@4ourfutureinfinity maybe the loft would make the kitchen underneath darker? There are buildings across so maybe that causes the sunlight to light in from unfortunate angle that it would darken the kitchen? Or maybe the loft would be too dark from that angle? Dunno, but I believe they thought about it because they said that they didn't want to do loft because of the Light

This is fine for a short stint, if you’re staying in the city for an internship or college course or even a halfway house or something. But not as a home. Nobody should ever need to spend their life like this.
In fact when you live in Paris usually you are always out: restaurants, bars, cafés, public parks, theaters, etc., and also you travel a lot, so you don't mind that much to have a small home.

@@70spoem In some countries that‘s normal🤷🏽♀️ I know that in Germany, you have a right for a TV and at least where I live, every prisoner has a TV in their cell.
In Paris people live outside ??? WRONG ! As a Parisian, I know for fact this is not true. We enjoy having friends at home because because the city is so expensive we can't afford it ( i speak for student and young professional). And the worst part of those tiny flats are their prices ( between 700 and 900 euro - depends on the location, and the fitting) and the tons of documents you have to give if you want to apply to one of them. Eventhough what she did is amazing, living in a flat this tiny makes you crazy.I've been there.
I agree with you Christie--been there, done with that! It is ok for a limited time when very young, you can put up with it for a while but eventually you need an improved lifestyle--a garden, fresh air, a bathtub. There is a reason there are more mental health problems in crowded cities than in communities with more space, privacy, less noise. Noise pollution, anxiety, insomnia, high blood pressure, headaches, body pains from stress, artificial lights, aggravation, irritating neighbors. Human beings need personal space for relaxation and being alone with one's thoughts for some period of time each day. Eventually in life you want to throw dinner parties, you need a dining table, space for guests, and it is nice to have a couch, a full sized bed, a desk to sit and write, another room to go into and close the door, room to dance if you want. But if a person wanted a place like this for the weekends, or to have a pied a terre for some days of the workweek then get out on the weekends, I can see holding on to a space like this. But people are being sold on the idea that micro-living is somehow progress, when it is exploitation in many cases. Landlords will carve out a closet to rent if they can get away with it--people should not be overly convinced that micro-apartments are healthy, or that there is not greed involved, look at London, people trying to rent out a storage room under their stairs as a place to live.
I’m in America... I don’t have to have a lot of space... but some where I don’t feel like I’m in a closet ... is Nice... it’s like camping. Gets old quickly.
Don’t understand why so many tiny apartment vids have comments like “oh my gosh this looks so cosy I love it” but so many people are hating on this one and finding it depressing? Honestly it’s 100x better than some other crappy places I’ve seen.
Thoughtful, functional, and artful use of space. Great job! I personally love high ceilings and utilizing the empty space above which further enhances the feeling of height and draws your attention upward.
I love this! So many clever ideas for how to utilise a tiny room.Put aside the issue of people being extorted for rentals in Paris - we're talking about a densely populated area with a lot of demand for living space. People must make their own choices about how they wish to live. Personally I just enjoy the design challenge this apartment represents. It could be useful for student accommodation, where space is competitive and a single person only needs a small space. I like the way the architect has kept the space open, by using the stacked boxes that separate the kitchen from the living/bed area. Thank you for another wonderful video.
Contrary to most comments here, I think this is a terrific apartment! There is a good sense of open space that isn't usual in tiny Parisian apartments. The usable square footage is larger than some places I've stayed. When I'm in Paris, I don't spend much time in the apartment, so this would be plenty for one person! Even for a couple who really enjoys being together 24/7. I'd buy this in a heartbeat!
I wouldn't wanna rearrange my apartment twice a day. I'd just keep the bed, use the drawer for the pillows as extra storage for something else and put a blanket over the bed during the day so that it doesn't get dirty.
Teddy 97 I would need the back support of a couch because I have neck & back problems & wouldn’t want to sit hunched up on a bed 🛏. That’s why I had a klick-klack when I lived in a tiny room. I can rearrange my room but I can’t get a new back!
Nobody lives there yet, so probably that's why. You could put dining table next to the bed, in front of the window. She sais on the wideo thta you could have a Coffee table also, but they probably leave it to the person who moves here. Why do you need a bedside table when there literally is so many shelves right next to the bed
Kitchen table I get. But I'm not a fan of a bunch of tables. I don't really care for coffee tables because I've always told my shins up. Not a big fan of bedside tables either
My dream home, in the minimalist Japanese stuff that I love so much. The housework would only take like 5 minutes a day. My cat would probably go crazy though, lol. Bravo Kirsten, so creative. I'm so glad I just found your channel, I love the videos of the different projects on it :)!

tfw all this to not drive to a grocery store for 10 min when its a 3 min walk away from you but the city and land developers refused to build a sidewalk.
My flat was 9 square meters, and 350€ a month... Rents in Paris are so high, and people can't always make such modifications I wish I could have made mine this cool :)
My mother went in her 20s (she is 57 now) and we stayed there in our way to Switzerland in the 90s.... It was beautiful. The City of Love. Full of culture and just an amazing City. My sister goes a year ago with a group of friends including her boyfriend who is French and OMGGGGG she was absolutely disgusted and so were the group. Her boyfriends parents ended up leaving Paris after living there for 35 years. Its a hell hole now. I wanted to be proposed to there when I used to think about marriage. Not now!!!!!!
When speculation takes over you end up with a real value and estimated value living on different galaxies hhhh ! This is saddening... Even more when you see that this trend ends up slowing down the sales.
***** You're doing a lot of things wrong if you're not "actually experiencing things" at home. Making one's home their favorite place to be is one of the main goals in a person's life, however much they love being outside. If there's a reason you don't like staying at home, fix it. Going out just to escape from your own reality is detrimental to doing something about it.
+xXPorcelinxxRoseXx - I live in nyc. we experience our lives outside and only sleep in our apartments. life is more interesting outside. but living in a tiny space with nothing also means you are not living because you have no books, no favorite things, no mementos, nothing that makes it your home. The apartment in the video looks slick because it is empty. when somebody actually moves in with clothes, makeup, shoes, books, coats, pots and pans etc... the place is going to look like a disaster. You cant live in a place like this for a long time and make it your home.
If you have no choice, I mean it is a great organisation with a modern look.👍 In Paris, appartments are very expensive! You optimize the space management. Moreover French are less demonstrative than american. They dont say "wonderfull" "tremendous" in every sentence 😊
I like it...I would have designed the same space differently as to maximize space as much as possible...and when you live with less its perfectly manageable and Ive been to Paris and would love to live in the heart of it... 💜 I do want her boots though 😍
@The Metalhead I think he was making more of a statement on the slavish nature of society and the thin veneer that is the matrix we are living in. But congrats on the spacious house.
She didnt say it was necessarily cool. She said this is what its like to be poor in her city. And she was trying to make the best of it. Maybe stop being a dick. It wont make yours grow any bigger.
Billys Mum Ikr I was thinking the same thing ... I just watched a couple who converted a bus into a small space home and they use their kitchen sink for both to save a lot of space.
I live in a place like this in Paris with my three year old boy. Him and I sleep in the same sized bed. Some days you wanna cry. Most day's you're grateful not to be on the streets.
I lived in Paris. And those tiny room are called "Chambre de Bonne" (housemaid's room) and they are freaking expensive for what they are. Also this one is so fancy and contemporary, they are not showing what most of the "Chambre de Bonne" are really looking. But it's a choice of people preferring living in the center of Paris, in a 10cm2 in the 7th floor without elevator, instead of living around the town in Paris District with bigger volumes and more comfort. They're not to blame..
I havent been to Paris but I was thinking exactly what you said. It would be fine if the rent is affordobale for people but places like these seem more like a way to maximize profit instead giving affordable options.
@@jessicas3359 This one is newly renovated, and, depending on the location (it looks like it's the 2nd arr? So, as central as it gets) it's probably 1000-1100 eur /month. Plus utilities. You can't get a studio of this size in central Paris for less than 800/month. The other big cities in France are more decent. You can get a normal studio (not a box) or a small one-bedroom for 500/month.
Deja Vu really? I have a friend living in a similar place in district 13; she pays 700€/month. I don’t think it’s that expensive , she lives alone. Here in Spain, Madrid or Barcelona, you pay less but you share apartment.
Médina Maëva I am one of those people, if given a choice between “a tiny place in central Paris” vs “a regular apartment on the outer edge of Paris,” I’d definitely pick the former. Cheap or expensive-I guess that would be subjective, especially on UA-cam where many of the viewers come from areas where one can rent a house the size of a gymnasium for 50 Euros or US$ 55/mo. To them, an apartment that costs 800 Eur should come w/ a maid and a tennis court. Of course, they can’t understand why anybody would live in a micro-apartment.
Adoro los estantes y saber que hay micro departamentos con estos estantes me fascinó. Es obvio que este tipo de departamentos pequeños es para gente que está sola .pero la idea de que todo este en su lugar y ordenado. Me agrada 😊 Como ex mucama- he limpiado casas enormes.
Don't really get the two sinks next to each other. The kitchen sink will do nicely to clean your hands as well. I would have installed a pantry or closet for clothes there instead. Obviously the bed space needed three centimeters or 1 inch extra to slide easier. Found it an excellent idea, to be able to get it out partially and then use it as a sofa.
for someone who likes to be in a small or tight room, i like it. i may sound......weird but when i work or study i like being messy and i hate working or studying in a too wide space, i'll make mess everywhere and it'll confuse me. so i personally like the idea, yeah idea.
What’s even sadder are huge spaces on fifth ave in nyc where single wealthy people live in and outside the building are homeless people sleeping in the cold 🥶
@@EM-qx3hx Paris is a beautiful city for tourists. But the reality for Parisian isn't the same. If you want to live in Paris City you have to be rich ou live in those room. Agreeing with every comment so far. This reminds me of my great grandparents first home that was a one room shack. The only difference is that they didn't have an interior designer to make it look posh.
Beautifully compact. Very rich use of the space. We didn’t see clothing storage but I am sure the minimums are the same. It needs a little green growing things to enrich the space and I pray it has a windows for natural light. Nicely done. I could live there. 💐
Yeah... these kinds of renovations aren't cheap. They're not poor. They just want to live in a city that happens to have an extremely high population density like Paris, NYC or Tokyo.
I stayed in a Parisian Airbnb in a building just like that (if not the same building - could be because the entrance looked identical). The flat we rented was at the top of the building and it used the extra space at the roof for a lofted bedroom accessed via a spiral staircase, but the main part of the flat was tiny just like this. It was very comfortable for our stay, but I can't imagine living there with two people for an extended time. As a single person, yes, but not with two.
that's manageable for 1 person. i would love it. i hate the idea of a large area, so much junk. smaller areas forces you to live off of what you need. very cozy
+lemonjuice8220 Guess alot of large home owners got cleaning assistance. So they don't have to clean themselves. Zero cleaning is less than just a little cleaning. The time they save by arranging that they use to accumulate more wealth I guess. It's all about prioritizing.
I really like Kirsten's videos. It is true that most of us in the U.S. are accustomed to having so much more space, but years ago I visited with a friend who lived in Manhattan. Her studio was not much bigger than this. Many urban areas around the world have dense populations and perhaps the trade-off of being in the city is better for them than living in the outskirts of a town or the city. I do like this studio. I understand other people would modify it.
So happy to read the other comments! It's so good to know I'm not all alone in an insane world! Other people see the HORROR too! Viva yellow vests viva!!!!

The number is wrong :) the apartment in the video is about 19 sq m... I lived in a similar one with the same size, it was actually really comforting because of its interior (it was a little bit more colorful and welcoming)... Now we live in 54 sq m flat with my husband and it is two big rooms (just the living room is as big as this apartment in this video) so 129 should be at least twice ss big as ours... :)
As truck drivers, my husband and I lived in a truck cab for just over 6 years. Using public toilets and truck stop showers for bathroom use. We kept a mini fridge for fruits and veggies and ready-to-eat foods to snack on between eating out. We slept REALLY close together on the bunk between our driving shifts or days off.
Setting aside what I find culturally comfortable. I think the use of space has been ingenious. I've seen several non-european designs that used an adult size trundle bed. One does not have to worry about falling out of bed or off a ladder. I used a trundle bed in my tiny home. The kitchen wall Solutions demonstrated another creative concept. People forget that culture teaches us what is comfortable and what is not. Cultures change. Culture often is used to judge others by. But no culture in the world has absolutely all truth or is perfect for all time. More importantly it should be appropriate for what the need is at the time and adaptive
I like it. It all depends on what's important to a person. Having had the big house, big condo, big NYC apartment, and now a van, I could definitely get with this. Less cleaning and more cash savings. I found I used very little of my home space; the bathroom, bedroom, and kitchen. Everything else was fabulous but never used. Lots of rooms looking like beautiful museums that I had to periodically dust. LOL. Because I can now do big travel living, I absolutely love tiny indoor living.
I dunno... Instead of a bathroom sink I would prefer to have my own washing machine/drier and would be ok with washing my hands after toilet in kitchen sink....
@@chowder8802 how's that gross, you're saving money on laundry by having your own washing/dryer machine. You don't need two sinks in a small apartment so the bathroom sink can go and the kitchen sink can be utilised. Logic

@Christine Taggart ?
@@GaylordBonnafous Wonderful when you are in your 20s or 30s but if you are still a barfly with no intellectual life (books, anyone?), it won't matter whether you live in Paris or Timbuktu, you will be an empty individual. And does no one miss books in these micro apartments? Maybe even a library of books?
@@Arabzene In fact I used to live in a small flat in the center of Paris while having hundreds of books... Anyway there are dozens of public libraries in Paris where you can rent books for free. Without mentioning books on the internet... People who live in large houses in rural areas don't read more than people in large cities. In fact it's quite the opposite...
@@Arabzene Plus a lot of people in Paris read in public parks, in the cafés, and most of all in the metro.

I moved out of the city to a small village, with lots and lots of space everywhere ( with 4 rottweilers who also have lots and lots of space) ... I can't say I regret my decision after seeing this video..

Poorly "designed"
You guys are crazy. Who wouldn't want a toilet in their shower!?!?
@@PurpleMangoTimeExactly - poor design. And I don't like those big flat European pillows. Not the only things that need plumping up.
It's too much in such a limited space
Even though that space is small, all the appliances are so modern I love it!
Especially the stovetop!
Maybe this is just me... But this place seems like it has a lot of "wasted space" in terms of its design...
ABsolutelly agree! So much wasted space actually for such a tiny flat
I agree. They could have did a loft space in the living room and the cabinet shorter. I think if they showed more features we could get a better feel of what could be utilized.
True

Lazy design solutions....

Hotel rooms are bigger than this. But I hear cruise ship rooms are tiny like this.

What? I was often in my room during uni
Wouldn't mind having a unit like this in a few places in the world. A different holiday every year. It's adorable.

+Christie Janvier I believe that. I've tried living in a 3 bedroom apartment with one roommate and 2 cats, it still drove me crazy.
**Christie Janvier* ~Ouais, quoi! C'est vraiment tant trop cher...et vachement trop minuscule pour le fric qu'ils veuillent gratter, t'as raison!!
I’m in America... I don’t have to have a lot of space... but some where I don’t feel like I’m in a closet ... is Nice... it’s like camping. Gets old quickly.

These videos are really depressing.

All she needs is a multi purpose table or something that folds and she could put away

What is expensive? How much per month?

Me agrada 😊
Como ex mucama- he limpiado casas enormes.
Why are people being so negative about this? This is the most beautiful 12sqm appartement i have ever seen!!

One word: claustrophobic 😳

Large space means more cleaning!

My first thought!
How depressing is this please
As truck drivers, my husband and I lived in a truck cab for just over 6 years. Using public toilets and truck stop showers for bathroom use. We kept a mini fridge for fruits and veggies and ready-to-eat foods to snack on between eating out. We slept REALLY close together on the bunk between our driving shifts or days off.
who's addicted to the foldable houses after watching this guys videos
Setting aside what I find culturally comfortable. I think the use of space has been ingenious. I've seen several non-european designs that used an adult size trundle bed. One does not have to worry about falling out of bed or off a ladder. I used a trundle bed in my tiny home. The kitchen wall Solutions demonstrated another creative concept. People forget that culture teaches us what is comfortable and what is not. Cultures change. Culture often is used to judge others by. But no culture in the world has absolutely all truth or is perfect for all time. More importantly it should be appropriate for what the need is at the time and adaptive
I love this apartament. If it was for sale, I would immediatly buy it. So lovely! So cozy! Such a great investment!
i appreciate my living space so much more now
I can't imagine living in this space during this virus outbreak!
Imagine many people in Paris live like that with 2 or 3 kids...
@@lineyh8095 By choice. Never feel bad for them.
Luxurious. The real small space are the 2 sqm apartments ive seen where all you can do is turn around in circles while standing
🤣🤣🤣
I dunno... Instead of a bathroom sink I would prefer to have my own washing machine/drier and would be ok with washing my hands after toilet in kitchen sink....
Gross
@@chowder8802 how's that gross, you're saving money on laundry by having your own washing/dryer machine. You don't need two sinks in a small apartment so the bathroom sink can go and the kitchen sink can be utilised. Logic
I AGREE!
What if you are draining\washing vegetables in the sink and then desply need a wee , you wont havs a good place to wash your hands
PinkiePurpley hand sanitizer is your friend in that case...
I love how creative and clever the design on this small apartment is and really beautiful
Very creative and use of space.
Omg I have so many questions? Live how do you change the bed covers? Were to but your personal stuff? Were is the washing machine? And no way two people can live there without killing each other!
1. Take the mattess out, change the bed covers, put it back.
2. There's closets in the walls and shelves above the bed
3. Lots of Parisians (if not most) don't own washing machines, they just pop down to the laudromat down the street.
4. Seems to be a one person appartment. The two-person bed is to allow for evening visitors I reckon.
