Sounds like they changed the rules. However, where my parents are buried, in the older section, they have statues but in the newer sections they have specific rules. It is a memorial park too. They are very strict in the newer section. It makes no sense. The headstones are flat. You can have a bench but an extra plate at the foot of the grave, also flat, they will not allow. Why? That soldier statue is very nice.
At the cemetery where my son is buried, they don't put signs out before they do cleanups! They do the same thing and put them in a pile in the back of the cemetery for the families to retrieve them. Sad but every cemetery has different rules and regulations. 😔
We take care of a cemetery the families are given a rule sheet . If they leave statues they are only allowed for the holidays. We leave the solar lights until they start to look bad.
What is going on Lamont and everyone??,, I must say this is very disturbing, but I agree with u Lamont at least they didn't throw items away but it still makes me sad 😔 here in Ohio at Lake View Cemetery they don't allow decoration but at Riverside Cemetery where my friend is at, they do!! Stay safe everyone 🙏💞
This happened a few years ago at our local cemetery. It was absolutely without warning and it broke my heart. Beautiful statues, edging, solar lights, notes, trophies that were from buddies that played together. Baby toys, match box cars on and on! Right they did exactly the same thing😢
That happened to me too! The angel statues I placed on my parent's graves were suddenly gone! I believe that all of the cemeteries being bought by DIGNITY are having all of the cemetery decor removed.
I would be curious to see if the cemetery has a list of rules concerning what can be placed at graves. Typically memorial cemeteries won't allow anything like statues to be installed permanently. I mean I kind of understand why the things were moved.. It makes it easier to maintain the grass. Where my Mom is buried we have one weekend each year that we can decorate and leave it for 2 weeks but are also allowed to decorate for Christmas. After that everything but one flower arrangement has to be removed. The reason for this is because of the time it takes to mow and weed around headstones but also flowers and ornaments get blown around, weather worn or stolen.
My dad worked at a grave yard in 80s during recession. He knew he needed a different job when families didn't pay bill, and he had to remove the head stone, take it behind the garage, and lay it name down on the dirt till they paid. He said it was the most difficult thing he ever had to do. But he was making 4.50 a hour, had a house wife and a baby. Finally he made it into the coal industry and never looked back.
To the people who are saying this is disgraceful and wrong, at least they placed the items where they can be found and not just thrown in a dumpster. Reason for doing this is most likely for spring cleanup. I am a former groundskeeper and really hated doing this because it pissed off so many people. Even though we had signs stating the clean up periods and regulations. This way when they start doing the preliminary landscaping ( grass cutting cutting, weed eating) there's nothing in the way to interfere with it. The number of people that would complain about their stuff being removed was unreal. Flowers were thrown out in a dumpster, decorations were placed nearby until the end of the cleanup period and then thrown out if they weren't claimed.
At the military cemetery my Brother is buried at, they remove everything off all the graves once a week. So you can’t leave much of anything there for very long. 😕
That is so sad to see. Those little and big statues cost a lot of money. I guess if the rule is in place for no decorations and people ignore that, well then the cemetery can only remove them. I hate cemeteries that only allow flat tombstones. I know it is to make it easier to mow but just so sad to see.
Our cemetery has strict rules like that, but it belongs to the city, not a corporation. They just can't mow around all that stuff. The old section says you can't have anything outside of the cement pad of the marker. They clear all flowers, etc. everything 4x a year, and post way before they do it. The new section is all flat stones and they do allow solar lights. It is sooooo pretty to drive by and see the ocean of lights at night.
I know when I put a cross on my parents’ graves every year at Christmas they tell me that items are eventually removed after the holiday and they place them in an area by the office so you can pick it up if you want it back. (We were aware of that at the time of purchase). I’ve never done that, I make a new one every year since I live 4 hrs away. I imagine that’s what this is about. My parents’ cemetery is a cemetery where there are ground level markers for easy grass cutting so they definitely remove these items in the spring.
My dad was a caretaker in our state. He said that after a while they have to take them down to do routine maintenance and when you buy a plot etc, they tell you they will take them if you don’t, because they have to mow,
There is also another possibility. This is Louisiana and many parts of the state are below sea level, so it is probably not that unusual that cemeteries are flooded all the time here. Perhaps many monuments and grave toppings got swept away, and ended up all over the cemetery! The caretakers probably can't sort these things out (after a flood), and so they might just gather everything that seems out of place, and place them here and hope those who put the items on the grave, claim/pick them up from here and put back on the graves, or take them back with them. I'm not saying that is the case here, but it is a possibility other than the caretakers enforcing rules. Their policy may be that they don't leave items strewn all over the cemetery after a flood. It could also be volunteers who did this and didn't know where it all goes. Good for them! Let's don't automatically condemn this place for what we see...yet. I guess I'm a glass half filled guy, these may be the good guys after all.
🤔Your explanation regarding a flood sweeping over the graves, and the ornaments being left behind, actually makes sense. The grounds keeper probably put them there hoping the families would recognize them.
If you don’t want it moved or taken, then just leave flowers. Otherwise, don’t complain. They don’t have time to hunt down everyone who left a trinket. That stuff piles up and gets in the way of maintenance.
Wow, that’s a message to people to not leave things on graves. Sad. Maybe they could consider a period of time, 5 years or so, once that has elapsed you can’t leave gifts, or even an age limit for the deceased. If something’s been left for a child, and it’s gone when the parents come next time, they’re going to be broken hearted
I wonder if, since this is a cemetery of flat memorial markers, they got tired of mowing around all of the decorations so they just took them off. It’s incredibly sad.
Someone needs to come in there with an excavator and lift that stuff up and into a dumpster, then haul it all away. There’s nothing else to do with it, and trying to know what went where now… impossible. They just need to throw it all out, and make sure proper signs are up to let people know that mementos are thrown away after x period of time. Anything that was left for the dead, I personally wouldn’t want it. I don’t know about other people wanting grave mementos, but I guess it’s always possible (usually people only take from celebrity or infamous people’s graves). I think the best place for all that stuff is a dumpster.
We had a massive problem recently here in Bendigo Victoria Australia and people were told that the only things allowed at the grave sites were flowers and a few other things. No solar lights, decorations, knick knack etc. The towns people made a big stink about it. Was on the TV and everything.
My Dad's cemetery is like this. No artificial flowers from March to Nov. They undecorate the graves and put everything in a big pile for families to pick up. If it's not picked up by a certain date everything is thrown in the trash. One time I was visiting my Dad and near his grave was a big red & white sign: DO NOT WALK ON THE GRASS. I was pissed. No walking at a CEMETERY? I grabbed a Post It from my car and stuck my own sign on it: These are OUR loved ones and we will walk wherever we please. I visited again a few weeks later and saw someone had the common sense to remove their offensive sign.
They are doing the same thing in Bixby Oklahoma. No decor on graves or benches, plus can only be so tall. We have a few bigger markers but one Lifesize image of a teenage boy that lost to cancer that will be removed soon even though it's been there for years. New rules at the cemetery 😢
This is a tribute and an honor ! I agree with you , reserve & preserve ! Why just discard to a landfill or whatever useless equivalent. Good to see you out - n - about ! Good Health to you ! Regards -
I am from Brooklyn, N.Y., Lamont. In N.Y.C. they do not throw most of the fresh flowers away. After a funeral and the mourners leave the graveside, the fresh flowers are sold cheap to the guys you see on the street corners and when you are stuck at a red light. They hawk " Fresh flowers $ 5.00 a bunch". The men in the cars see an easy way to bring flowers home to the Mrs. If only they knew where the flowers came from !?!
This is a shame. The angels & the soldier, Some of the pieces are meant to last a very long time.I would turn " KAREN " ON them. it ain't right. I'm certainly not a KAREN but this gets on my last nerve. Thanks Lamont~~~Sherry
I had a friend, who's uncle Bill would take things like this and decorate everyone else's yards. He knew where Sunset Cemetery disposed of things like this. As a matter of fact so do I.
Hello Lamont I'm watching you from Tucson Arizona, when I see stuff like that it saddens me cause it all seems forgotten. Hopefully people in that area will come get their stuff or just take it to the dumpster, IDK 😐 God bless you and stay safe out there
This is really sad, people placed those things on the graves of a loved one. Some of those statues are not cheap. I would really like to know the reason why those things were removed.
Cemetery rules usually state that all decor either needs to be on the headstone slab or removed each year by a certain date after Memorial Day. This is so mowing around the graves can be done adequately. Before they do a big clean up they often post in the papers or with signs in the cemetery that the items will be removed. At least they left the items for people to retrieve.
I wouldn’t take anything that came from someone’s resting place. I’ve heard of stories about bad things happening to people who have done just that. But this is super sad. I see both sides though. Cluttering up a cemetery can cause problems with keeping it neat and clean and safe for the upkeep too.
I know at cemeteries here in my town, you very often see flowers and all other items that have been blown around the cemeteries by high winds. There is no way for them to tell where all those items originated from, so they toss them out during lawn care.

Where some of my family members are buried in Austin, there is a sign posted that no decorations are allowed unless it's a holiday or birthday and must be removed within 24hrs if failed to comply staff will remove and discard any and all decorations. Some people are stubborn about it.
They should have contacted the families and have them come get the stuff.

Where some of my family members are buried in Austin, there is a sign posted that no decorations are allowed unless it's a holiday or birthday and must be removed within 24hrs if failed to comply staff will remove and discard any and all decorations. Some people are stubborn about it.
I guess I wouldn't want my loved one buried there if they removed my stuff 😢
It’s probably a rule at the cemetery. We don’t allow kerbs or fences at my local cemetery because of cutting the grass
I never understood the reason for solar lights in a cemetery. So the night time vandals can find their way around the cemetery?
