- Welcome to Launchpad - the amazing 325 square foot transforming micro-apartment built by Clei and Resource Furniture. The micro-unit was part of the groundbreaking 2013 exhibition "Making Room: New Models for Housing New Yorkers" at the Museum of the City of New York in conjunction with Citizens Housing & Planning Council (chpcny.org).

first woman I've seen to own a home like that ...and I absolutely loved this one !! Her pink couch is so cute!! from everything Ive seen this is my favorite !

I have the same bed, only not with a sofa, but with a dining table attached to it, from the same brand. Love it, in my 17.3 feet (28m2) studio apartment.
And yes, it's expensive, but less expensive then a bigger house with more space ;o)
Lots of great ideas I can use thanks. I don't understand the dish washer though, it's barely big enough to fit anything. When it's just one person it is quicker just to wash it up.
In the UK we have a lot of apartments a lot smaller then this. This would be pretty big compared with a many I have seen here.

It's such a beautiful little space, but boy the amount of work and movement to do! After a long day at work I doubt I'll have any mood to do all that :/

So, when will this going to be available in a mass produce quality so that people can actually afford to buy this.. Or, When, will the apartments going to provide this to the tenants? It will be awesome if this feature will be part of the rented apartments all throughout the states..
Достаточно интересно и прикольно, но вот большой вопрос с удобством в повседневной жизни. Банально чтобы утром сесть позавтракать и посмотреть скажем новости, нужно разложить и сложить добрую половину квартиры

The idea is cool,but that pillows of the sofa around when you ope the bed?and it seems small but is bigger than mine the kitchen is huge.

325 square foot isn't too bad, my studio in UWS was 250 square feet including the bathroom :/ Manhattan is tiny!

i hope this becomes normal in the future. With populations increasing as they are these are a great solution. They don't even need to be super small. They could fit this furniture out in houses meant for smaller families and make them into larger family homes. The possibilities are endless :)... they just need to convince certain people that they don't need as much space as they're taking up.
Even if the population decreased rather than increase it would still be amazing with it saving money and the environment. There are indeed loads to learn from the innovations coming from the designers of these humble little homes.
as a designer, the problem is, this is all more novelty and cool...at first. But lets be honest with ourselves and someone who lives in manhattan. Sure it saves space, but really people will only reconfigure these things the first month, then it becomes a burden. Not to mention, moving parts means breaking parts over time...

That goes to build quality. The high end and working class places will look about the same, but the details, like the way that bed works is what matters. If your point of reference is Ikea which is stuff made to be periodically replaced when the place is redecorated, then there is a balancing point on longevity vs cost. You start talking about $6,000 Italian folding beds, yes, they will outlast the owners.

RavenNight Imagine to keep really clean a place like that. you'll spend half of your day unpacking furniture, cleaning every corner...
And if you are old or you have mobility problems, taking the bed down every night? I used to live in a studio with only one window...a hell. I was running out of air every 30 min. Small places, no matter how good designed they are, make your life really uncomfortable.

It looks great. So, the question for me is this: Almost a year and 1/2 has gone by since this video was made. Has any of this actually been implemented for a housing development or are we still just posting dreams? It is great to have ideas like this, but I get so disappointed when there is no follow through. I hope that is not the case here. I may want to move to some congested place someday and hope something like this is already in place.
