah or maybe see the thing go nuclear (as Hezbollah's 120k rockets would very badly damage Israel if the Hezzies had weeks to keep firing them in huge waves of attacks.)
I have not heard anyone talk about the 8 or more missiles that houthi rebels fired on Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti about 2 weeks ago luckily the navy was already in the aden sea and they were able to shoot them down but why are you all ignoring this?

The countries that are actually located in the Red Sea care about those shipping lanes the least, because they can just use roads and rail to transport goods to each other. It's the countries like the UK and Japan that want to use the Red Sea to ship goods to each other.
