Good video, I hope Gerber can step it up a little more, looks like a lot of details were overlooked. In this day, especially for $100, Gerber has to improve fit and finish to compete with all the manufacturers foreign and domestic.
Gerber also just released a flatiron in d2 and micarta, and are releasing the fastball in 20cv. I have one and it’s almost perfect. Their China stuff has come a long way as well. Qc is just a factor, but I’ve had 4 flatirons and only one had issues. I know some of the people from Gerber and have personally been to their American factory, and they have so much more in the works that will put them back on the map for even the most nitpicky knife snobs in the community. They just dropped images on blade hq for their first OTF. American made, s30v, 4 inch blade and only just under 300. Within a few years they have made leaps that some companies like Crkt took a decade to do. Very fair review.
I bought a buck marksman. And it had horrible milling marks on the aluminum scales. I ended up returning it. Because the wait time to get it replaced from buck was months. I really liked that knife too. But over $100 knife. Should be pretty much perfect.
This is a good direction for Gerber but I still would compare this to other USA made knives, say from Kershaw? I’ll spend my $100 elsewhere. It is probably a smaller knife than I would carry anyway. Thanks again for another well done review!
Blade steel is a step up indeed, although for the price there are many options that will have me impulse buying no questions asked. Can anyone say WE Banter?(yes I had to get the murda'd out one😂) 🤜💯🤛 . Like many others, Gerber just don't and never has givin me that must buy, impulsive feeling yet. Not even when bear grills was in the picture(uh oh, showing my age😂 haha), AWSOME review ,excellent presentation. Your content is top notch. Keep on keepn on brotha 🤜🤛🍻
Just bought one today and after a few openings the liner lock is stuck and I can't close the blade. taking it back to get a refund. I won't be touching a gerber again.
I feel like this knife would've put Gerber back on the map 4 years ago. But they've just got their head above water, and this is their flagship. The community gave them a solid "good try, keep going" participation trophy for the fastball. But Gerber are still pumping out shite in 5cr and 7cr as an enormous part of their lineup. Like many people, the paraframe was my first EDC, but I've not looked at Gerber since, and I don't think I will. The Fastball was Gerber's attempt to break through again and everything about it is derivative, and kinda behind the times.
Expect for the several d2 knives they have just released, a hunting knife in 440c, some chefs knives in 9cr, and are now offering fastballs In 20cv. Within just 3 years they have made more leaps then Spyderco or Benchmade have made in a decade.
@@hunterglaspell5580 That's all good to see. I hope they continue improving. They'll have a long way to go to repair their reputation. I think that a lot of people feel that after being bought by Fiskars they really let their standards drop. For a long time they seemed to market their products (multitools excluded) to people that knew nothing about knives and once they learnt something they'd never buy a second one, like me. I'm glad to see that they've learnt from that lesson and I hope things get better.
tidge879 they had a management reboot back in 2014 hence knives like the strongarm, multitools like the centerdrive, knives like the fastball and flatiron, their mindset is fixed and having personally been to their factory their everything is upgraded and ready to go for better pieces to come
Im strongly considering a custom-shop Fastball, need someone to convince me into (or away from) it!! Wharncliffe or Cleaver? S30V/ 20CV? Aluminum/G10?... PLEASE HELP ME!!!! LOL. It will be the nicest folder I own, and most expensive so far for me. (Also open to other suggestions/advice)
I'd much rather have the heavy detent than the terrible or lack there of detent of a Buck Sprint... I simply could not stand the Buck Sprint with regard to the detent. I think the fastball from what I have seen in videos far better than the Buck Sprint
This Gerber fast ball knife sucks! I bought one because of all positive reviews here on YT. Straight from the box, in less than one hour, the pocket clip was hanging on only one loose screw. Where is your lifetime warranty when you loose your knife because of that? You can't proof it. The grinding from the edge was also terrible. I send it back to the hardware store to swap it for a new one. I told them to send me some close up pics. from the edge first. Same terrible grinding. I asked for refund. I send a mail to Gerber USA about the issue and got reply from Fiskars Sweden??? Fiskars Sweden told me that the hardware store where i bought the Gerber Fastball knife was not one of their customers. That's it! Great service isn't it? It cost me a lot of time with all the mail contact and money for diesel to drive two times to the post office totally 64 km. This was a month ago and i,m still pissed off!
I love the idea of this knife, but the quality issues have me hesitating. Might be because it's a legacy/mainstream company? It's made in Portland, so...not made in China by commies, but in USA by aspiring/wannabe commies (Marxists). Still shopping around for now.

I found it. Great review man. I ordered a custom one from gerber and I love it and if anybody asks me it beats the bugout.

I’ve been wanting the Fastball for a while now. I am really liking the new 2020 cleaver Fastball.
This is one I've been eyeing up for a while
Not too bad at all! I'm not a big fan of Gerber but I do like some of their stuff and this is one I like. 🤙🏼
I have a lot of knives but this Gerber is one of my favs to carry daily
It looks like a Kershaw knife. Great if it were a Kershaw, but the comment posted about it being derivative is pretty spot on.
I bought a buck marksman. And it had horrible milling marks on the aluminum scales. I ended up returning it. Because the wait time to get it replaced from buck was months. I really liked that knife too. But over $100 knife. Should be pretty much perfect.
Best medium pocket knife out imo 👌

Go on their website and you can customize it, color, blade handle material, blade metal, you can also put writing and pictures on the blade aswell

I don’t know if all of the revo knives have it but I bought a revo warden and it had those kind of marks on the liners and it was horrible

Do it you want regret it
Very nice. Good review, thanks for sharing.

Time for a new caliper!
I can get another Kershaw Link in 20CV for $80. I do like this overall direction for Gerber, but this isn’t a $100 knife.
Wish they made a 'maxi' size that is a bit bigger and AUTO
LABELS 😀ok you can have a happy meal lol
Hahahaha
You sound like Tony Stark. Just a lil bit.
Here comes the fastball... swing n a miss, strike one! Close but no cigar. Too many ifs, ands, and buts for $100.
Do you hate the Griptilian? LOL
104$ for the black one 😂
