I have had a fully loaded X5 M40d since new in 2014, it’s a fantastic car. Had the engine remapped to 400BHP and 570lb/ft and gearbox software remapped to mimic the Alpina, it is as quick as you would ever want an SUV to be. About to have it touched up and paint corrected as new. Should be good for another 5 years 👌
I bought a 67 plate bmw x5 40d with 47k miles from a bmw dealer. It is a 1 owner car , 2 keys , and comes with HUD , HK sound, Adaptive lights , 369m wheels, heated steering wheel. It's in white with grey alloys. So far after 10k miles I have had the rear input shaft seal replaced, oxygen sensor, air suspension compressor and shocks replaced all under warranty 😊. So far so good and it is a lovely machine and has been reliable, non of the issues caused me any grief I just booked it in to bmw and got it all replaced under warranty. Most of your gripes with the car can be coded out. Turm comfot entry off and change the lock options in the iDrive and code the boot opening/closing with one click.
I just bought a 2014 BMW x5 xDrive in Imperial Blue Metallic about a month ago, and I am completely satisfied with it. Your annoyances are my annoyances, but they don't bother me as much because like you said it's such a beautiful SUV with an equally beauiful ride. Thank you. You crack me up as well!

You have to hold the remote button to close the tailgate for safety I would guess. Otherwise you could accidentally press the close button and crush something.
I also love my X5. I have a 2015 xDrive35i. Its got decent power, space, it's comfortable. I'm still feeling out how to handle some of the quirks, and have coded in some features I wanted (like mirrors folding in on lock). My #1 complaint is the steering. Sport is the only setting that puts the steering at an acceptable level. Its equal to my comfort setting on my Charger. Even though it is aligned correctly it doesn't track as well as it should, and the steering is so light and numb that it takes away from the driving experience. Still looking for options to improve that. Beyond that, it's really competing with my Charger for daily driver status.
I personally love the X5 as a car from about 2010 and upwards. Im younger and insurance is a bitch so I drive crap boxes but my brother has had two 2010s, then moved on to a 2015 Range Rover Sport 4.4 SDV8. And he loved it at first, but he’s had nothing but trouble with electrical issues on the Range Rover so is moving back to an X5. The key is supposed to stay in your pocket. Whatever door you are standing at when you touch the button or put your hand in the door handle that door will unlock. Also there should be a button on your trunk latch that closes it automatically without holding anything. And as far as your steering wheel you can program via the Idrive not to move
The three clicks for your turn signal* the lever has two detents in it you should feel them when you push lightly on the lever it will blink the signal three times, push the lever down past that first detent and it will stay on, you can turn this feature off aswell via the IDrive
The press and hold to make the boot close is so you can stop it half way through if you don’t want it to close all the way 👍🏻 Great review , thanks for the honesty!

Does yours ever reset itself? Mine does it all the time and it’s starting to do my head in. The wheel, mirrors and heads up display just resets out of nowhere !
Settings of the steering wheel and head up display depends on which key are you using to start the car. If you are keeping both keys inside the car or changing keys every now and then the system will be either confused or change frequently by changing the keys

Have you been able to find a solution for the doors yet? I believe all models offer programmability for unlocking either just the driver's door or "All doors" - just need to select All doors so that it opens them all when you unlock.
I am probably not the first person to tell you, but you can adjust the door locks to open all at the same time. BMW also ask you at the same time if you want the boot to unlock.
The only annoying things about the X5 really are that it doesn't have a big V8 Diesel for towing, like the Touareg, Q7 or Cayenne and it only has rear air suspension as an extra, not on both axles. It also is way too small I think, when I sit in front, nobody has space in the second row.
to be honest we have the x5 m 50d in with full specs and we dont have these problems. And to your info it is normal that the steering wheel is going back in its position.. it should give you more space to exit the car.
I know it’s meant to but it always resets, still does it now, doesn’t save position or the heads up display, my e92 m3 le500 has none of these problems
Looking to upgrade to an X5 this year, I had an X5 (e53 version) msport and it was a beast, absolutely love my 520d msport (f10) but I'm keen to purchase this X5 version you have. Just on the keys.... there should be a key holder between the two cup holders its like a rectangle shape and looks out of place. I only copped on when I collected my f10 from the bmmer garage. Worth looking as I agree, it's a pain in the arse having bulky keys in you pocket.
had an X1 and thinking of an X5, the turn signal thing is programmable, 1-2 or 3 blips on the detent. the steering and HUD not going to driver settings maybe the keyfob being different driver setting than whats set on the features. the door locking is a little annoying, i am used to fords that central locking does everything, but again you can go in and change the door lock settings to open everything
the keyless start shit is absolute shite my mum got it on her Hyundai and the keys end up taking up the cupholder what a stupid idea and the locking thing is another one on hers u nailed the keyless shit what's wrong with a normal key
that locking system is designed to protect women in car parks. Its actually a great feature. To open all the doors, all you need to do is press the unlock key twice, and inside the car there is a button to unlock all the doors
You absolutely nailed the keyless start thing Adam - who would want to keep their keys in their pocket whilst driving and have them dig into your leg/waist!? Might as well stick it in the barrel, you can't misplace it as easily then either.
Great video man, honest video which is good! Locking system.. get Carly and you can change that looking system to not lock once you drive away, might be able to change how the boot works too!
all the annoying things you can sort them by coding + you can activate some tweaks like mirrors to fold when lock the car. no delay on opening and closing the boot, unlock all doors, not just driver`s door, etc. Search bimmercode application on iOS or Android, is a paid application for 25 quid, and another 25quid a bluetooth adapter for OBD reader. All the adapters that are compatible are shown in the application, which is free to download. you have also a demo of what you can do on your car. If need any help, hit me up :D 08:10 You can install latest maps, 2021 full europe. you just need an FSC code for your map version, example, europe next/route/premium. 10 quid for the code, just put the map on a usb, plug the usb, type in the code you buy from ebay and wait 30-45 minutes to update the maps. you can also drive the car and stop it and it will resume next time you starting. 08:30 - headup display 09.07 - bimmercode = disable easy entry/exit
The door locks are configurable. There's a padded compartment in the dashboard for your keys, if you want to use it for that. Your satvav will update automatically if you pay for the data connection. The wheel and heads-up display settings are associated with the particular key you're using. Read your manual, dude.
🇨🇦 if you ever have a issues with paint find a repair facility that uses Standox refinishing materials and you will find a technician that can match your paint 🇨🇦
Is it still comfortable with that low tyre profile , my dad got an SUV with higher profile and you can basically drive trough potholes and uneven surfaces etc and you can barely feel or hear anything . Got a 5 series and I'm looking for something more comfortable and quiet, I'm fed up driving along and keep hearing noise from any single little pothole in the road
Fact that you need to keep pressing remote key for closing back door -> also annoys me. Another thing that is irritating -> the front parking sensors warning -> they start beeping only when you are already in the RED zone and almost crash into something, should start beeping way sooner.
Best honest review EVER! I really enjoyed it and giggled quite a few times!! Editing was on point! My car has the same locking system, irritates the crap out of me lol!
Great review mate. I don't know about anyone else but the advent of leasing has meant that proper car ownership has gone out of the window for a lot of people. Conversely this has meant that if you're sensible and don't care about having the latest model, you can pick up one of these for a good price and genuinely love to own one for years. Looking at getting one of these even though I can easily afford the new model, because it just simply isn't worth £20k more. Can't wait to get one.
@@6TWO1 agree, leases are garbage and gambling to much on the market. I want to own what I buy. Just picked up a white pearl x5, absolutely love it. Gives me confidence that it’s equipped with the n55, I’ve researched the potential issues and paid to have them avoided. Should be a blissful ownership, these things are something else to experience daily. Love it.
Just wondered is there a reason you didn’t go for a hybrid one because the road tax on them is low and if you plan to keep it long time it would be better because they are sadly cracking down on the diesels
What I do with my keys is keep my car key separate from my other keys, as I hate things in my pocket too. I leave the BMW key in my pocket and put the rest of the keys in the center console until I get home. When I get home, I put them both on the same hook. This way I have the key in my pocket so I have no problem opening stuff, but I don't have the feeling of having a bunch of keys in my pocket.
Have the same car and a lot of things you complain about was actually optional! Your steering wheel changing positions , because you accidentally pressing the seat set button ! Door can be program on all doors unlocked option ! This car got lots of issues that you didn’t cover lol hope you don’t have them that’s why lol Def need a lip in the front ! 😎👍

You absolutely nailed the keyless start thing Adam - who would want to keep their keys in their pocket whilst driving and have them dig into your leg/waist!? Might as well stick it in the barrel, you can't misplace it as easily then either.
You probably don’t want the keys in your pocket because your trousers look sprayed on 👍
@@ulovemymum2963 actually it's because I have a bucket seat so anything in my pockets is pressed against my leg... But you do you 👍
Brilliant review.
Trust BMW rewarded you well?lol.
I don't know but I have seen the Locke, and ever since then I wanted the x5 2014!!!
This must be newer than 2014 since it has the digital cockpit feature.
I'd love a budget car honest review series
Great video man, honest video which is good! Locking system.. get Carly and you can change that looking system to not lock once you drive away, might be able to change how the boot works too!
Oh sweet! I actually have one just forgot my log in 😂
@@6TWO1 I thought so... because you did a video on it with the m3 😂
all the annoying things you can sort them by coding + you can activate some tweaks like mirrors to fold when lock the car. no delay on opening and closing the boot, unlock all doors, not just driver`s door, etc.
Search bimmercode application on iOS or Android, is a paid application for 25 quid, and another 25quid a bluetooth adapter for OBD reader. All the adapters that are compatible are shown in the application, which is free to download. you have also a demo of what you can do on your car.
If need any help, hit me up :D
08:10 You can install latest maps, 2021 full europe. you just need an FSC code for your map version, example, europe next/route/premium. 10 quid for the code, just put the map on a usb, plug the usb, type in the code you buy from ebay and wait 30-45 minutes to update the maps. you can also drive the car and stop it and it will resume next time you starting.
08:30 - headup display
09.07 - bimmercode = disable easy entry/exit
The door locks are configurable. There's a padded compartment in the dashboard for your keys, if you want to use it for that. Your satvav will update automatically if you pay for the data connection. The wheel and heads-up display settings are associated with the particular key you're using. Read your manual, dude.
The hold to close the trunk is a safety feature
Hey Adam what sort of MPG & range do you get on long journeys? Mine is getting around 34-38mpg on long motorway journeys.
Brakes and discs aren't expensive. I use ceramic brake pads which is great in preventing brake dust
Can't beat a BMW 👌
Completely agree with doing the wheels black will look alot better god knows why the alloys do that
Best honest review EVER! I really enjoyed it and giggled quite a few times!! Editing was on point!
My car has the same locking system, irritates the crap out of me lol!
My 2016 X5 doesn’t have that changeable digital gauge cluster ... is that an option or something ?
Imagine that locking system on the f series where the ONLY unlock button is centered on the dash….
I never lease cars. I don’t like being told I have to do certain mileage etc. Too restrictive
Love it.
the best review I've seen ever. thanks mate! :)
Should have mentioned the most important part - the engine.
Did you like your own comment lol
I have a 2018 X5 E40 Xdrive ... I used about three whole days to learn me all the buttons and combos.. try it.. it will solve some of this
Just wondered is there a reason you didn’t go for a hybrid one because the road tax on them is low and if you plan to keep it long time it would be better because they are sadly cracking down on the diesels
Doesn't the X5 go through tyres like other cars fill screen wash. Mine did
Have you still got the X5 ?? Did you make any mods to it ?? How does it look now if you still have it and what’s ya thoughts after all this time ??
I guess you have to hold the button down when closing as a safety feature - there could be something or someone in the way
Great video mate. Cane across this video as I am on the train to go and buy one. This video has put me at ease even more. 👏🏼
This is one of my fave cars, n u almost made it become my single favorite lol...hilarious and brilliant video mate!
Go into the iDrive and you can customise the locking options……simple
We're looking at X5's for my wife - this solidified our choice and looking to pick up a good used 2016 xDrive35i
Great video as always mate I feel a bit of a Jay emm infuelnce from thi one,, savage x5 love it bro
BMW produce map updates at least once a year and sometimes 4 times a year. Do a search online.
There's a key slot in the front of the cup holder
At long last, a visceral video. Paint the grille black, press M and a number on your seat to save all your settings
I'd like to buy a 50d version of the F15.
Does anyone have experience of one with 100k+ mileage on the clock?
Thinking of buying a M50D, whats the X5 it like for towing
It isn’t keyless you have to put it into an ignition switch like a key than press to start
No you don’t, what are you on about?
Have the same car and a lot of things you complain about was actually optional! Your steering wheel changing positions , because you accidentally pressing the seat set button ! Door can be program on all doors unlocked option ! This car got lots of issues that you didn’t cover lol hope you don’t have them that’s why lol
Def need a lip in the front ! 😎👍
Is this the 20e? I’m wondering how you got the virtual cockpit
Carn't you use the icarly programmer to turn the auto lock off ?
BMW X service are the only models where stock rims look hot.
Very good Review! I want to buy bmw x5 or xc90? I like the design if XC90 but the engine in x5 30d is just better.. I don't know what to buy..
Thanks for the video, current daily is a 2018 420i GC and seriously thinking of trading in for a 2018 X5 35i. This F15 has proven reliable enough (as per the internet) to take the dive. Problem is can't seem to find one with the M sport package, really like that steering wheel
