      Plus, as bad as getting kicked by a horse can be it’s better than getting slammed into the Texas countryside at hundreds of miles per hour when the computer controlled re-entry system on the ‘Phallus One’ space capsule fails… plus getting to give a magnificent horse a good scratch and rub is much more satisfying and the horse enjoys it too.

    As a dink let me tell you this stuff is hard to learn. If you do it 24/7 it is a lot easier. You are the only one that presents a real lesson, and they are good lessons too. When you present the lesson you present it differently each time. That is the mark of a good teacher. We dinks have to have someone to save us, that's you.

    Lovely horse. He likes to look around. I like horses who still have their own minds, not braindead robots who've been subjected to hundreds of repetitive flexing/tight circles/disengaging hindquarters or whatever some people do to try and make a horse never think for himself. If I'm riding outside and there's some problem like a snake (I'm Australian), boggy ground or other danger, I sure want a horse who will let me know, and not think he's going to be punished for being aware of his surroundings.

    Hi Pat,..awesome videos!..
    My father was a lover /trainer of horses/cattle in Mexico(you remind me of him) all his life..but he NEVER wanted us to have anything to do with horses ,for fear of us getting injured (my grandfather had a serious insident with his horse ,that ultimately died from those injuries)..
    Anyways-i would love to attend your basic essentials of riding..(horsemanship 101 😊)..
    Where are you located?..
    I live in Bakersfield,California.
    Thank you so much!...great videos 👍

    Perfect timing ( chuckle chuckle) on sharing this video. I get to have a weekly ride on a friends mare and do some schooling. She is well trained, so she is teaching me. Last 2 rides were with your bit and we both love it. I picked out quite a few things I have been doing wrong. One being that I was using the wrong rein when asking for the front end to move over. Should I be using spurs , since she was trained with them?

    • @PatnDebPuckett
      @PatnDebPuckett 3 роки тому +2

      Yes.

    • @johanna7096
      @johanna7096 2 роки тому +1

      If you can sit her well than you can ride with spurs :) if you would kick her every step unintentionally then no :)

  • @rodneyparden6728
    @rodneyparden6728 2 роки тому +1

    On the left turn. You are using the right rein to shift the horses weight back. Are you particular about the horses footfall when asking? If so what is the correct footfall you are looking for?

    • @PatnDebPuckett
      @PatnDebPuckett 2 роки тому +1

      For a left turn: as the left front leaves the ground, you use the right rein. The bend in the neck and the power in the right hind make a clean turn.

    Do you find that older horses that are not ridden much, you have to go back and work on basics with them? Is that fairly common?

    • @gregs8736
      @gregs8736 2 роки тому +1

      Depends on the horse. I had a well broke Morgan mare that I didn't use when she was in foal and was nursing her foal. I had some company over, caught her out of the pasture and rode her bareback in a halter when she wasn't ridden for over a year, and it was just as though she had done a twenty mile ride the day before. No warmup whatsoever. Most horses though would need a refresher when they are not ridden much.
