I watched your Bear video a few days ago. I grew up hiking the mountains of Colorado. It looks like you have lived an awesome lifestyle! Can you, please, insert more stories like that?!? You could probably write a best seller.
Mahalo for that feedback...I got more stories coming my friend. Aloha! 🤙
"Bitten by the bug," is so true! It becomes a challenge, or even an obsession to see how low you can get the utility bill... 🍍
Got bit 30 years ago, and never got over it! Aloha! 🤙
@@ProjectsinParadise808 Amen!
I dealt with the defrost cycle of my GE electricity hog refrigerator by connecting the defroster to kick on during the day when my solar panels are over overproducing electricity so that my battery is not run down. And yes, our world is not all bad news, we are making great gains in technology to solve and reverse our energy problems. About the only for sure thing is that government is bound to find a way of taxing us for generating solar electricity.
That's a great way you changed the defrost to work only when excess sunshine hitting the array! Thought of you often, and hoping the rebuild of everything since the storm has you back to normal? Fair winds this season hopefully! Aloha! 🤙
looking great. I got a old solat panel . still works about 20 years old. has the big round cells .is only around 40-45 watts and today a 100 watt one is smaller and puts out more in low light /cloudy days. LED lights are shocking bright today then just a few years back. I still have a few of my old old 12V lights left. looks like the old 60W 120V lamps but 12V . still got hot. todays leds are cool to the touch. I got some 24 and 12V ones. my biggest load is the cloths washer but we don't run that much and it's inverter drive. less than 1/2 the power my old kenmore takes. looking into new powerqueen 100ah mini battery. they got smaller for same power.been some break threw in LiFePO4 type. smaller size more cycle life. smaller 100 watt solar panels on the way. breakthrew in them as well. The push for the batter battery for the electric car is paying off. there is more electric cars on the road then ever before . and we started electric . been smokey hear in Boston NY. wildfires in Canada coming our way. outdoor sports canceled ETC. solar down 50% at times. then the wind change and solar back up. been a crazy past 2 years hear. we never had this much smoke hear ever.
Was wondering about you yesterday, and if you were choking on all that smoke from Canada?! Hoping it's not too bad where you are. Love hearing about all the off grid components you have in operation. Mahalo for sharing with us all! Fair winds brother! Aloha! 🤙
Livin' the dream! More power to ya. Pun intended!
😉🤙
Great video ! Newbie to solar living in the Cayman Islands. What are the brands for Fridge and Freezer .thanks
Beautiful

You got that right! 🤙
Thanks for the feedback

Good Evenin ! TAKE CARE..
Good morning! 🤙
Enjoy your video's, I like the keep it simple approach. Question on the LG refrigerator, what is the model number, maybe I missed this in the video? Does it have an Ice maker. I have just completed a DIY 2500 watt 24volt (8x105 amp battery) system for emergencies with 400 watts of solar. My old frig uses about 600 watts, its 37 years old and still going strong, even the ice maker still works. However, this old frig will not be sustainable with a long power outage. Thanks in advance
Mahalo! LG model escapes me at the moment but no, no ice maker Only draws 50-70 watts when running, except in defrost mode, then draws 200w for 30 mins or so. Aloha! 🤙
Hi,So I have a solar system in my home and a freezer that doesn't work with it so I wanted to know what type of system I would need to get it working
I will be running a freezer soon of a small 24v solar system, with mains charger top up automatically
Nice! 🤙
what make/model fridge?
I think I need to buy a new frig and freezer. each of mines draws about 160 watts each. The while house is LED which has helped. My biggest “solar pain” is the clothes washer. REALLY old (25 years)….900 watts. I just can’t replace something that is not broke yet.
I hear ya! But when it does break the newer stuff will help even more. Every step you take helps! Aloha! 🤙
Unlikely the motor draws that much power, probably heating it's own water, just one cold water supply hose. You can cancel this by setting cold cycle and feeding the water from a cheap water thermostatic valve, from solar hot water, then the wash is warm.
Do you live on the big island? I would absolutely love to retire there. Oahu too but that is crazy expensive.
Yes, big island here. Indeed Oahu crazy expensive! Aloha! 🤙
Led Tv`s nowdays draw less power than strongest incandescent light bulbs from old days like if anyone remembers 100W bulbs lol but the only difference now is the price of electricity gone up 10x, perhaps utility companies are aware that led light bulbs are only 5W now so they wanna make profit by treating production of electricity something out of science fiction movie but thanks to technology we can ditch utility companies and be our own Teslas and Edisons.
That's right! Aloha!🤙
Aloha
By 2024, 2.5 percent of all U.S. homes will have a solar installation.
I think that the primary reasons for solar power systems cost is that the grid power cost and ezpz nature of just flipping a switch is attractive to the masses. That said, as the grid implements more grid scale solar the off grid systems will remain cost prohibited.
Quite frankly, I believe this a classic example of, " The Machines", taking control of their lives. It all reminds of the German Residential Solar Power debacle - spectacle, where the government turns against the will of the people who understand the true cost of burning fossil fuel at unprecedented levels. And I think the end result will provide grid scale solar electric at costs priced to provide welfare to government who lives on these industries. The best way to crunch this is with one swift mass movement - like 2.5 million households this year making the switch before they do it for you - for greater personal wealth - your sweat - your skin!
One panel at a time .Small steps , but steps in the right direction. I hope it's making a difference. I notice more panels going up on this side of the island everyday. Reducing the dependance of diesel being shipped over to turn on a light. To turn on a light. Aloha! 🤙
Are you being affected by the eruption of Kilauea?
Although I am only 15 miles as the crow flies from the eruption, so far so good here. Trade winds blowing the fumes away from me. West side of island catching it at the moment. Aloha! 🤙
