The camera truly is on of the inventions that changed our lives. Because of it, we get to look at pictures of loved ones we have lost. Thanks for another great story!!
Eastman suffered from excruciating pain from spinal arthritis. His suicide note read "To my friends, My work is done, Why wait? "
Someone once threatened to fire me from a job. I was ready to quit anyway. So when they said they were going to fire me, I said "To quote George Eastman, my work is done, why wait?" I walked out of the room. They tried to call me back, but I kept walking.
Yeah they really wanted to humiliate you before they fired you, you took all the fun out of it for them
thug life
Savage 😎
👍
You are my hero
I still remember when I got my first Kodak camera as a teenager,. Could not wait to get my film developed 😁
Fotomats
me too, got a kodak cameo with the flip up flash one year for christmas. waiting to get your pictures back was the best.
George made it easy for many people to have many memories in photos. ❤️
Loved those disposable cameras when I was a kid 😃😃
I.always found something so nostalgic about a kodak disposable camera.
"That's a Kodak Moments!", will treasure memories ty
If you’re ever in Rochester again, go to his home on East Avenue. It is a fantastic museum on the history of photography and a theater. The vaults in the basement contain most of the original copies of films made in Hollywood to this day.
I remember the Kodak Photomath Booths, where you drove up, drop off / pick up . They would develop your film ,you stay in your car.
FASCINATING AS ALWAYS Lamont!!!! Yeah, Eastman was tired of living, but it's NOT OUR CALL!!!! Hope the Lord took pity on him!!!!
Amen
Did Jesus not die for all our sins?
@@SEA0063 you believe whatever you want to believe is just you.
Hi Lamont- what a wonderful surprise to see you where I was born and raised! My father worked for Kodak for many years. My mother to this day lives off of Lake Ave, less than a mile away from where you were. Another interesting video! Thanks for sharing!
I'm from the area too I wonder why he didn't visit Mount Hope. Which is way more interesting than the George Eastman memorial?
New generations still buy actual cameras, as they appreciate the authenticity that phones don’t have.
Digital camera sales are way down and replacement/refreshment cycles have been extended. There will always be a market for higher end DSLR cameras with high resolution photos and video. But the point and shoot camera market has been in sharp decline since 2010.
@@Bonzi_Buddy truth. fortunately I have a daughter who is old school with her point and click camera.
@@LoriMac89 that is awesome!! There is something so “truthful” in that kind of picture taking!
Eastman had a very painful spinal disorder in the last 2 years of his life that led to his suicide.
I still have a working Kodak camera!!
I pretty much know how Mr.Eastman felt.I lost all my family to cancer, had no kids, never met my soulmate and im 62yrs old.All my mom and i have left is each other and she is pretty sick.I think i can say when she is gone,my life will be worthless.I.I don't want to be alone in this cold cruel world.Im not asking for pity.
Wow, 87 years ago today you planned that didn't you Lamont?! (On the plaque with his picture it says 9/15/1934) Always cool videos, thanks & love you Lamont!
Fascinating Grave, keep them coming
Mr Eastman not only achieved many successful inventions, he was also a very generous person. In London we have a dental hospital named after him due to his philanthropy. RIP
I had one of the original cameras from Eastman Kodak and lost it in our house fire that burned everything to the ground. The cameras that I had were all passed down through the generations and after two years I am still not over it. I also had a letter from Mr. Eastman to my great great grandpa which is gone now too. Very few materialistic items did I care about. My great great grandfather was a photographer for the PA Coroner's office and then he opened a portrait studio. Ugh shedding tears now.
Wow, you're an hour away from Buffalo, my city! Please come here Lamont
Hey, My Hometown. Awesome Video. My Dad worked for Kodak for years and retired from there.
Aaah Rochester NY ! Went to school there (RIT). It's turned into a sleepy college town these days (U of R, RIT, Monroe CC) after the Kodak and Xerox closure. The city had great history in Tech but has been going through rough times in the last 20 years or so. @Lamont, while you're there, try the "garbage plate" with cheese burgers at Nick Tahou Hots !!! Please.
I’ll continue to say this….These videos are so great! You do stories on people I never would have given thought to. So sad that he ended his own life. 😢
Welcome to my city of Rochester. Hopefully you had a chance to visit Mount Hope Cemetery. Fredrick Douglass and Susan B Anthony is buried there.
I loved the Kodak cameras and I never forget it because I took pictures and took them to the store to get them developed.
Still got my father's box brownie, takes pride of place in my keepsake cabinet. Great video as always Lamont xx
Loving the content Lamont my first Kodak I bought cost me $5 which was alot of money back then when my nan got the photos back she was even more angry at me as a few were of sand on a beach not the water just sand lol thanks you kodak and it's sad to hear how he died RIP keep them coming Lamont we are in lockdown great way to pass the day many thanks
Hello Lamont. Thanks for this story.
What a Kodak moment‼📷📸
It's crazy that you were in Rochester New York but didn't visit Mount Hope cemetery. The amount of famous people in there along with interesting people. Is incredible
My grandfather worked for Eastman Kodak in the 40's and 50's until he passed away in 1957
Morning from cali..take care out there lamont!!
Welcome to the Roc, Lamont. Set up a fan meet up! I see there are a few of us here hahaha
I am a retired wedding photographer and I find the history of photography pretty amazing!!!!!!!! Lamont - what happened to that video about the boy in Boardman, Ohio? I watched it, live right next door to Boardman and now it's gone? Not sure what happened? Pat
Thanks always seeing and hearing things we didn’t know
Thanks again Lamont for all that you do for us in bringing these stories to us, you the man.
Very interesting. The camera plays a huge part in our lives. Thank you Lamont.
George Eastman revolutionized photography by developing a camera that needed very little exposure time to burn the image onto the film.
Compared to the Tin Type photographs, it was less likely to cause blurring and could capture things in the process of moving. Where movements with the tin type photographs often resulted in a highly distorted and blurred image, Eastman’s camera would capture the moving object in that instant.
Thanks for sharing this awesome video on George Eastman. I love the wide range of people you choose to cover. You never fail to amaze me with your interesting facts. Take care and safe travels!
If you're ever in Buffalo, Forest Lawn Cemetery has several famous graves, beautiful mausoleums, and is just an overall amazing cemetery.
I remember my Mother's brownie camera..... she remembers it too. My Mother is 93.
Lamont you are awesome man keep on keeping on my brother 🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👍
Right on dude . I love graveyards I will be here. Great stuff.
WOW we have came a long way i remember Kodak cameras in the 60s
My uncle and cousin both retired from that very location. My sister still lives in Rochester.
That was another great video. Sorry to hear it was sad desperate ending. Had no idea. 😢 I remember my first Kodak instamatic I got for Christmas in the 70s and the Disc in the 80s. 🙂
I wish I knew you were coming to Rochester I would like to have met you interesting place Rochester Ny
My Uncle hustling for those hidden gem stories and people 👌🏿
Hi there, I wandered who started the Kodak camera, what a beautiful gravesite, very sad ending to his life, he will be happy now being with his mum, bless him, very well kept Cemetery, RIP George Eastman.and Thank you for your invention. All the best Lamont. Xxx
Thank you Lamont very interesting.
Hey, I remember the Brownie camera! I had one as a kid.
Hello LaMont! Find a copy of Malcom Forbes' book "They Went That A-Way" Great read with a story about Mr. Eastman.
Rochester!!! I have an Aunt who used to be a Principal over a huge Child Development Center there!
Also back then, people would take photos with their dead loved ones before burying them. They would put them on devices to make them stand or sit up and draw black dots on the eyes to make it like they were awake.
Just fyi history - they did have the analog version of Photoshop back then. They often "retouched" pictures to enhance skin and figure in the 1800s. There are books/guides instructing photographers how to do this.
Rochester NY is my native town. Kodak used to be a world empire, so much so that so many locals were employed by Kodak that the Great Depression barely affected Rochester.
Kodak has now fallen from their world prominence.
That was an awesome trip back in time. May he rest in peace. Thank you Lamont for another great video.
I live less than 4 miles from there. Love the vid!!
My fathers family had a box brownie and I got given that to use as a first camera in primary school. I remember getting a couple good B & W photos from it.
I really enjoyed this video Lamont, Thanks. 🥰❤
Good and interesting video, thanks Lamont. 👍
good one 👍🏻
I love history thanks for sharing
This was a photo finish for sure. Love your channel
George Eastman was my mother's uncle..🌺
Linda Eastman gone too The Beatles "Hello"😉👍
I have a lot of family that used to work for Eastman Kodak
I’ve read that he chose the name Kodak because he figured it would be easy for people all over the world to pronounce.
Really genius even in choosing a name as that name is truly easy to pronounce no matter where you are in the world. ICONiC! May God rest his soul in peace.
I like your vlogs. They come with background information and history. Thank you Lamont 🙏🇨🇦
It all goes back to money cannot buy you happiness, you have to do what you love,
Eastman chemicals is still a huge company and my friend works there as a chemist.
Wow this brings insight to a death of an elderly cousin. He kept telling his daughters he didnt really want to live anymore bc he was starting to need a wheelchair. They took care of him very well and he was mentally there, but his wife died years before. His daughters said they were going to the grocery store and would be back in a few. He didnt even wait for them to pull out the driveway grabbed a revolver they had for protection and done. He just didn't see a point anymore
Wow this channel is growing fast Lamont. I couldn’t imagine life without a camera especially now days.
My grandparents owned a brownie where you looked down into it, I remember playing with it 🤩👍👏

Lamont you sure do get around. Thanks for posting these videos.
I love your history lessons!! I learn something new every time you post something.
Fascinating to invent something like that
I drive a chemical tanker truck I haul from the Eastman Chemical company in Kingsport Tennessee. I didn’t realize Mr Eastman was buried in New York
I wonder what the stone read? Thanks Lamont for another good story!
