      Right!? Angel has proven that it's a totally viable source of income and yet they treat Anya like she's terrible for having the idea. I mean, obviously Anya's idea won't literally work, but investigator work would definitely be effective in a town like Sunnydale.

      The Scoobies seem to take pleasure in correcting, reprimanding & treating Anya like an outsider or like she’s useless. (Including Xander who it’s the worst coming from because you know he should have her back as her partner... but god forbid he defend or support her against his friends.) Even though without her suggesting the plan last year with Olaf’s hammer & the dragonsphere what were they gonna do? It just bugs me because she’s always trying & she is a useful member of the team!!

    The money issue in the Buffyverse irritates me so much. Totally agree that Willow and Tara should be chipping in if they're going to live there. I get that slayers don't usually live long enough to worry about stuff like this (and judging from Kendra's situation, most of them are expected to live with their Watchers, who presumably feed and shelter them). But if the Watchers get paid, there should be some sort of trust fund or something to take care of the slayer.

      Keeping the Slayers penniless and dependent is leverage for the Council to control them. As for Willow and Tara, we don't know that they aren't contributing just because it's not mentioned. Though the writers could've slipped in an 'even with Willow and Tara's rent...'.

    The thing about Giles scolding Willow is that it probably wasn't all about the whole channeling powerful magic that he was so pissed about, it was because he felt that Willow put herself in so much risk and that risk wasn't something he could take. Like it would've cost her her life and he couldn't bear to lose her just for doing the ritual. He was like a dad to all of them, and to him in was similar to someone like buying a car without getting insurance lol (sorry can't think of another comparison). Irresponsible. But what the worst part about that might be his fear that Buffy's resurrected body would've turned out to be really bad. I'm just thinking that he fears she's not the same Buffy (perhaps, not just physically but even mentally, spiritually, etc.) He figured that Buffy was better off where she was, she was at peace. Or perhaps he also felt that she was really finished and another Slayer would have to take her place even if Faith can't get out of jail yet. *He must've felt like what Willow did was disrespectful to Buffy, assuming she had the right to do that just because she can.*

    I kinda understand Xander not wanting to tell everyone about the engagement. Buffy just got back from what they assume was Hell. She's still getting used to being back and dropping another big revelation, which she'd have to act happy for might be difficult after a trauma. One thing I never understood about the money troubles is that The Watchers get paid by The Council. Shouldn't the Slayers get paid also?

    Watching this late at night, I was counting how many episodes were left before my favorite episode of the season, and I got the Nightmare on Elm Street song stuck in my head ... "One, two, Freddy's coming for you. Three, four, better lock your door. ..." And so on. Being tired can definitely make you a bit loopy, with very stream-of-consciousness thoughts in your head.

    On the point of charging people for saving their lives, Anya's idea was terrible, but it's adjacent to a good idea. The city government presumably knows they are living on a hell mouth, buffy is providing them a major service and could find some way of getting them to offer her a stipend for her work, Giles and the counsel could help set this up.

    This is my least favorite season and one of the many reasons i dislike it is because willow and terra should really be paying rent. It's a normal thing, if buffy willow and terra all had part time jobs then they would have no money problems, they could even work at the same place and then it would even be fun. On top of all this buffy's dad should be paying child support, and finally Giles' salary should really be split between him and buffy if he were still being paid by the counsel, but he probably isn't after leaving.

    I really like this episode- with the exception of the nerd plot stuff. I do have one little big bone to pick: I thought it was SUPER out of character for Willow to a) threaten Giles, and b) out of character for that not sending up a flair to Giles and him addressing it immediately. She fucking THREATENED him. 😧

    • @DreadedX
      @DreadedX 4 роки тому +2

      I don't think you understood that part then. It was out of character for Willow because the magics she has been channeling are starting to take a hold of her. This was the first negative spark we see from Willow because of it. Giles already knows this. Even though he was taken back when she went on the offensive to him, he understood why she said what she said at this point. Therefore he refrained from reacting to it here. He realises he must keep a close watch on her from this point.

    I never understood how Willow and Tara, who live in the Summers' house, weren't at least paying Buffy rent to help her out or had jobs of their own, school or no school.
    The fact that Anya suggests exactly what Angel does to earn money and is dismissed shows me that the Scoobies dismissed it because it was something she said. Anya also definitely had a right to be upset with Xander about their situation. He isn't giving Buffy time so much as using Buffy as an excuse for his own cold feet. It always seems to me that there are four Scooby originals and then everyone else as Scooby side characters. The scenes encompassing those things really show that idea well.
    As much as I agree with Giles about what he said to Willow, I was confused about him saying he expected her to respect the rules of nature. Has she ever really shown that she does before? Her magic usage has always been at the expense of rushing into it before she should and come with the consequences that she hasn't taken seriously.
    I always liked the reason why Buffy is talking more to Spike than anyone else. She is identifying her resurrection with Spike's life as a vampire, she is overall depressed, has a disconnect with her friends for bringing her back, a disconnect from Giles for leaving and is therefore trying to reconnect with him, and Buffy assumes Dawn is too young for Buffy's problems.

      @@zenithquasar9623 In that regard S3 bugged me most. And even Giles on some occasions wasn't any better.
