I recently acquired the K6XS and love it!! I’ve wanted a light weight pocket carry revolver for a while so when Kimber came out with the 6 shot option it was a no brainer to get it in lieu of the Smith or Ruger 5 shot options. I only have 124 rounds through it and 24 of those were plus p rounds and it handles everything great. The trigger is amazing. I am very happy with it!!!
Thanks for the report! I think the new SIG XTEN Comp is going to have to be my next purchase but I still have my eye on the Kimber, appreciate you weighing in, enjoy your K6XS
The Ruger LCR is known to have one of the best trigger systems out there and extremely light in overall weight. It was my first CCW in .38Spl. Carried it backwards behind my hip and nothing to see if I bent over in the store wearing a camisole. Considering the average defensive shooting requires 3.2 rounds, I don’t see any reason to buy the Kimber or anything heavier. Thank you for sharing!
Excellent summary @melissasmess, thanks for sharing your experience. I have no complaints with the LCR other than it would be nice to have another round.
Hi belong to two sporting clubs I’m at the Range about two times a week. I have never seen a Kimber that could shoot very well. Shooters targets look like they were shooting a shotgun. Therefore, I don’t think this gun is going to be any better I have read about test and seen results in magazines and it shoots like a shotgun too. They look pretty what they shoot like shit
I own a Kimber K6XS along with a Taurus 856 Ultra Lite, and a S&W J frame airweight model. I like revolvers and semi's. The Taurus 856 is a good value for a person who wants a concealed carry and light weight snubby who does not shoot a lot at the range. Mine was under $300. The S&W J frame airweight is a proven snubby. It has been around for a long time and it's really small. They tend to cost around $500-$600. I'm glad Kimber developed a light weight snub .38. I like how the hammer is fully internal and the Hogue grips that come standard allow for a nice grip that really helps control recoil. Mine was around $640 out the door. The Kimber has the best trigger out of the three. It does not stack yet shots can be staged. I happen to like all three for different reasons Each has their own merits. This type of thing tends to be very subjective as opinions and experiences can vary widely. The revamped Smith & Wesson Ultimate Carry J frame looks like a really nice conceal carry revolver. The pinned front sight and dovetailed rear sight are long overdue and the G10 grips look nice. I like how the ejector rod is now shrouded and they regulated the sights. They have a current MSRP of around 750 bucks.
I Love the look and practicality of the small light revolvers. A South African Doctor friend of ours always carried a SW 38 everywhere he went. Not too many Kimbers where I live however it appears to me the quality is very high. I do like the SW triggers though. Cheers Dave 🇺🇸 🇳🇿
I purchased one of these NIB for $580 out the door and it is an awesome CC revolver! So much so that im now selling all my Smith J's to buy another K6XS
My wife and I have rocked the Ruger LCR just fine w/ Speed loader. It looks more like a matter of your personal comfort. Some guys and gals need 16rds… When others only need only 5rds. At the end of the day, everyone should simply practice and be comfortable using what you have.
I paid $610 for a brand new K6XS. Absolutely love it! Plus P rounds are easy even shooting with one hand. My 642 and a speed strip round out my carry when I revolver carry.
The k6xs is a good shooter . I’ve never shot a Lcr but I have a 642 Smith . For me me it’s not a pocket gun but it’s a quality carry revolver , the Kimber. Thanks
Before dropping $1000 or so on a new Kimber, you might want to explore the Taurus 856. It is a 6 shot .38 special revolver in various barrel lengths. Prices range from low $300's to mid $400's. The upper prices are usually for the TORO model that you can put a red dot on.
Definitely the budget option, just don't know anyone with a lot of rounds through a Taurus revolver. The Ruger LCR, one of the prototypes did 10,000 rounds of +P with no issues. Hard to argue with that
@@LWRoadlionquestfitness is a legend and carry’s his 856 & 605- 5 shot .357 Taurus snubbie. He also owns more expensive revolvers. I’d check out a video from him for an unbiased review of it. I try to think about it like this. Would you trust your life to the Taurus? I’m not sure. Would I trust Kimber with my life? Yes. If it’s a range toy, totally different scenario, I would get the taurus.
Sorry. Tarus quality is shoddy. My first revolver was a Taurus. It failed on the first range outing. I think of Taurus as Nissan. They price themselves better than the competitor but fail to deliver the quality and reliability.
@@LWRoad it’s a fun pistol but the titanium cylinder and barrel can be problematic as in when shooting stout magnum loads the barrel gets torched and you’ll get some torching in the barrel/cylinder gap. It’s a .357/.38 but I hardly shoot .357 anymore because of the torching. S&W did fix the cylinder and barrel from the torching without any fuss. I do like to shoot .38 equivalents of 9mm defense ammo. Going for the magical 1,000fps number but have hand loaded subsonic loads and they are fun just because they “pop” instead of “bang”
To get 6 rounds in the LCR I switch to the LCR .327 mag for carry revolver. I just replace it with the Kimber K6XS, now I am back to a .38. I don't like shooting +P ammo out of the Kimber it has massive blast and recoil with a +P round. At the price point which the Kimber comes in you can't go wrong to purchase one, or two.
I like the 8 shot j frams 43c. Comes with xs white dot sight which is solid and with federal punch it can hang witb 38 pefformance wise, for 2 or 3 more rounds, less recoil, easier to shoot and get follow up hits with. Lighter then eveeything here too, 11.4 oz unloaded 12.3 oz loaded with 8 shots. Its a gem, i got 2 after the first one ran so well for first 2,000 rounds. Both run great 👍👍🎯🤠
Agreed! I have a 43C and like it very much for the same reasons. Most people watch too many John Wick movies and think you need magnum rounds to defend yourself. That's bull. My ultimate favorite is my Ruger LCR 8 shot 22LR filled with Federal punch. It's a smidgen over 2 ounces heavier than the 43C, but I prefer it more. Just shy of 4,000 rounds through the Ruger LCR.
