If you're trained in the art of public speaking, and you aren't tone deaf, it's really rather simple to pull something like this off especially when your fame can get someone else's bankroll to provide a recreated iconic set like this or get you into the original venue.

@@roberthitchcock7214 why do you think they used Bowie's & Bing's backing track? One listen and you can tell it was John C Reilly and Will Ferrell singing. Two minutes of research would have confirmed it. Jack Black and Jason Segel also did an animated version, and yes, they sang also.

I had a dream a few nights that I was in a band with John C. Reilly and an unknown Beatle. Our band name was Hat Chase Bottom. We even had a band logo. The Beatle was always behind a curtain so I never found out which one. Only John - I'm sorry, his stage name was Chase Bottom and mine was Hat Thomas, thus the band name - knew which Beatle it was and he wasn't telling. Not even sure which instrument he played, but I played guitar and John played guitar and piano. I woke up laughing my ass off. Hands down the most hilarious dream I've ever had.

It's a great parody. They took the awkwardness of the original and moved it up...just a little, until the end of course. But some of the small details in the original, like Bing saying "Bouwie" they made more noticeable. It was just a strange network decision - Crosby hadn't heard of Bowie at the time, and Bowie said 'Little Drummer Boy' was a song he hated.
