You REALLY Should Get a Rower Seat Pad...

- Thanks for checking out the video! In this video, I check out some seat pads sent to me courtesy of 2k Fit.
Do you NEED a seat pad to be successful with rowing? Definitely not. However, seat pads are honestly one of the simplest ways to make your rowing more comfortable and actually help you row with better technique due to seat elevation! There really aren't any drawbacks, and I make my case for this in the video! I hope you enjoy.

Hey (Training Tall) I would like to thank you for your videos. Recently my rowing coach has used your video on how to row and recommended them to the team, and they have very much helped out.
Thank you once again,
and have a nice day!
I bought the 2K Fit Rowing Machine Seat Cushion (Model 2) for my Concept 2 Rowing Machine on your recommendation. Thank you!! It makes a HUGE improvement in comfort and a noticeable increase in the quality of my workout.
Dude, hello from Ireland, thanks for all the erg video advice, just started getting into the erg a month ago and I'm loving it at age 41! I'm already addicted to how good it feels..after the workouts that is...when the pain stops...thank you!
Thanks for the info! I just received a Model 1 for my C2 Rowerg and looking forward to trying it out in the next few days. I'm a 79 yo retired airline pilot that has just been rowing for a couple of years on a ShareVgo rower, and just a few months on my C2 Rowerg. I appreciate your videos!
Thanks for your video. I always enjoy them. 👍🏿
Thanks for the info! You are awesome! Appreciate your content for us tall rowers!
Thanks Mark! Means a lot!
I thought it was just my skinny little ass having problems… I’m needing these!
Haha it’s not just you!!!
Great information and video!! Issue resolved. Thanks👍🏽
Great info! just purchased it!
I might have to get one of these. I ordered a rower (RIF6) after watching and reviewing your videos, it comes in tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up.
Excellent! Hope it goes well!
Got my first waterrower and so much further along as far as form and what to look out for thanks to this channel. Excellent content!!!
!!!! When I say you need I MEAN YOU NEED THIS. I use 2K fit large ones on Amazon.
Glad you like it so much!!
I have the model 2 version of the seat pad and it has been a great buy - especially since I row 8k up to HM, but weekly row 27k in 3 sessions.
Just ordered mine. The hardest part of rowing 30 minutes+is the butt pain! Hoping this helps
Nice!! This is going to help a ton!
Thank you. Low back issues here.
I got the C2 seat pad - it works great. I can go one hour no problem.
I like the custom molded silicone cover from vapor fitness.
I’m a sucker for whatever Austin recommends. Anything to help the rowing experience be better. I just bought the seat cushion using the link. Thanks, bro!
I currently use a hornet water sports thin pad and cycling shorts. Recently did a 100k - they work well together (so long as you get cycling shorts with a wide pad and that aren’t too tight) but I still have to stand for a minute after 90 mins or so. Maybe the thick pad here would help? Plus I’d love your view on the Citius Remex. Thanks for all the videos!
Hi , have you tested the LIT rower yet with resistance training too? we are looking at the ergatta but this one is interesting with the new apps out there.
I use a 3/4 inch pad I cut from a foam dairy stall mat and I am happy with it on the C2. For some reason I need a pad for the erg, but not on the water.
Nice!! That’s great Mark! Honestly I feel the same!
I have been reading reviews on the Concept2 site of the Endurerow seat, all very positive. Any opinion or review available?
Hi - wondering if you also tried the 2K Fit Model 3 cushion. It looks like it is between the Model 1 and 3. Wondering if the foam is better than denser gel of the Model 3 cushion. Thank you!
The Concept2 seat pad works great for me.
Nice I’m glad!!
Its so true
Hi Austin! I have long femurs and a short torso, so having those extra few inches of seat height is enormously helpful at the catch.
I find it harder to keep my heels down at the finish, however. The C2 rowerg does not allow us to adjust the angle of the footplates. For me, that fixed angle is a bit too steep, especially when I raise my booty a few inches with a butt pad. I can keep my toes connected at the finish, but my heels lift.
Do you have any suggestions for how to address this? I feel like I can either be in a proper position at the catch or maintain connection at the finish, but not both at the same time.
In case it helps, I've been rowing for 27 years.
I use padded rowing shorts + a JLracing pad.
Wouldn't survive without it.
I find bibless cycling shorts are great and get thrown in the wash as usual... if you have Decathlon sports stores where you are then they would be a great choice - i had some DeSoto shorts anyway from cycling which are pricey but great.
I've got the medium one, its ok but i find the more you use itthe less it works (6mnths use). I still use it and recommend though.
I’m sure it has its wear & tear, as any seat pad would, I think!
One word why i needed one for long hauls lol : hemorrhoids
Lmao well at least the solution is out there!!
For beginner. What do you recommend. Waterrower or Concept 2 ?
Sure, if you’re infirm or restricted in some way with flexibility, a seat pad makes sense otherwise you have a technique issue somewhere like not sitting up on your butt correctly or poor core leading to slumping on the finish . Speaking from my perspective, the more time you spend on the ergo the butt discomfort is negligible and only noticeable on 60min or longer pieces. Certainly wouldn’t use on high rate sprints 😎
Definitely not high sprints for sure! I think these seat pads help the most for overweight individuals using rowing for weight loss and general fitness - which is most of the rowing machine-owning population!
I was so happy to see you use the chunky seat pad successfully on the waterrower, as most seats for Concept rowers are much too big. I've been looking for a pad to give me a bit of extra hight for a better reach, but 2k seem to only be available in the US. Import costs to the UK would be stupid. The official waterrower seat is only 2cm thick, so I haven't bothered with it - looks like the butt shuffling will continue 😩
Ahhh shoot!! I’m sorry to hear that :/
@@trainingtall Nevermind. At least I know the brand name now (never heard of them before), so I'll keep an eye out for them if they expand to the UK.
2cm makes a surprisingly big difference. Much more than that will change your balance and take some getting used to.
Purchasing direct from Amazon US to Ireland incl taxes is ~$50.
Think I'm up for that.
Thanks for great reviews - recently moved from 5k daily workouts to 10km so body could do with any bit of assistance.
The problem is memory foam quite quickly suffers from denting that you Cannot get out, so would probably be good for a short time but not long term.
Will the model 2 work on a rif 6 rower seat with raised seat back ?
Is it allowed to use in competitions?
Helpful advice! I recently got my hands on a second-hand Concept 2 rowing machine. I’m on the lookout for a handy accessory or trick that can help me keep the rowing machine’s chain in good condition. Any recommendations from you all?
you shouldn't need to do much. Just a light wipe with mineral oil or '3 in 1' oil every once in a while, using a piece of low-lint shoprag.
i have a hydro, and my butt gets very sore, i started using a folded towel but it doesnt help much
I’m an old guy that rows 20k on a concept2 five or six days per week.
I use both the thin pad and Y2K together, shimmy a lot and still need to get up after about 15k to get the numbness out of my butt lol.
Highly recommend pads.
Very nice man!! Keep up the great work!
The pads make a big difference? Mine comes in on March 2nd.I better order them.
I noticed every 2k fit seat pad says "for Concept 2 rower" I have a Nordic Track RW900, It should work just fine, right?
I have one of the gel ones. ***love it*** No more chapped butt! Woot!
Hey Austin! Hopefully you see this. I’m wondering if you could assist. I’m fairly new to rowing and LOVING it! For someone who dislikes most strength training, but whose knees won’t tolerate running anymore, this is the best workout! I’m doing all my rowing at the gym on the C2 (saving up for my own), but I’m struggling with one thing. I have the opposite problem you do with height. I’m short (5’4”, and small feet). My torso can’t hinge to 11o’clock in the catch because I can’t clear my knees without lifting most of my foot. obviously this slows my drive. Do you think the taller seat pad would help with that? Or maybe another solution? I’m starting slow to perfect my form, but struggling with this.
many people have their feet set a tad too high on the C2. If you adjust the foot things to bring your heels a bit closer to the floor, you'll likely notice some immediate improvement. The pads help a bit with that also, essentially raising you up a little bit relative to the feet. When feet are too high, the knees and thighs get in the way of optimal leg usage.
Why not take a thick towel--which you can wash every few days and dry out between rows--and fold and use as a seat pad...especially if the model 2 (thick one) is going to absorb ass sweat, as you so articulately described??
Quote of the day, "Soak up all that juicy butt sweat." Love it! And thanks for the info on pads.
Most of the seat pads I've seen seem to be designed to fit the Concept2. Are you aware of any seat pads that will fit the Aviron? The raised part in the back of the seat seems like it would make it difficult to find a seat pad that will fit.
I know what you mean… I’ll talk to the developers and see if maybe they’ll make a solution!
Why, in the video and in the comments is the obvious not stated: If Concept 2 equipped the unit with a properly designed seat a seat pad would not be necessary.
IMO, not necessary, but can add some comfort for long distances. Warning: if you do, you will be (softly) made fun of if you row on a team!
Good warning here haha! And yeah, like I said in the description, definitely not necessary!
I have a 2K Fit seat cushion that saves my ass from splitting in half
Same here!!! We are basically twins.
I’m dying at this 😂
It looks like you are about running out of rail on concept2.
Im 6'9" tall... Will it work for me? Or will I need to order the longer rail?
Go for the extended rail. I practically hit it at 6’8
I just got a rower today I purchased it for highly intense cardio because I’m coming from cycling. I used it today and no matter how hard I went I couldn’t even get my heart rate above 130. Is this normal or should I just choose another machine
Is it a c2? if so, you probably need to adjust the drag factor, to around 130. And you should watch his vids on rowing form. But if you do some sprints, you should be able to get the heart rate above 130 with no problem.
I get a sore right in the crack of my ass but I figure if I keep rowing it will toughen up, 😂😂😂!
Haha you aren’t wrong 😂
The Concept 2 seat pads are not much help. I will try the 2K Fits pads.
Yeah I’ve really enjoyed these pads
Seats on the boat aren't comfortable, so it might be best to just get used to it.
The seats in boats are a lot different, though
I bought the thicker one expecting to ease the pain I feel on the nerves under my butt chicks and I had to return it. It is WAY too overwhelming and actually worsens the problem. I have a C2.
Oh no kidding? I’m sorry to hear that :(
My ergatta is really starting to hurt my butt.
3:19
Oh…Snowflake….does your butt hurt?
After 45 minutes! Yes! It does!
I picked up a Vapor Fitness Silicone pad. Slips over the Concept 2 seat, easily cleaned, not a butt sweat sponge, really comfortable, and it’s black so it blends into the color of my rower. Perfect.
Now do it!
Are you still eating a vegan diet mate?
Yup! 5 years this month!
I am a bit pissed because i think you are doing a product placement here - you should declare this. This product is a bag of ~~~~ ! Its unstable and you lose power. No ways have you honestly reviewed this. You have lost all credibility as far as i am concerned. Really dissapointing mate.,😡
