I vote for showing the repairs, especially the diagnosis of what is bent or broke. It will be helpful to see how many things really need to be replaced. But please don’t let it slow down the motor build.
Ive been lookimg for that tire machine build vid for awhile, but theres always value in showing all that you can, your knowledge is greatly appreciated.
SportMod, I NEED that tire machine done myself. And time is running out. But we are videoing the tear down in the morning and I hope to be on the tire grinder before end of week.
Definitely show the repairs! Us weekend warriors fight this a lot. Great videos!! I do put a tie wrap to hold my spring rubber in the spring. If it flies out, the next turn you will have a quick driving lesson!!!
i got no problems with any of your videos, they are all gold. as tony the tiger would say "they're great". keep doing what you're doing however you want to. keep putting them out and i'll keep hitting the like.
You are too kind Kechum. But yeah, I might not put them out as fast as I want to but I try to make every single one of them useful in some way and have no plans to stop (just need to figure out how to speed up!)
@@DIRTRACELIFE I'm moving up from Modified-4 into a v8 metric car this year. Your videos are simply indispensable for learning the differences in setups and chassis design. Thanks for being so open and willing to help other racers.
Kind words Brian that are much appreciated. Last night I finished up my first video on using a load stick and those types where we talk about the technical and how to part are by far my "Jam" 😉 It releases to the public on Sunday so look for it!
How long is it going to take Jay to get that shock rebuilt/replaced? Sucks that all the money this crash cost You will update have got You closer to that Motor this cars ready for. I have utmost confidence You’ll get it all together and find victory lane.
Jay at BSB is the guy!!! Sent my stuff into him last week and will have mine back Wednesday of this week. He just rebuilt 6 of my shocks. Definitely one of the best shock builders out there. Nothing but the highest remarks for his entire staff (Jay).
I vote for showing analyzing all the damage and showing the repairs also. One question I have, is I noticed you've got some of those fan style garage lights. Do you ever try and listen to the radio with those on and find that they interfere and make the radio extremely staticky? I've noticed that all my LED lights put out a frequency that interferes with an FM radio. But those are the worst.
Jason, I am always just listening to pandora or tune in radio on my cell phone BUT!!!!!!! I have noticed a buzzing noise that is in my recorded sound if I ever plug one of my go pros into a wall socket in the shop while recording. Now I am thinking I might have just found the cause. :)
Just ran again Saturday Rusty on the latest MULTIPLE changes and had good success. We finished 5th but it was obvious to me we are finally ON the setup because of how neutral and consistent the car drove. Going to get that video out in a few days. And yep I recorded that new shock again on the track this time as well.
Thats what we are doing Junior. You're right, its important to cover all of it because what may seem simple to me now was not at one time. First repair video went out this morning.
Glad I found your channel! Love the content and how helpful you are with explaining your reasoning. I am curious as to your reasoning for switching from a leaf spring to a coil spring.
John, to be clear I do love my leafs and plan to put my daughter in the leafer seat next year but . . I have learned each has its own unique advantage. In the rough or tacky, a leafer's robust rear suspension capable of being slammed through ruts and bounced off berms is a real advantage however on a super smooth locked down dry slick track I believe you can make a coil car do things that a leaf can not do. Coils are terrible in the rough but in the smooth and slick they shine. I am working my way up to becoming a winner in the big high lap , high car count shows here in the south east US and those surface conditions are typically always black ice. So I built a car just for that and hope to prove it can be done by the backyard budget racer.
Hey Jason don’t forget to check and make sure that your spindle is straight. You can fix everything correctly but if that spindle is off it will make everything else off as well.
Think it would be good for these new guys to see the maintenance, nut and bolting part of it if you've got time. And perhaps a little more into what the track is you are going to (size, banking, dirt...). Once you get ur car in the ballpark that is. What you change for that track and why. And perhaps a partnership video(s) in off season (sponsor seeking). Good stuff.
The best investment i made in racing is real time shock sensors ots 4 sensors they are transmitting real time live data to laptap during hot laps and qualifying telling you your rebound compression and ect on graphs and able to replay the whole practice session and watch the shocks at every part of yhe track and it picked me up alot from a 5-6th place average car that wins few times a year to a car that bow has a bounty and won 11 races in a row it helped me find the small issues that was hidden with band aid setup stuff cause i didn't have any way of knowing until i got the shock sensors and can only run the during practice and qualifying but on asphalt at least the track doesnt change as much as dirt and i run pro trucks and modifieds. Abd also for huge races lile the snowball derby which i race at five flags all year round we will change the gear oil to some automatic trans fluid and run that just gor the thrre qualifying laps then change it before the race even though we get impounded anything we can do to the car with out jacking it up or removing hood we can do to them before race and so happens in both pro truck and mod i can change gear oil fast. And sterno coated inside of airfilter before qualifying and dont run the car at all push ot until you have to go out on the trackk it will pick you up a good tenth or more in horsepower wise and when its nice and cold put it makes a huge difference and makes way more power
Honestly this level of telemetry while obviously useful is far beyond what someone like me as a single person racing home-built equipment could ever be engaged in. 100% have no doubt in what you are saying but couldn't make this investment. Even if I could afford the technology, I could not put it to use. This level of racing is where you have to have a crew familiar with the tech and able to handle it. Good stuff but way beyond what I can reasonable add to my program. The sterno trick. . . that's pretty nifty ;)
So I was in the planning stages of adding a fan shroud, from one of your videos and last night our 602 modified blew up. It is missing a push rod and has a hole in the oil pan. About a gallon of water drained out of oil pan. Man I thought these motors were limited as to avoid this type of thing. Ever hear of this?
GM actually paused production last year for a while because of serious quality issues so I would say yes we are all hearing horror stories like this. Its gotten to the point where you buy a brand new 602 and then take it directly to a certified builder just to disassemble it and look for assembly and tolerance issues that would cause it to fail. Just sucks for our sport as a whole because no matter which direction you go, costs are going up up up.
Well I hadn't thought about that. For several years I have just been buying the high temp red in a chalk tubes and using it for everything. I just go with red since I use it for headers also.
I like the steel reinforced, silicon impregnated gasket. No silicone to clean up (unless you had some pitting/scores in the surface). I take more time cleaning than swapping...
Shoot I know the feeling and sure hate that for you Mr. James. I need to get a new engine in this one myself before I finish off this back up motor in it now.
My shop has 9 foot ceilings. I think I could make it work but I would ne be able to lift the car but about 4 to 5 feet. But ya know even those Mayflower brand ones aren't cheap Dave.

I see value in filming the tear down and evaluation of damages. The assessment process is of great value, especially for newer drivers.
Well you were there with me so you already know how bad it was. I have the new steering sector and the ball joints on the way.

Nothing wrong with the formats and info you are giving us on the videos. Just wishing you would get better luck on the track.

Thank you sir.
Always great content jason. 👌. Keep doing what you're doing.
Thanks Eddie

I'm thinking our core team here is all in for repair videos Robert so I think we are heading that way with it.
Yea same here let’s see the repair on it keep up the great job on the video
Thanks Robin, we're tryin :)
I’m a IMCA hobby stock racer so I’m just learning how you diagnose stuff and what does what for setup. So you do you 🤘
Thanks for watching Shawn and hope you find some useful stuff in my videos. Good luck with the Hobby Stock!
I say film every thing bc there's someone that needs to see everything u have to do

I always have used the black rtv. It doesn't show up on a black shirt and pants

If the red gets in the port it will not burn off and change the flow
@@jamesswanson1139 for engine stuff I like the permatex ultra grey

Put zip ties on both ends of the spring rubber to keep it in the middle of the spring .
Agreed..... That sucker is wedging into the bottom too tight.
