I made a video a while ago explaining the basics of this pedal, this is the updated version. My Instagram: / _harryvincent_ My Band's Channel: / @squarewave9531
Another great feature - You can connect your phone or drum machine in the 'Aux in' to play beats and while recording a guitar/bass loop you record the beat as well. So you do not have to stick to the stock rhythms.
Quick tip, after you record yourself for the first time it will playback and starts to record again which can be frustrating. This is the default mode, and it's more of a showcase mode. What I like and many other people like is after you record your first entry playback and don't record right away a new layer only when you tap the pedal again then tap to stop. So to change the mode you simply unplug the amp cable so the looper switches off and then hold the TAP TEMPO button and plug right back the amp cable. Then switch to the other mode by pressing the UP/DOWN button. Plug back and done. Now, you will add the extra layer only if you press the left button. Keep Rocking.
thank you for a video about this confusing looper with a clear tutorial! I've watched a lot of tutorials on the boss rc-30 and this is one of my favorites so far. Love the beats you came up with on your guitar as well :)
Great tutorial Harry! It’s a great to see a young and upcoming musician teaching the basics whilst also learning as you go. You’re a credit to to the youngsters of today. Keep up your tutorials and be an ambassador for all young people.
You sir, are an absolute King. Well explained and very useful content. Thank you. And thanks again. I don't think I can thank you enough. Also as some people have already pointed out, you play some lovely tunes, mate. Cheers!
This video has helped me a lot. Reignited my interest in both playing my guitar and my Boss RC30. Your video is so much more informative and concise than the poxy manual. Thanks.
Thank you so much for this video. I’ve had my Boss Rc-30 for awhile and just couldn’t get my head around how it worked. This helped lot to understand the functions and the timing. For me I had timing issues, it you could see that as soon as you clicked down it started recording, I was always a bit slow doing that so it never sinned in to how I want Ed it to play and ended up feeling frustrated. Thanks for helping me sort that out and I’ll be practicing more to copy how you used the pedal. Nice one! 👍🏻
Thank you Harry... I own the BOSS RC- 1, 2, 3, 5 AND RC-20XL. All are similar in ideas but vary differentially in function. Let's face it, we don't like reading directions. Your video was a huge help getting me up to speed quickly on my new RC-30. Thanks!
A fine demo to get things started! You've helped make UA-cam the user-friendly manual it should be. I look forward to other videos on this looper, if they're coming.
Hi. Indeed this is a much better video and I did enjoy it. For those that want it you can switch the start pedal so that when you hit it a second time after your first loop recording it goes straight to play only. And then you just press it again to over dub. Hope that helps. Keep up the good work
Great video! Most of the ones I've seen weren't as thorough in the process, especially with the second channel. Thats the one thing I hadn't figured out yet, so thanks for that! The steepest learning curve for me was being exactly on time regarding starting and ending the loop.
No one under the age of 65 should own that carpet - and even then, only if it’s been inherited :-) Have you noticed it comes with inbuilt stains of overly strong tea that your granny has spilled?
thank you thank you THANK YOU. i am a little gear phobic and this kind of step by step (stepping on by stepping on) is ESSENTIAL for my learning. the manual is virtually useless.
Someone else's tutorial showed holding the tap tempo button for 3 sec to access the 3 different ways of getting the thing to start recording. no is normal..by tapping the left pedal............AU is when you start playing......Ct gives you a 1 bar count in with the drum track. No other video I've seen shows this feature and it is VERY handy ! You're welcome.................
Very informative ... thank you for posting. The one very important feature that was left out was getting your Loops to sound in time! For perfect timing, you hold down the "tap tempo" button, which allows you to set the recording Mode. You will then see the flashing display of 3 modes, Normal, Automatic, and Counting. The Counting mode is used the most and is the most accurate for precise timing, followed by Normal, which requires a good ear and a good technical understanding. Perhaps there is a detailed explanation in the manual. Remember that Timing is of the utmost importance. I hope this is of some help ... thank you.
So helpful, thank you!! I don't think you should delete your other video with SOOO many plays...maybe just edit the pinned/top comment in the Comment section so new people find this one (if they don't check the dialogue box under the video)
No problem and thanks, yeh I'll leave them both up for a while and that's a good idea. If this version starts to get more views than the other then I will delete it but I'll leave them both for the moment. :) thanks again.
Oh. And your playing has evolved and improved by quantum leap!!! Incredible what practice does for ones performance abilities!!! Keep sharing your progress and creativity!!

Thank you so much for this video! Buying as a surprise gift and have no idea about any of this so it has really helped me decide what one to get. Anything else (wires etc) I should buy/make sure we have alongside this? Thanks!
As long as the person has a two guitar cables you will be good. It can be powered by batteries though I would recommend getting a 9v power supply (make sure its rated for at least 195mA)
Hi! Both your videos are great!! 🙌 Is there quick a way to switch between a loop on channel 1 to a loop on channel 2 without an awkward stop and start? So to make it a nice smooth transition? Any advice would be great!
Hi Harry, thanks for the video it has really helped me. I have a Line 6 micro spider amp which sounds a bit tinny. What amp do you use in your video? Many Thanks again, Paul.
thanks - Me no read so good LOL. the video is excellent seriously thank you. When you get a chance can you explain the inputs and out puts a bit more in detail for us.
Haha thanks, honestly they're fairly clear on the back, there's a mic in XLR, a stereo in and stereo out, aux in, footswitch in and a usb input which I have never used yet. If you google image it, it will show you the back panel :)
Hi Harry, thanks for this video! Is there a way to clear the loop in either track 1 or track 2 while it's playing? Or is the only way to clear pressing the delete button twice? I'd like to be able to record a backing track, then record a solo, then while the backing track is playing, delete that solo and record a different solo.
Great video. I'm looking for a pedal that can footswitch between two different channels/loops while still being in sync so you can play a song with a different sounding verse and chorus. Can this pedal do that?
great video man! due to get my pedal this week so your video will be a big help when i get confused with the pedal! i have heard that instead of using a guitar amp to jam i can just plug powered studio monitors into the rc30 as these have a built in preamp! is this true and have you tried this yourself?
Jamie elliot hey, I'm not 100% sure but I don't think you could power passive studio monitors with it as, whilst it does have a preamp, it doesn't have a power amp. You might be thinking of phantom power which can be used to power certain types of microphone. It does have that. Hope that helps!
@@harryvincent i was thinking active studio monitors as do have a pair of those! didn't know the pedal has phantom power nice one! guess that means i could plug in my condensor mic for acoustic recordings! i have just watched your older video too and also bookmarked it! looking forwards to getting the pedal now as a sole guitar player i can now be a one man band lol
I have noticed that when you double tap the right pedal, both channel stopped, but when you tapped the left pedal again, only the selected channel was playing, and you had to hold the right pedal to switch channel and tap the left to turn the other channel on again. Is there a way to turn on both channel at the same time, without having to switch and manually turn them on? Thanks in advance, this is a great tutorial! And very awesome demo too, I can listen to it all day :D
Are you able to plug in an actual bass in one of the input channels, and then still have your guitar through the other? I'm really debating on purchasing this pedal, the boss rc-3 just doesn't seem like a reasonable buy; mostly because of the features you can get out of the rc-30 for just $20 more for a used one on ebay. Anyways, thanks in advance!
reallybadgas you can't have different pedals plugged into each channel but you can switch the cable to another instrument or buy a cheap switch pedal to switch instruments.
If you only knew how grateful I am for this! Thanks so much! A couple of questions... If I have recorded a couple of passes on one track and I make a mistake, how do I go over, just, that pass? Also, how long of a phrase can be recorded? Lastly, how many layers can be recorded on each track? Thanks!
+Christina Frith if you make a mistake you can hold the left footswitch for 2 seconds and it will undo the last pass but you have to be fairly quick about it. And the number of layers is pretty much endless as far as I know, I have never run out of memory.
Thanks for all the comments, about the video and about my playing. The main loop towards the end is from one of my bands songs, feel free to give it a listen :) ua-cam.com/video/bvLTocKKpDI/v-deo.html
Not many simplifyed tutorials of this unit. Most people go right in the the professional set up. Start rambling about tecnial jargon . Some people are at the beginning. Nice one mate
Is there a way to make both tracks start playing again at the same time after double tapping the right pedal? Or is it always going to be one or the other?
Great video, I'm wondering how you delete a channel, or if you can do this. If you can, could you start recording on the empty channel while the previously recorded loop is still going?
Hi! Just wondering if you can tell me How do you record and play a solo over a rhythm without it looping the solo ? I record a rhythm loop try to record a solo over it but it loops it.. does the original loop have to just as long ?
Just switch to the other mode where it's only playback until you want to record/overdub again. Just un-plug the amp cable so the looper switches off and then hold the Tap Tempo button as you plug the amp cable back in. Then switch to the other mode by pressing the UP/DOWN button. Plug back in and done. So now you don't have to record right away but whenever you want to.
I have one, and my biggest gripe is that they made that top panel that reflective pink-red with white lettering. Hard to read at the best of times, much less in a stage environment... I guess I should just use it enough to memorize what everything is...
Hi again Harry, i am getting along nicely now with this pedal but wondering, can i connect a multi effects guitar pedal to the RC 30? do you know? thinking rather than just buying lots of separate pedals i may as well go for a multi pedal for home use
you didn't mention his to delete things with one of the pedals on the 20xl, you just hold down the right pedal. i believe it's the same with the 300. i have both
great video again m8 , cheers for that............just one question, how do i get rid of a loop thats not saved, ive tried and tried to get rid of one in bank 1 without the dot, but as soon as i turn it on it starts playing
yeah i couldnt get it to delete no matter how many times i pressed it ( as i said, it wasnt saved to begin with ) so all i did in the end was go up a channel then back down and it was gone
On my RC-30, the playback volume is ridiculously high compared to the thru signal, so that I must keep my volume sliders at about the second hash-mark; if I move them even slightly from their ideal position, the playback volume becomes radically high or radically low. In your first video you had the sliders set very low, but in this one it seems they are set higher, but still under halfway. Do you know of a solution to this problem? I looked thru the manual to see if maybe there was a master-volume knob somewhere, but cannot find any such thing. What I want to do is dramatically reduce the playback volume, so the I can have more dynamic range in my sliders. Thanks!!
It should be that the centre dash is unity and you can make it louder or quieter by moving it above or below that. That’s strange that it’s not doing that. If both sliders do it then it can’t be a dodgy slider. Maybe there’s some deeper setting that changes the output gain? If not I’m not too sure, sorry.
Hi, have a question, I am new to all this, your first video led me to this one and I am wondering with adding a mic for vocals and loops does it all have to go through a p. A system as its only for use in my private space to practice, as I have wanted to buy rc30 for a few years, just to progress, and I have an amp that has a mic and guitar imput, not good with all tech stuff and learning Self taught guitar a few years, at 50 year old brain plays mind games, hope I can get some feedback and I looked at this for few years your video made it easy to at least have a go at it cheers,
Hi Clifford, you can plug a mic and guitar into the pedal and take one cable out to the amp, then you can loop both. If you only want to loop the guitar then you can send the mic to the mic input of the amp and the guitar through the pedal. Hope that helps :)
@@harryvincent thanks for reply, so do I not need to have 2 imputs one for the pedal and one for the guitar,on the amp the one I have, it's portable, prob would get buskers using it as go's with battery's as well, or is there a t peice two way connector that can be used for two leads into 1 imput, then I mic it up, my amp only has 1 imput and 1 mic cheers, hope this makes sense lol, and apreciate you getting back to me ASAP. 😉
The guitar is sent through the pedal so your loop and guitar are mixed in the pedal to one output. Your mic can be mixed in the pedal aswell or you can plug it into your amp. Either should work
Hmm...I was with you at first but you lost me by the end. I’m needing to use mine to record vocals with harmonies. Would love to see a clear, simple demo of how to do that, without too many extras thrown in that are confusing to a brand new beginner. I’m guessing I’m not the only vocalist who struggles with technology!
I don’t think there’s a way to stop one and start the other at the same time, you would have to leave a bars gap. You can get an additional foot switch which lets you more quickly switch between controlling loop one and two
yes. lets say u had a track on each channel. you can stop one independently of another (ie drop out the chords and just leave the beat, then bring it back in)
Will this unit when plugged into 2 amps. Can you record and then the signal will go to ONE and and you play through the other one? The BOSS DD7 delay does this. I really need to know. it's a deal breaker thing..
Trying to connect this to my Roland spd-ax and for the life of me I can't figure out how to get the drum pad to connect to the loop. Do you know if the loop would need to go into the "foot pedal" input or just the regular ole input situation? I hope that makes sense.
So if I got it right, the effects are always applied to the entire thing and not just to the active channel? Or is there a way to use the octaver separately for a bass line, then record a chord progression without any effects and then overdub a solo with some other effect?
Another great feature - You can connect your phone or drum machine in the 'Aux in' to play beats and while recording a guitar/bass loop you record the beat as well. So you do not have to stick to the stock rhythms.
thats epic! plug phone in

Music reminds of Rad Gravity.
Yes that would work, you can either put it before or after the pedal for slightly different ways of using it 👍🏻
@@harryvincent brilliant cheers man
you didn't mention his to delete things with one of the pedals
on the 20xl, you just hold down the right pedal. i believe it's the same with the 300. i have both
great video again m8 , cheers for that............just one question, how do i get rid of a loop thats not saved, ive tried and tried to get rid of one in bank 1 without the dot, but as soon as i turn it on it starts playing
+Bung Taylor pressing the delete button twice should do it.
yeah i couldnt get it to delete no matter how many times i pressed it ( as i said, it wasnt saved to begin with ) so all i did in the end was go up a channel then back down and it was gone
Ah well as long as it's sorted :)
I don't understand how the left pedal changes from being a record button to being a playback button, at 7:00
On my RC-30, the playback volume is ridiculously high compared to the thru signal, so that I must keep my volume sliders at about the second hash-mark; if I move them even slightly from their ideal position, the playback volume becomes radically high or radically low.
Feel your pain. My brain gets overwhelmed quickly I have to keep starting again
Thanks
How in a performance setting can you record 2 tracks and bring them in, so for chorus and verse?
I don’t think there’s a way to stop one and start the other at the same time, you would have to leave a bars gap. You can get an additional foot switch which lets you more quickly switch between controlling loop one and two
hi mate, great video, really helpful. I was just wondering, would it be possible to use this looper with a keyboard? Cheers
+JJS Gaymes yep, works exactly the same, it actually has a stereo in and out aswell
Hi there, quick question can you when playing stop the loop and then restart it ! So if you come to a bridge in a tune, then restart!? Cheers
yes. lets say u had a track on each channel. you can stop one independently of another (ie drop out the chords and just leave the beat, then bring it back in)
Will this unit when plugged into 2 amps. Can you record and then the signal will go to ONE and and you play through the other one? The BOSS DD7 delay does this. I really need to know. it's a deal breaker thing..
Can you mute a loop without deleting it? For example, muting a loop to solo over silence and unmuting the loop to bring everything back?
Deeken Wheeler yep you can stop and start loops without deleting them
Can you connect it to a power source whilst having alkaline batteries inside? Will it cause a leakage?
Trying to connect this to my Roland spd-ax and for the life of me I can't figure out how to get the drum pad to connect to the loop. Do you know if the loop would need to go into the "foot pedal" input or just the regular ole input situation? I hope that makes sense.
Megan Coleman if the pad plays samples directly to an output then it should just go in the regular input, hope that helps
Megan Coleman did this work?
So if I got it right, the effects are always applied to the entire thing and not just to the active channel? Or is there a way to use the octaver separately for a bass line, then record a chord progression without any effects and then overdub a solo with some other effect?
Wondering the same thing, will the fx's murder your chord progressions?
When you only need it for solos.
Yep, sadly the effects are always applied to everything :(
Can you use the right pad to cycle pre recordings?
Great video! I had one more question for you but how long can you record for on each track?
Mayhemic it’s something ridiculously long, I have never hit the limit
@@harryvincent dude sweet thanks! Thats great 😊 also I subbed for this spectacular video. Better late than never am I right?
The loop is about 3 hours long fyi ;) so ye, its something ridiculously long
@@thomusica dope thanks mah dude got mine over the weekend and loving it!
Mayhemic Awesomee!! Im getting mine tomorrow, really excited :))
How do you get the audio out, my uncle is letting me use for some time please help.
If you're using 2 channels and u stop it both, how do you play both of them at the same time
